Since moving to the Carlingwood area Kettleman's has become a regular spot for lunch - and I'm digging it! While other mentioned the atmosphere isn't great, I actually really enjoy it. The view of Carling might be rather dull, but there's lots of seating space and windows which makes it one of my favourite places to people watch :) I'm a sandwich girl and Kettleman's does not disappoint. My favourite lunch order is the chicken salad on an onion bagel. In straight up bagelness, my favourites are all dressed, cranberry lemon and chocolate. (Obviously. It's a CHOCOLATE BAGEL!) It should be noted that they also have a delicious pizza bagel and tasty baked treats. Kettleman's also caters (would anyone judge me if I had a wedding buffet of strickly Kettleman's bagels?) and has won the "Best Bagel Award" from the Ottawa Sun for EIGHT years in a row. They're doing something right! Note: If you're into massive, fluffy bagels like the kind at Timmy's or the grocery store, readjust your expectations. It was some time ago, I decided to stop at Cadmans Montreal Bagels (2177 Carling Avenue, Ottawa). After entering the store, I lined-up to order a dozen bagels and some drinks. A female cashier came over to me saying, "I saw you noticed me." When I went to place my order she said, "Do you have a good job?" I said, "I just want to order some bagels." Next the female cashier said, "I have to ask you a few questions. I want to know who I'm talking to. You must have a good job, food here is expensive. I don't make any money doing this. I will take care of you, bring lots of money. I'm worth it! Would you like a number?" I placed my food order and paid for it. Soon my bagels and drinks were ready. Next, this cashier went over and talked to another employee, who was possibly either the manager or an assistant manager. Whatever the female cashier said to the male employee (manager) was a total lie. After the cashier handed me my order, this other male employee quickly came over to the counter towards me. Looking very angry he said, "I don't like the way you talked to my staff. Get out of here and don't come back. We get a lot of business. We don't need customers like you." So, the female cashier just propositioned me and I got abused by the rude, obnoxious and disrespectful manager. Given what occurred, I can't recommend Cadmans Montreal Bagels to anyone. I will never go back to any locations of Cadmans Montreal Bagels, ever. Also, adding to my negative experience, the bagels weren't fresh and lacked flavour. After partially eating one bagel, I ended up throwing all of the remaining bagels into the garbage. read more

I believe this is one of two locations in Ottawa, the other being on Bank St. but both places offer the same delicious oven fired bagels! They tout themselves as having 'Montreal style bagels' and while they are very good and probably the closest you're going to get to a Montreal style bagel in Ottawa, in my opinion, they are still a little breadier than say a Fairmont bagel. In addition to a great variety of standard bagels they also have a couple of interesting combinations on offer like the blueberry cheese or chocolate cheese bagels! Though the atmosphere is lacking somewhat in the sense that it faces on Carling and doesn't have a cosy feel about it, during the busy lunch hour it is a great place to come for a good and inexpensive salad and/or sandwich combo. It also offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, parking on site and a computer terminal with free internet for customers. read more

Staying in Ottawa for a weekend getaway, we decided to get some breakfast at Cadmans. We both got breakfast sandwiches (cheese, egg and bacon) on sesame bagels. Although they look delicious, neither me nor my partner could taste any flavour apart from the bagel - which was not fantastic, it didn't taste very fresh. We waited a couple minutes to see if it was just because our sandwiches were hot: still nothing. Very bland, as if it was a bagel with nothing but unseasoned egg whites inside. Staff was not very friendly. However, we did share a small sugar tart (wrapped in food wrap at the cash) which was good. Overall, I wouldn't return. read more

