Even bagels from Montreal were universally lambasted by a friend group who was up visiting a few years ago. I went to Kettleman's on a snowy evening before an Ottawa 67s game, and it was solid. Chewy poppy bagel with a little crisp, nice cream cheese and a soda. Doesn't get better than that. Service was good, though perhaps a bit slow to smear some cream cheese on a bagel, about 5 minutes by my estimate. Tables and restrooms were clean and place was warm despite the cold outside.

Also, they pack everything in a paper bag, so it's not the same as getting bagels in a plastic bag to keep them fresh, like you would at spots back in Montreal. Overall, it's okay to try if you're curious, but personally I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Montreal bagels still win for me.

There are three ordering stations. One for pastries and truffles, one for straight bagels, and one for coffee, sandwiches/bagels w/ cream cheese, ect. Hubs got a latte and the kids got a buttered bagel and fries (which comes with a paprika seasoning on top of the fries). Bagel was nice and thick, and a tad sweet. Of course I am going to compare bagels, but it gave me flashbacks to St-Viateur Bagel in Montreal. Cream cheese tasted homemade and not as salty as Kettelmans bagels. The staff are friendly and the space was clean. We went on a Sunday morning and it was busy but not packed as it looks like a lot of people take-out from here. They also sell other items that we didn't grab - smoked salmon, various dips, cookies and other pastries. Will definitely be on a look-out for kettlemans in the future.

This location is probably the second busiest location that I have ventured into, aside from Bank street. The interior is starting to show some wear and tear. The last time that I was here, which was early December of this year, the whole entrance, leading up the cash was a puddle. They had a fan next to the cash/display case to try and air out the restaurant. There was dried splatter on most of the art on the wall. Bathrooms were lacking hand soap and not clean. The restaurant did not feel clean. Service was friendly, ,bagel was fine. They have added some new items to the menu, like tater tots, which were really hard, burnt and just not good. They also reduced the size of the pickles that they serve with the bagels to a sliver. Its quiet humorous. It used to be a quarter of a pickle (Take a look at my past photos that I uploaded). If you are in the area, and craving a bagel, they do make some of the best in the city, but best to grab them and bring them home.

The Bagel Place is one of them. Formerly known as Dover bagels, the store was sold and the name changed with it. The operation is pretty much the same though. They have an assortment of bagels that are made very morning. Along with bagels they have other treats like assorted cream cheeses and desserts. The store itself is located in a pretty unexceptional strip mall in Nepean, not for from the Greenbank police detachment. If you're ever in the area getting a ticket taken care of, stop by here on the way home.
