Time's ticking at a different pace at Café Renroc.

Café Renroc is a versatile place. On the corner of a quiet street, it reminds you of a parisian café on a sunny Saturday morning, as people sit outside, enjoying one of the best coffees in town. The space inside is bright and nicely decorated with a retro flair. It's small, so you might want to go downstairs, where you'll find yet again a totally different world: A dim and cosy hideaway with massive chairs, raw brick walls and old furniture. Perfect to bring your book and forget about the outside world. The food is great. I personally love the chorizo salad, their dressing deserves a special praise. There's also full monty scottish breakfast, eggs, quiches, paninis and pancakes - everything you'd expect from an enchanted café like this. Sweets are great too. I'd go for the caramel shortbread.

4 stars for ambiance but 2 stars for food. Sorely disappointing dinner! You have a limited food choice - set 2 or 3 course dinner. I chose the lentil soup and grilled maple salmon with risotto with asparagus - what I got was barely booked vegetables in the soup (hard) with cold butter to slab on my bread, and salmon on a overly creamy sauce with tiny pieces of asparagus.. Both dishes didn't taste that great so didn't feel it was worth the £12. There's a very cozy and well decorated seating area downstairs and a couple tables outdoors, and the music is cool. Good for drinks but not a meal in my opinion.

Great place to work: fast and reliable wifi, peaceful downstairs area.

Looking for breakfast in Edinburgh and we found this gem…read more It was a short walk from the hotel and even though the hotel had breakfast we were not impressed with it so decided to venture out. The Edinburgh Larder was the answer. We arrived right at opening. We were seated immediately and the place is casual clean and welcoming. The service was excellent and I got the traditional Scottish breakfast. Haggis and all and it was excellent, filing and worth walking in the light mist. The Mushroom Toast was very tasty according to my wife. The place is small and part of the larger establishment next door but still the same great food. You want authentic Scottish breakfast hot up the Edinburgh Larder and you will not be disappointed!

Once one area is full they will sit u to the other area! I was sitting right by the window and it was lovely. The decor is cozy and homie! The server is very friendly and I ordered full Scottish breakfast to try out everything and chai latte. It came fairly fast and it was a very full dish. I tried all the food and they are all yummy. The blood pudding is not quite my favorite. And the bean with the red sauce is a little too spicy for me. But overall it is very good. Chai latte is super yummy and not overly sweet!

We clearly didn't plan things out well, as we had to scramble to hit stops 6 and 7 within an hour of closing, on our last full day in Edinburgh. But, in our defense, coffee shops close up super early in Edinburgh! We hustled our way from the Mile towards Cairngorm, side-stepping tourists and hurrying across intersections. On a normal day, it would've been a nice jaunt through town, but on this day, it was a hectic seemingly-longer-than-it-should-have-been-half-sprint to the front door. I did love the feel of this shop, from the steps leading down to the cozy interior and the bags of spent coffee bean lining the ceiling. The girl working that day was very nice and welcoming. We placed our order and settled into a small table near the back of the building. I kept an eye on the barista (hubby's back was to the counter) so that I could pop up to grab our drinks when they were ready, but she brought them to us, instead. She saw our Disloyal 7 cards out on the table, and said, "Be sure to bring that by before you leave so that I can stamp them!" The lattes were good, with a nice, rich and creamy flavor. I think I could've ended our night here, wrapped up in the warmth of a good latte and a comfortable chair, but my husband pointed out that we had time to get to the final stop on our list, if we hurried. So, we went up to the counter and had the barista stamp their slice, and then hurried once more into the cold Edinburgh dusk.
