We came here looking forward to a nice meal and, to be fair, the food was very good. We chose to sit outside because the atmosphere was lovely at first, and everything started well. Unfortunately, the weather changed suddenly and it began raining heavily -- literally like someone had turned on a faucet What was most disappointing was the staff's response. Instead of helping while our food and table were getting soaked, several staff members simply stood there laughing as we were trying to manage everything ourselves. No one offered to help move plates, drinks, or anything inside. When we went in and asked for a table indoors, we were told they didn't want to seat us inside because we had already ordered outside -- despite the fact that we had barely started eating and hadn't even paid yet. It felt incredibly dismissive and lacking in basic hospitality. Good food alone doesn't make up for poor service. A little common sense and customer care in that situation would have made a huge difference. read more

My husband and I had dinner here. The service was mediocre (took us ten minutes to get someone's attention for the check), but it was nice to have long periods of being able to talk without interruption. They have two outdoor tables that are more private, indoor seating, and the general seating under the umbrellas in the street, but that is quite tight. I had a salad and a pesto pizza. The pizza crust was very thin, but had very little sauce and it was unevenly distributed. The flavor on the pizza was bland and I added a lot of salt and parmesan to try to get it to have some flavor. The ambiance of the place was nice, especially the outdoor seating. read more

Stopped for a glass of wine here prior to going out. We had a big lunch and thought we would just get a small item to share. Turns out the share platter was quite big and we couldn't finish it. A nice little cafe in one of Melbournes famous lane way cafes. The place was packed and the food others were eating looked good. They have a bid selection of pasta dishes, pizza, starters and desserts. We said after leaving that it's will be on our list to return here for a nice pasta meal on one of our next trips to Melbourne. I would recommend it for sure. read more

Walking in the tourist and local crowds of Degraves Street, and hungry for everything, Cafe Andiamo cured the search. What more better than to fill on a pasta dish: Andiamo Pasta?! Upon taking the order at the open door front, we were seated at the outside tables. Still water and cups and cutlery were provided within minutes. Andiamo Pasta = This creamy white wine sauce glistened throughout the entire penne pasta dish lingering evenly with sauteed mushrooms, capsicums, chicken breast pieces, pesto and a bit of cracked pepper. It was eaten with not a last drop of sauce in the plate. Wouldn't mind eating round 2 of this flavorful dish. If and when I come back, I'm due to try their other entrees and desserts. read more

Well, I believe that I have now been to all of the cafes on Degreaves Street, though I am not entirely sure which one is the better or not. Anyway, this place is okay, but then again being on Degreaves Street it does tend to be somewhat touristy, and does get pretty packed, especially with the early morning breakfast crowds. Actually, it gets packed with the all day lets have a coffee crowds, though I usually do find a place to sit. However, they do do a decent benedict, and also a nice ravioli. read more

The setting for Cafe Andiamo could not be much better. Degraves Street pretty much epitomises one focal part of the Melbourne experience. Despite it being a tourist hotspot, Cafe Andiamo delivers quite tasty food (perhaps better than you would expect because of its location). That is not to say it is anything exceptional but don't rule it out just for being a tourist spot. They do pretty good pastas and pizzas that won't break the bank. They also have reasonably priced drinks. The service is also pretty good despite them being rushed off their feet for entire shifts at a time. If stuck for ideas for dinner or lunch or if you want to show someone what Melbourne is about then you Cafe Andiamo is definitely an option. read more

Food: We visited for lunch and both order pasta dishes. The food is a little pricey, but is nice quality and the portions are fairly generous. Service/Atmosphere: It obviously has the huge bonus of being on the iconic Degraves street, the epitome of Melbourne laneway dining. It offers a lively environment and a casual dining experience. Seating is a little cosy, but fine for a quick lunch. Service was very attentive and I was impressed with this. Would I recommend it: I'm not a fan of Degraves street on the whole, as I always feel you are paying somewhat for the experience and less so for the food, however, of all the cafes and restaurants there, this is definitely one of the better ones. It seems that whenever I'm in Melbourne, Degraves street seems to act like a rather strong magnet pulling me towards its busy, tourist filled eateries. I've been a few times to Cafe Andiamo for breakfast and have been quite impressed. Service seems to be of grave importance here, with food and coffee both coming out in very quick fashion. All staff seem to be well mannered and helpful too. The food is of a good breakfast stature and whilst you're not guaranteed something over the top spectacular for breakfast, simplicity sometimes wins, as it does here. The second time of venturing here (almost a year later than the first), I indulged in a delicious breakfast titled the 'El Classico'. The coffee was great as well, I had two by the time I stood to leave. The only thing that I guess one could be a bit pedantic about is the rush and hastiness of Cafe Andiamo. Quiet? Perhaps during the first 20 minutes of opening in the morning, but apart from that, no, most definitely not. All up though, a reliable and good choice down Degraves street for breakfast, on any day of the week. (Oh how I wish there were more little cafe's in Adelaide open 7 days a week!) read more

