Cafe Rustica sandwiches are so good! I ordered the Ham & Swiss sandwich and enjoyed it so much i returned the following week and ordered it again. The toasted bread is perfectly crispy and the ham sandwich with all the toppings feels satisfying to bite into. Their staff are really friendly and welcoming, and there is decent indoor seating. There is street parking along Beacon Street. This is truly a hidden gem in Somerville! Will be returning frequently to satisfy my Italian sandwich cravings :)

This is a great neighborhood spot for super customizable breakfast or deli sandwiches with fresh, delicious ingredients! We came here around noon on a Sunday and the line to order moved pretty quickly. There was indoor seating for about 12 people, and we were able to get a table, but that might not be the case on busier days. I got the roast beef sandwich with mustard and all the toppings, and it came out quickly and panini-pressed. It was the perfect tasty and filling portion for brunch/early lunch! I can't wait to come here again when I'm in the area!

Very reasonably priced sandwich place with nice staff. We got the Almond Croissant, Roast Beef & Brie, and Pastrami & Swiss. We got the sandwiches with all the fixings, as recommended and they were great. The place felt very homey and we sat to do work for a bit. They were lovely.

Absolutely faboulous. I have came here for 15 years and this place never disappoints. Their coffee is exquisite with a balanced sweetness and the best caprese sandwich I have had in my life (called the rústica special). The staff are so kind and are at this point friends and the cafe is quaint and super welcoming. A true gem in Boston.

Sweet sweet man took our order. We sat down in this small cafe. It's not the prettiest inside. Limited seating. The space could use a minor refresh. Lots of customers for Sunday lunch. We ordered coffee, egg sandwich, and roast beef with Brie. Everything was yummy. I could do without the black pepper in my sandwich but still was really great. Street parking so if it's not a Sunday might be hard to find one.

A lovely and quiet little cafe that offers delicious coffees and some baked goods. Service was very friendly and the coffee was top tier. The bagel was fresh and a good size. This cafe is perfect for a quick pick me up. Tables are open with a 45 min limit per customer but not sure if that's applicable when it's slow. There is also a table outside for outside dining with lots of nearby benches. The owners gave my pup a sizable amount of treats. We will definitely be coming back. :)

the turkey provolone sandwich was fire! so flavorful and a great price for the portion size. the service is TERRIFIC, such good vibes as soon as you walk in the door :)

    Rustica special

Delicious sandwiches, great and friendly service, and excellent cappuccinos! Plus the green salad includes lots of real veggies not just lettuce.

Everything bagel with egg and avocado

I ordered 2 everything bagels with egg and avocado. The price is really cheap compared to some other cafes in the area, so if you're a college student or looking for a quick bite, this is the place for you. However, judging purely off of taste, the egg was a bit under-salted for me. All in all, a pretty decent spot!

I used to live right down the street from this cute little cafe and decided to finally give it a try a few days before moving away! Definitely regret not stopping by sooner, it was a nice experience! The staff were very friendly and kind upon entering. There were no other customers ( I came on a weekday in the early afternoon ) but in the mornings, I know it can be a lot busier as people are grabbing breakfast and coffee. I got a sandwich and coffee, both things were made relatively quickly. I ended up taking out, but they have seats inside and outside which I'm sure would've been a pleasant experience. The food itself was great - I highly recommend ordering in person rather than on any third party food app as the prices are noticeably more expensive if you do ( I saw that the sandwich I wanted was ~$11 on the app but only ~$9 in store ). I decided to go with prosciutto and provolone and didn't regret it! It was very cleanly made and very filling for the price. The coffee I bought as well tasted really fresh and had just the right sweetness ( they asked if I wanted to adjust it before I left as well ). Overall I loved this place and wouldn't hesitate to come back to try more of their menu. Thanks for the great food and kind service, Cafe Rustica!

Would come back just for this cruller, and am willing to try their other items now that I know what they're capable of. ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] MAPLE CRULLER (5/5) As good as everyone says it is. The exterior is so satisfyingly crispy, but the interior has the exact right soft, eggy consistency that defines the cruller. The maple glaze is definitely very sweet, but somehow it actually works well with the fried dough such that it's not overpowering. Maple is their most popular flavor, but they also have other flavors and monthly specials to try. 2. DRIP COFFEE Perfectly fine drip coffee. The mugs they give you are smaller than their to-go cups, so probably opt for your coffee to-go, especially if you plan to go on a little stroll after accidentally eating 6 crullers for breakfast... ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * A large, spacious cafe that had a NY, tiled environment mixed with a more laidback Tatte vibe * More seating inside than I thought there would be (though a mix of individual tables, a communal high top, counter seats by the window, and tables outside) * One design issue though is that the ordering counter is right at the front door, meaning there's actually very little space for the line and so on bad weather days, you might be caught waiting outdoors under the elements vs. indoors. I'm sure there are some days where the line naturally forms inside, but the way the space is designed does not make that easy

We walked into a casual, energetic space with a stylish interior that felt more like a neighborhood lunch spot than a traditional sub shop. Seating was somewhat limited, but it worked well for a quick meal or takeout, and the steady flow of customers reflected its growing popularity. The sandwiches are the biggest draw, especially the chopped Caesar sub that has become one of the restaurant's signature items. We ordered it and found the combination of crispy chicken, fresh romaine, Caesar dressing, parmesan, and prosciutto messy but surprisingly balanced. The Italian sub was another standout, packed with high-quality meats, cheese, and fresh toppings on soft bread. Portions were generous across the menu, making it easy to split a sandwich or save part of it for later. The pizza is also worth trying, with both classic and specialty slices available throughout the day. We tried the buffalo chicken and vodka sauce slices, and the crust had a satisfying crispness while still holding up well under the toppings. The chicken parmesan and mozzarella sticks also made good additions to round out the meal. Service was friendly and efficient during our visit, and the food came out quickly even with a steady stream of customers. The restaurant can get busy during lunch and weekends, especially after gaining attention on social media, so finding a seat may take some patience. Parking around Davis Square can also be challenging, making public transportation or walking a convenient alternative. Overall, Mortadella Head lives up to its reputation as one of the more unique sandwich shops in the Boston area. The combination of generous portions, creative menu items, quality ingredients, and a fun atmosphere makes it an easy place to recommend. Whether we stopped by for a viral chopped Caesar sub or a slice of pizza, it is the kind of spot that is worth adding to your list.
