The food was flavorful and the bottle of rose wine we had topped everything off on a wonderful last night in Paris! I had the flank steak and the lady had spaghetti pasta. Where do I even start? While exploring the area near the Arc de Triomphe, it began to rain. My husband and I thought it would be a perfect time to grab some lunch and wait out the rain. I was really craving pasta and my husband had been wanting pizza. We searched and searched for a place that had pasta-- and we came across Cafe George V. While looking over the menu, a waiter came up to us and began talking to us. He asked if we needed any help with the menu and then asked us where we were from, if it was our first visit to Paris, etc. We wanted to sit outside under the patio, but he informed us it was a smoking area so we decided to sit inside the restaurant. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. We speak very little French, but our waiter was patient while we tried and also spoke very good English. We ordered our food and it came out of the kitchen incredibly fast!!! My pasta was DELICIOUS! Seriously the best chicken I have ever had. My husband said it was one of the best pizzas he has ever had. The prices were not terrible, and in fact, we feel they fit what we ordered. My party and I stopped in here on a late evening after attending a cabaret show at Lido where, looking back now, we probably should have dined. Nevertheless, we chose convenience and perceived ambiance over quality and paid the price for it. Though, this place is centrally located on the fabulous Champs Élysées, it doesn't stop it from being crap to attract easily taken tourists-we were taken, against my better judgement. Despite the large heated dining terrasse on the avenue, we opted to sit inside near the window, less chance of a stray cold breeze on this winter night and also no cigarette smoke (Parisians really love their cigarettes). There was some confusion about where we could sit, despite at this late hour, there was plenty of seating available. Our host said the area that we wanted to sit was not in his section; to which we replied, we didn't ask to sit in your section, but after an annoying back and forth in English and French, we simply conceded. I must also note, that he didn't even stay to finish serving us through the duration of our meal. He left the restaurant halfway through it. We all ordered different dishes. They were all quite subpar; average at best. I had been craving my duck confit from a nice French restaurant all trip and I was sorely disappointed. The bread was a winner though; consolation prize. Finally, two of us decided to go all out with desert crêpes with Nutella because, how can French people mess that up, right?! It wasn't memorable but the waiter insisted that I have signature glass of cognac with it which I didn't really want but needed to salvage the meal. He didn't tell me what cognac it was until it was on the table and I was tasting it; Hennessy XO; delicious and luckily being in France it wasn't as expensive as what I'd normally pay for it so there's a slight win. So, to recap, stop in here for bread and alcohol only or to smoke on the patio and converse with your friends. C'est la vie! read more

It's a strong 3.5 so I bumped it up to a 4. This is a total tourist trap. But it's on the Champs and the service is fast due to the many people on the street coming in for a drink or a bite. The menu is mediocre, nothing extraordinary. It was close to my hotel so very convenient. I got the onion soup and a glass of rosé almost every day. There's no need to try anything more than that here. The best part about this place is the people watching. People on the side walk , in the street , at the table across from you. Wow. Rude. My three friends and I went in wanting to order dessert. When I asked for the strawberry tarte I was told there was no more. Since I had my mind set on it I wanted to know what else was available and the waiter rudely slammed the menu on the table and walked away. He didn't bother to ask my other two friends what they would like. At that point only one of them was willing to order given the attitude. When he finally came back he wasn't willing to take her order because it was only one of three of us ordering. Given the attitude and his rejection in serving us we had nothing left to do but leave. When he saw us get up he responded with it being "better." The beef was seasoned perfectly! The fries could have sat in the frier a little longer because they were a bit soggy and limp in texture. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful. From point of ordering to point of receiving food was in a very decent amount of time. The prices are a little higher than they should be but this was a higher end area so the raise of price is expected. Overall this was a good restaurant. This place has a great selection to choose from. If you have to choose between outdoor and indoor seating, I recommend indoor seating. If you're not a fan of carcinogenic air and don't like the feeling of getting lung cancer then indoor is better suited.
