Café Toussaint is a charming little restaurant just steps away from the Grand Hotel Downtown. While walking back from Dam Square, we spotted this cozy little corner café and knew we had to come here for dinner one night. We decided to celebrate our last night here with a cozy dinner and I'm really happy we did. We walked in at around 8:45pm without reservations and there were a couple of tables available. We were seated immediately and given menus in both English and Dutch. Although DuoLingo has given me the basics (kind of), we ended up ordering from the English menu, in true tourist fashion. I think we were the only foreigners dining there that evening, as the bar and tables seemed to be full of locals. That's how you know the food is good! My cousin opted for the ravioli special of the night, and I ordered the prime rib - medium rare. Although cooked a bit rarer then I am used to, the meat was delicious and tender. This is the way meat is supposed to be served, so I'm not even mad about it. My dish came with fried potatoes and a side salad which included picked veggies. Everything was spot on. For dessert, we went with the sticky toffee pudding which is one of my favorites, and hard to find in the US. We DEVOURED this in a few bites. I wish we had ordered an extra! Service was friendly but slow, likely because there was only one person waiting tables, and it seems like the Dutch do enjoy a leisurely dinner. I don't blame them. Loved this spot! Definitely a little gem.

Found this little gem by our hotel and it was so good. Excellent service and quality food. Pick a seat. Doesn't matter where you sit because it feels cozy anywhere. Bathrooms are towards the back of the restaurant and is very clean. We ordered lattes and they were delicious. I got the Florentine Benedict and it was amazing!! Definitely recommend. My fiancé ordered the scramble and added ham. It was a huge serving. We enjoyed everything. Enjoy!

Pumpkin ravioli with Gorgonzola

Quintessential bistro with just the right amount of lunch or dinner options. I had one of the two survivals: pumpkin ravioli with Gorgonzola cream sauce and salad. Next trip I'll be sure to get in on the chocolate creme brûlée. Perhaps 10 tables, outdoor seating as well in a quiet neighborhood near Leidespleiin. Staff and proprietor are always friendly and accommodating.

Coppa di Parma sandwich!

This restaurant is situated in a beautiful, picturesque neighborhood. (Then again, what neighborhood in Amsterdam ISN'T beautiful and picturesque!) We were seated immediately for lunch. I had the coppa di parma sandwich and tomato basil soup. Both were absolutely divine. The sandwich came open faced. It had a nice salty taste from the ham and artichoke and a perfect crunch from the pine nuts. I loved how they topped it off with watercress. The soup was rich and thick and had great flavors and it had a great balance of acidity and sweetness. I've had my share of tomato soups and this is up there with one of the best I've tried. My lunch was served with a glass of Leffe blonde beer which went so well with the sandwich and soup. Service was decent. I would go back to this place if I make it back to Amsterdam.

Salad: goat cheese, figs, dried tomatoes

We had an excellent meal here! The soups and antipasti were amazing, and the rest of my family enjoyed their salads or tapas a lot! Special mention to the apple pie, it was really excellent! The service wasn't very fast, but all waiters were extremely nice and helpful as we needed indications for our plans of the day. I definitely recommend this place!

Salad and Quiche
Julie S.

Quaint cafe on a side street near/in the Jordaan neighborhood. I ordered the salad (only one on menu). Greens with warm goat cheese, pumpkin, pine nuts, and artichoke hearts. The taste was good but there was way too much dressing on the greens. I couldn't finish because it was so oily. My husband got the Quiche with spinach, feta and mushrooms. There was so much spinach and feta that it tasted like a spinach dip. There was definitely not enough egg proportionally. Other foods may be better but we wished more thought would have been put into the details.

The lamb burger, amazing!

I was alerted to the presence of this small French cafe by my DK Eyewitness guidebook for Amsterdam. Tucked away in the northern section of the museum district, this cafe is far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of the really touristy streets of this section, which makes it feel like a hidden local secret. We walked passed the upscale street with all the Burberry, Hugo Boss, Chanel, etc stores and their associated overpriced bistros and cafes to hunt down this cafe, I can't say enough of how happy we were we decided to! The food was A-mazing, and the prices were probably the most ridiculous part of our lunch. A massive (and delicious) lamb burger was only 8.5 euro, with a Sprite the whole meal fell under 10 euro, something hard to do even at fast food places here in Amsterdam sometimes. Hands down if you're going to see some of the museums in this district, or just going for a walk and want a solid lunch go out of your way to find this. It's also close to a couple tram lines (find a map with them on it). PS. The menu was translated into English for foreigners!