On a road trip with a friend who is a Kettleman's fan so we stopped in to check it out. When you walk in you get a good look at the bagel prep area and the giant wood burning oven; fun to watch as they move the bagels through the oven with the giant wooden paddles. Nice menu with sandwiches, bagels and assorted other items. The staff worked hard to get everyone what they needed and they were very friendly. Tried an onion bagel; the oven fire gives the outside of the bagel a bit of a char, which makes the onion on top a bit sweeter. Nice and soft on the inside. A very good bagel, certainly not the best I have had, but I would come back if I was in the area. For lunch I got 2 knishes, a potato and a spinach. Both were a bit smaller then I was used to but were nicely flavored with the spinach having a really nice little kick to it. The knish outside were a bit more pastry like, but worth having. The highlight of the items I tried was the Chocolate Puff, which I would describe as a croissant without the curve. Flaky light layers of dough are mixed with dark chocolate for an outstanding pastry. If I had a Kettleman's near me, I would be addicted to these treats. If you love chocolate you should give this a try. read more

My parents have been coming sine the mid 1990's, and I have fond memories from my childhood. Everytime I come to Ottawa we make a trip to Kettleman's. Hand down best bagels in town! The bagels here are great! I wish I could say the same for the service. I give any establishment my three and three treatment; you get three strikes and then after three strikes I won't go back for three months but only if there is something redeeming about the place. In the case of Kettlemans they have great tasty bagels and they are in my neighbourhood so I keep trying. For the past year they have had nine strikes because of the very bad service. They used to have good staff but recently they can't seem to get an order correct and have at times been outright rude to me. If this continues, this place will be on the Never Return list. read more

Laughing my ass off reading all these bonehead reviews of Kettleman's Bagels filed under Cadman's. IMHO Cadman's are a hundred times better than Kettleman's. At least they don't char the crap outta the onion bagels, my fav at Cadman's. Cadman's gets it right, cooked perfectly, so if and when you toast it you don't have burnt bagels. Cadman's seem to be made with a little more care, not so many odd shaped bagels as Kettleman'. read more

I went to Kettlemans on Carling for lunch today, waited 15 for my breakfast bagel. I was watching the girl start to make it, she dropped my laktes in a pile of dirt, bacon grease and whatever else was on the bottom of the microwave, slid it across this mess and put it back with my sandwich to serve me. Needless to say I got my money back, also I spoke with the manager and she said the reason the girl did that was because she was new. It was one of grossest things I've seen a server do. The shop on Bank st is amazing, they are like two totally different places. I will never go back to the one on Carling Ave and I will be forever grateful I saw it happen because I may have eaten it if I didn't. The horror. read more

An older man served me and he was very nice the other employees seemed spacey. I think it's just lack of experience with customers. I'm not sure how this place is getting such good reviews. We love Kettleman's but this location was first and last time I will eat there. Ordered a chicken club and it was absolutely disgusting. Where do I start? Chicken was microwaved until it was rubber, the bacon was soggy and disgusting as were the tomatoes. Not often my bf throws out food but it went straight in the garbage. I ordered a turkey sandwich on a poppy seed bagel, a Caesar salad, and an apple turnover through the UberEATS app. It was the best sandwich I have had in a very long time. Incredibly tasty and fresh. Salad was large and very good, and the turnover was amazing. Prices are more than fair - I would pay 1.5x what I paid today. Love this place for a good and inexpensive place to take my boys for breakfast on the weekends. Three chocolate bagels toasted with butter and a half Litre of chocolate milk is about $7. That feeds us well enough and is way better than taking them to the golden arches. As mentioned the bagels are not like Tim hortons which is more like bread with a hole in it. Switched and inferior quality products with increased prices. That's Cadman's Montreal Bagels on Carling Avenue. Today I ordered breakfast for my first visit since Cadman's took ownership. I spent $12 on a Cadman Special and a small coffee. The coffee was weak beyond belief and the cream cheese in my bagel was a whipped flavourless low fat product that closely resembled a yogurt product. Still I wanted a loaf of Challah; it was $5.00. $1.50 more than at other bakeries but I agreed then asked for it sliced. I was then told there was an additional charge of $1.00 for that. I asked for the dollar slicing charged to be waived and the cashier interrupted the manager (?) on a personal cell phone call but she declined my request. I didn't buy the $6.00 loaf of bread. The I ate and drank the breakfast and had a good chew because there was no detectable flavor present. Don't bother and save a lot of cash. read more
