Have been here twice to find Horseshoe Falls and have seen no waterfall, either visit. The trail is rocky and rooty. I also think the area is haunted, as we kept hearing voices and noises, but saw nothing or no one. read more

Beautiful visitor center with updated displays. Winter hours are Monday -Friday 8am -4pm. Small gift shop, run by the Friends of Caesar Creek, with books, sweatshirts and stickers. Summer brings the caterpillar and butterfly lab. Public programs like Salamander hike, Monarch Butterfly Day and Owl Fest provide lots of family fun. We stopped by Caesar Creek Lake because we heard about the flamingos that stopped by the lake during the hurricane. While we did not get to see them, we did enjoy a great visit here at the Caesar Creek Lake Visitor Center. Not to be confused with the nature center in the state park, the visitor center is run by the Army Corp of Engineers who maintain the dam. It contains a lot of great information, with one room dedicated to how the dam functions, another on the animals in the area, and a great space where they are raising a number of moth and butterfly species. Our timing was great - some of the monarch butterflies that had recently emerged were tagged and ready for release, and a friendly ranger invited the kids who were in the center at the time to take them out. The kids loved it! They offer several different films to watch in a small theater space, and we enjoyed watching the one about the lake. The center also has a great location - it's near a very nice overlook on the lake, as well as a short but enjoyable interpretive trail that includes woods and prairie and passes by the youth fishing pond. There's a nice playground available too, plus shelterhouse with picnic tables. Paved parking is available, or if you are out on the lake, there is a pier where you can dock and access the center from. read more

We had a class field trip with my daughters preschool today at Caesar's creek visitor center. I was very impressed. Our ranger described the dam as a giant bath tub and how it fills with spring rain. She was great with the kids. Explained how beneficial coyotes are to the local habitat. They keep our roads clean because roadkill pizza is their favorite. The park looks recently renovated. There are two swing sets and three climb and play sets. I had no idea how amazing this place was. It will definitely be a regular summer stop for my family. read more
