Before I headed to Ottawa on vacation, I bought a Groupon for a dozen bagels with a tub of cream cheese from Cadmans Montreal Bagels. I love getting Groupons, as it's the perfect way to discover a new business in my eyes, especially in a city that I am getting to know better. I checked out of my hotel on Sunday. I decided to redeem my Groupon and have lunch here before heading home. I drove over and didn't have a problem finding Cadmans. It's in a plaza with a Shoppers Drug Mart. I parked and went in. This eatery has a small patio. There were folks enjoying the sunshine at around noon. I had a helpful, lovely woman help me out with my Groupon and my lunch order. I got twelve onion bagels with a tub of dairy-free cream cheese. The bagels smelled so good. I was dying to rip one apart, but then realized that I was ordering lunch, so I was okay. I ordered Montreal smoked meat on a cinnamon raisin bagel. It's amazing how I used to dislike raisins in baked goods. However, add cinnamon to them and I am perfectly fine. I got dijon mustard on it. I found a table, and plopped my bag of bagels and cream cheese down. The aroma was still killing me. I got my food, thanked the woman, and started eating. The Montreal smoked meat sandwich was amazing. It had tons of flavour. The Swiss cheese and mustard made it great. I loved the contrast with the cinnamon raisin bagel. It was delicious! The bagels are a bit different than Kettleman's in that they are a bit harder at room temperature. However, they taste great, especially when you warm them up. I am down to my last two onion bagels now and will likely long for more once they are devoured. I am glad that I found another solid bagel place in Ottawa to frequent and get my bagel fix on. I'd definitely come back and have another sandwich. (302)

    1/2 dozen sesame bagels

The hubby surprised me this morning with half a dozen bagels and garlic cream cheese from Cadmans bagels. We've driven by this place several times and it is in the same plaza as Shoppers Drug Mart on Montreal Road, but never checked it out (Kettleman's fan here!) When I opened up the bag of bagels, they were not warm, and kind of felt hard. Uh oh, I thought. The hubby said they were sitting in a huge bin and looked like they were freshly made. I popped one in the toaster and topped it with the garlic cream cheese and they were amazing! They are a thicker style bagel, and a tad sweet, with a dense, crispy outside and softer inside. Definitely reminiscent of some of the Montreal style bagels that I have tried throughout my days, but best warmed up in my opinion. Garlic cream cheese was not overly powerful, and was just right! They have some neat bagel flavors like pumpernickel, jalapeno cheddar, and chocolate, but you can never go wrong with a sesame bagel. They also have some cool cream cheese creations like olive, dill pickle, and hot pepper cream cheese, and of course little treats like open faced pizza bagels, cookies, bagel sandwiches and salads. These bagels were a nice change from Kettlemans, and I will definitely be back!

The bagels are round but they don't have enough seeds. Black or white doesn't matter. They need more seeds.

No. But there are so, so many terrible, inedible bagels out there that this is still a five star bagel place. Basically the only place I've ever gotten good bagels has been in the Hudson Valley, NY and great bagels in NYC. Even bagels from Montreal were universally lambasted by a friend group who was up visiting a few years ago. I went to Kettleman's on a snowy evening before an Ottawa 67s game, and it was solid. Chewy poppy bagel with a little crisp, nice cream cheese and a soda. Doesn't get better than that. Service was good, though perhaps a bit slow to smear some cream cheese on a bagel, about 5 minutes by my estimate. Tables and restrooms were clean and place was warm despite the cold outside.

The bagels themselves were fine, but the cream cheese wasn't my favourite it was pretty runny and didn't have that thick, creamy texture I'm used to. Also, they pack everything in a paper bag, so it's not the same as getting bagels in a plastic bag to keep them fresh, like you would at spots back in Montreal. Overall, it's okay to try if you're curious, but personally I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Montreal bagels still win for me.

There are three ordering stations. One for pastries and truffles, one for straight bagels, and one for coffee, sandwiches/bagels w/ cream cheese, ect. It took us a while to figure it out, but the staff were helpful. I ordered a sesame bagel with garlic and herb cream cheese. Hubs got a latte and the kids got a buttered bagel and fries (which comes with a paprika seasoning on top of the fries). Bagel was nice and thick, and a tad sweet. Of course I am going to compare bagels, but it gave me flashbacks to St-Viateur Bagel in Montreal. Cream cheese tasted homemade and not as salty as Kettelmans bagels. The bagels were good, and I'd go back again, but I prefer Kettlemans.

The man said that will be tricky because the chai mix is already sweetened, so he can put in less mix but the chai flavour would be less pronounced. I said I was ok with that. He was right, that my drink had a very subtle tea flavour, which I was expecting. Fortunately, I was happy with the level of sweetness of the drink. It wasn't overly sweet. It was also fairly rich and creamy. What I wasn't too thrilled about though, was the excessive amount of ice in the cup. Like half of the cup was ice :( The shop sells bagels, as per its name, as well as deli meets, desserts, some shelf stable goods, as well as a good selection of bulk Jelly Belly jelly beans, which are very popular with kids. They have some seating inside as well as outside in front of the shop. It'll update if I return to try their bagels, but I likely will not return for any iced drinks, since the cup is mostly ice. Street parking only.

I do frequent this location from time to time and the building does need some maintenance and a good deep clean. This location is probably the second busiest location that I have ventured into, aside from Bank street. The interior is starting to show some wear and tear. The last time that I was here, which was early December of this year, the whole entrance, leading up the cash was a puddle. They had a fan next to the cash/display case to try and air out the restaurant. There was dried splatter on most of the art on the wall. Bathrooms were lacking hand soap and not clean. The restaurant did not feel clean. Service was friendly, ,bagel was fine. They have added some new items to the menu, like tater tots, which were really hard, burnt and just not good. They also reduced the size of the pickles that they serve with the bagels to a sliver. Its quiet humorous. It used to be a quarter of a pickle (Take a look at my past photos that I uploaded). If you are in the area, and craving a bagel, they do make some of the best in the city, but best to grab them and bring them home.

Nice, faint crunch on the exterior, soft interior with still some bite to make it a delicious bagel. We enjoyed the classic kettlemen bagel sandwich which had smooth cream cheese, salty capers and rich and fatty smoked salmon. Everything worked really well with the fresh bagel. 5/5. We also tried the oven roasted chicken bagel sandwich. The chicken was okay, it works as a sandwich but not my favorite. 4/5 but the bagel carries this. Price is not bad for lunch meal.

I ordered the vegetarian bagel sandwich, hubs ordered the smoked meat. Both on sesame bagels which are always amazing. Both kids ordered a toasted buttered chocolate chip bagel. They ate some, but weren't a fan. Its a personal preference, I guess. While the hubs and I enjoyed our sandwiches, we both said it didn't "hit" like other locations (we prefer Trainyards). We also giggled at how tiny the pickle spear was. It was a sliver of a sliver, of a sliver, if you get what I mean. It showed up much larger in my photo. For just under 40 bucks with a bag of chips and 2 milks, it's not cheap. Restaurant was large, lighting was dim and relaxing. Customer service was fine and our order was brought to our table which was a nice touch. Gender shared bathrooms were not bad, but could have used a mop. There is also a drive thru on site.