We were recommended to eat here by a bartender at another place and were blown away. The chef and staff know what they are doing and truly made for a wonderful experience.

The cafe recently opened near the Hoofddorplein and is already getting very popular with the locals. I totally get why, since Bert makes a delicious coffee and is also a very cool guy who is in for a little chat. The good reputation of their Antwerp location also does not hurt at all. Antwerp location? Well yes, Caffènation is a much loved coffeeshop in Antwerp. We are very lucky that Bert fell in serious love with a Dutch girl because that is what brought him here! And now he owns the Caffènation location here in Ansterdam. Cool stuff right? Coffee lovers will really enjoy the big drinks menu at this place which offers a lot of different choices like cappuccino and espresso but also more adventurous drinks like a 'Ginger Spice' or a 'Bitter Moon'. Last few times I went with a flat white (like usual, they are my favorite!) and that tasted great. The space is quite big and has a lot of cosy spots to sit. You can even come over with a group of friends since in the downstairs area are a lot of seats. Great right?! Not so crowded like most city center spots and a way nicer and more personal vibe. I can imagine this place would do great for working or studying as well. Just go soon because i'm sure this place be discovered by the big crowds soon!

First of all, the service/the owner was up his game in a very attentive and polite way, at the same time very laid back chill kinda way. Love that about a place as much as I love my good cappuccino. We ordered one cappuccino and one latte, 2 sweets: pear chocolate cake and fruit passion pastry. The cappuccino is really good, so they have my blessing from now on. Also the sweets were good, I didn't enjoyed that much my pear chocolate cake and I went and took another fruit passion pastry and the guy was sorry I didn't like it, so nice :) And this is one big coffee place, very chill sfeer, not your usual small crowded hipster coffee place. And it's pretty close from Vondel Park :) You will be seeing more of me and my friends there, I always take my friends in the places I love.

Ever been on a trip and you love a place so much that you JUST have to keep coming back to it over…read moreand over again? Well, that was us with Koffie Academie. We were here three times during our stay in Amsterdam, and I think I found my brand new favorite coffee shop in the city, and I was really sad that I had to leave it behind when our vacation was over. The most convenient part is that it was within walking distance of our hotel and right across from the train station. To keep a piece of Koffie Academie with me back at home in the States, I chose to buy a bag of their Rwanda-style coffee beans. On our first visit, I just had their cappuccino alone since it was later in the afternoon and I had already had lunch, but during the second and third visit, I tried their croissants. Amsterdam, hands down, has the BEST coffee ever. I think way better than the coffee in other European countries we've visited during our trip so far. I had to put sugar in my cappuccino during every visit to make it sweeter (sugar cubes and sugar packets are available). This was my parents' second time in Amsterdam and they stuck with their mochas, which they had before. Both the croissants I had were flaky on the outside and buttery on the inside. My mom had their coconut square treat which, I believe, had either strawberries or raspberries inside with a solid chocolate topping. While I didn't get the chance to try it, I thought that it looked delicious! I think I want to try this during my next trip to Amsterdam. Koffie Academie, you have not been forgotten in my memory. Can't wait to see you again upon my return to Amsterdam in the near future!

What a brilliant cortado!…read more I arrived in town before I could check in so I settled here to answer some emails while I wait. What a cozy cafe with brilliant coffee. My cortado was excellent and while I didn't purchase any the baked sweets looked very appetizing. I came back 2 more times during my stay in Amsterdam which is very unlike me because I like to try many cafes when I travel. Fyi - the espresso is quite strong for my taste so if that is something you're sensitive to then adjust your order.

The restaurant was already booked so reserve ahead if you want to go for. Instead sat at the bar and ordered an appetizer platter and too much wine to publicly mention. The platter was delish! After succeeding to order they delivered quite fast so thats a plus. They have two different menus, a "food" menu and a "snack" menu. We where just out for a quick beer and snack and couldn't find anything on the menu we where handed and saw that other tables got their bitterballen and various snacks, but when we got the hand of the snacks menu then we where good to go. Unfortunately the beer's they carried weren't on neither of the menus and thats a shame. Ordered biertjes and bitterballen and you can't really fail with that can you. Will be back for beer and snacks sitting in the sun.
