Come for the drinks not the food. Not sure how we were to eat the open faced cheese sandwich on the tiny plate. Service was fine, a bit under staffed considering how busy and the vibe was very pub like feeling

We stopped by here for lunch after walking around and having been scared out of our wits at the Amsterdam Dungeon. They have a large outdoor seating area by the canal with umbrellas but it was hot so we decided to sit inside which was nice. Really cool decor with an intricate chandelier on the ceiling. Seemed like a very popular place with tourists and locals. I got the tomato soup which came piping hot, was rich and creamy and just the right mix of sour and savory. Nice complement with the bread too. Could have used another slice of bread to make it more filling. But it was a light lunch. The hubs got the smoked salmon salad which was quite a good portion and came with tomatoes and capers and onions and pickles and bread. We sat there for quite a while after we finished eating and they didn't bother us. We had to kill some time before heading over for the Van Gogh Rembrandt 360 experience. The bathrooms are downstairs and we even saw people walk in to only use them and they let them which was nice. Great place to have some Dutch food while seeing the sights in the city!!

This is the terrace, it is on the bridge, it must be one of the largest in Amsterdam.

Café van Zuylen is in a wonderful location on top of the Singel canal. You cannot beat this outdoor terrace. It's also cozy indoor cafe on the corner. There are umbrellas if it is raining too. It must be one of the largest outdoor terrace space in the centrum. It is also right next to the "skinniest" house in Amsterdam. It's easy to miss since it's so skinny! I didn't rate the food since I haven't eaten. We meet here regularly for coffee and drinks though.

Fantastic spot to sit, soak up some sun on a beautiful spring day and have a drink, snack or lunch on a bridge overlooking a canal! Service was prompt and very pleasant. We had sourdough bread and hummus to start (ample and delicious) followed by a club sandwich and mozzarella tomato panino. Can't go wrong with either one. Lovely way to relax and watch Amsterdam passersby.

Really nice place to grab dinner. The atmosphere is inviting and the food was really good. Everyone was happy with their choices. Tried one of the local IPA's and didn't disappoint. Will definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a solid place to enjoy a well cooked meal.

Great find close to our Hotel Die Port Van Cleve. Great atmosphere! Dutch food was great. I enjoyed it so much I went back at the end of the evening. Seemed like a good locals spot, but also welcoming to tourists. The Dutch Pea Soup was excellent as well as the Stompot and other Dutch snacks.

This is a cozy chill place with nice views of the canal. Enjoyed a small plate with an ice cold Heineken while sitting under the outdoor umbrellaed tables.

Walked in after walking around the city looking for lunch. It looked alright and that's what we got, just alright. Son had blt, I got croquets, husband had a sandwich and daughter ordered smoked salmon. We all ate half of our food. It was fine but not worth a return and idk if I'd recommend. Oh yeah, how could I forget that there's a cat there that goes from table to table. We didn't see it til after we ordered. If we had seen it before we would have probably left.

This was my favorite restaurant during our stay in Amsterdam. We usually came here for lunch and simple sandwiches like Ossenworst (raw beef sausage) or Oud Amsterdam (cheese). But we had a dinner here once and it was good too.

Well what a surprise! Classy, casual, friendly and awesome food. Menu had a bit of everything- staff was very sweet and the owner really loves what he does (you can tell because he's constantly smiling and doing something). Excellent beer and wine list too. Perfect for Coffee and Pastries or a full meal. Ignore all the reviews under 5 stars for this place as it's worth a stop.

We really liked the food there! The salmon pasta was great, not to heavy on the sauce and it was seasoned to perfection. The goat cheese salad with pear was amazing . We have been traveling for almost a month throughout Europe , and my boyfriend said it was the best salad he had thus far in our travels . I would say those two dishes were winners for sure ! The atmosphere was cool ... One side is just a pub, with some bar food and spills out into the sidewalk . The other side that we visited was the restaurant . There were several locals there, so that's always nice to see . I would would definitely return and do recommend trying it.

    Croquettes ! A must try!!!

I enjoyed this place for lunch so much that I came back for diner the same day! Great atmosphere, good music and friendly/attentive staff. I had the traditional croquettes to start which were delicious and for diner had the beef stew and mash.:. Very filling and could not help myself to finish the dish. They also make a great cup of coffee!

Another five star location. Tons of outdoor seating on a canal. It's a pub... In Amsterdam... What more do you want?

Really delicious lunch of sandwiches and tomato soup. Good beer selection. You can sit outside at tables - or inside. Good service.

Which makes me wonder... do faeries claim nationalities? I hope not. There's a minuscule indoor seating area, but come spring and summer - as long as it's not raining - you'll want to move on back to the very leafy and verdant outdoor terrace. If you're lucky, the one table that gives you rain protection but is still technically outdoors will be available. I was lucky. And it did sprinkle while I was there. I can't speak to the food. I only had fresh mint tea, served with honey and a teensy cookie. Let me tell ya... it was the day after Amsterdam's hottest day in recorded history and the entire city was just tuckered out. Feeble even. That's why I asked for ice and made my hot tea into an iced mint tea. Re-freshing! The menu offerings are limited but apparently satisfying judging from my dining companions' happy faces. The two women caring for us were terrific about setting the friendly tone. Recommend exploring around this charming spot on Utrechtsestraat for clothing and specialty shops and other highly rated eateries, including some Michelin-rated.

While it functions as a cozy, traditional Dutch brown café, virtually everyone comes here for one main reason: the famous Dutch apple pie (*appeltaart*). It completely lives up to the reputation. Served warm with a massive dollop of fresh whipped cream, it's thick, perfectly spiced, and has an almost cake-like crust that sets it apart. Pairing a slice with a fresh mint tea is pretty much mandatory. Because of its status and location, it's almost always buzzing with people--especially on market days--but the staff manages the perpetual queue remarkably fast. I'd say about 95% of the people were ordering the apple pie, so of course we had to get one to see what the hype was about. The apple pie is pretty unique, it's basically a big chunk of cooked apple topped with a sweet, crumbly cookie like crust. The flavor reminded me of those little brown biscuits you get as airplane snacks... basically Biscoff cookies. lol!!! Overall, you really taste the natural apple flavor along with that Biscoff like cookie flavor. The pie itself isn't very sweet, which I actually liked, but adding some whipped cream definitely brings up the sweetness and makes it even better. The setup is pretty straightforward: get in line, order and pay, pick up your food, then find your own seat. It's definitely a popular spot, so be prepared for the crowd and a bit of a wait.