On the popular, busy, touristy Degraves st., is this spot I decided to have breakfast at. I got a black coffee and ordered the il Grande special. The dish consisted of two very crispy fried eggs, large buttered toast, hash brown filet (like you'd get at McDonald's in the US) baked beans and bacon. I devoured the bacon and eggs, had some of the toast, passed on the tomato saucey baked beans, skipped most of the hash brown as it felt pre-packaged. My total was just under $21. This is my go to place on the street, and where I frequented often when I was around the area. With time to kill and having skipped dinner and regular being on Degrave St so I have vowed to eventually eat at all its cafes at least once, Tuesday night I found myself at Cafe Andiamo. Having a sweet spot for Lasagna, perhaps my #2 behind chicken parmas, and seeing it on the menu I went for it - but was disappointed that it was by itself and a salad would have to be ordered separately, well okay I decided. The lasagna was good: the meat saucy and the pasta melty and all of it nice and hot but not so much as to burn your mouth. But. But it was a modest portion I thought. The salad rounded it out mostly, but its not the same. I also ordered an iced-chocolate, it wasn't so good being room temperature and a little powdery in taste. A big serve of the Lasagna could get this a 4 out of 5, but the negatives just stack up against I'm afraid to be a 2.5 or 2.75 if I could award such. read more

I had a quick breakfast at Cafe Andiamo last week and it did the trick, but didn't wow me. The coffee was a little on the bitter side, and while I enjoyed the novelty of my salmon on waffles, the dish lacked that little something to make it pop. Service was helpful an unobtrusive, but felt a little rushed, even on a weekday morning. Tables are jammed in together, so you'd best hope you like whatever's on your neighbour's place and their topic of conversation. The highlight of Andiamo was its people watching spot - right on a lane filled with busy commuters. My meal was just fine, good but not great. In the middle of Degraves St, one of the laneways Melbourne is famous for, Andiamo's is doing a pretty good job. This can be a bit touristy, but at 8am Sunday morning in the city there aren't many good options open. It's a pretty standard cafe menu with an Italian influence. The cafe is a cozy size and the tables are small and aren't too close together. It was about a third full and my coffee and food came out nice and quick. Specials board included some yummy sounding options for lunch, Gorgonzola & proscuitto pizza and Veal shanks, sounds good for winter, but I was there for breakfast, so I had a flat white in a mug ($3.8) and the BLET ($10.5). There are plenty of eggy options for breakfast, but I was disappointed to find out that they don't use free range eggs. This is the main reason for my three stars. The waiter was happy to swap out the egg for mushrooms when I asked, and there was no extra charge for this. Nice, but I would have preferred happy chicken eggs. My BLET was Bacon, Lettuce (actually baby spinach), Egg (or rather mushrooms!) and Tomato, with a real tasting mayo. It was a huge partially deconstructed turkish bread, and I couldn't finish it. Pretty good value. Coffee was nice and hot and with a love heart artwork, a little on the bitter side of flavour but still good. I would come back, under the same circumstances, early morning breakfast in the city, and maybe to try the shanks. read more

It is very hard to choose where to go in Desgrave street. So many tasty options not to mention how difficult it can be to figure out which tables belong to which restaurant! We went with andiamo. It is a classic Italian menu with lots of pizza and pasta options. We were there for lunch so I went with the vegetarian sauce and penne. Went around 11:30pm however is not lunchtime, so we had to wait for 30mins. Order 2 pasta, pizza and Chicken parmigiana. Pasta sauce was very rich and oily, pizza was too soft and not crispy. I use to really enjoy coming here, they had a beautiful chicken dish served with lovely mashed potatoes and green beans. We were regulars. Then they changed their menu:( I went there craving my favourite dish, ordered it and to my surprise was served crappy chicken with chips and salad - the same kind of dish you can get anywhere in Melbourne. And they didn't even change the name of it so I ordered it without knowing they had downgraded the dish! Haven't returned since and won't until it's back on the menu. read more

I had El Clasico for breakfast this morning. That consists of two thick pieces of toast, plenty of thick bacon, two poached eggs (cooked just right) (choice of scambled, poached or fried), tomato, and plenty of well done mushrooms. $12.50. Arrived very quickly and waiting staff efficient and friendly. I have been a fan of this place for a reliable if unspectacular breakfast for many years. I also had a big cappuccino that arrived in a large friendly red mug.($4.20) The only downside this morning was the cold breeze that tended to whip through the place occasionally. read more

First off, the food is bland. Which is incredible. It's an Italian restaurant, and somehow they've made the food bland, which is a skill in itself I suppose. You'd be better off with a tin of canned spaghetti. The glasses looked dirty and unwashed, same with the plates and cutlery. But, worse than that, the staff are unprofessional, rude, and unable to remember an order past a glass of water. Once I was done and had paid, one of the waitresses chased me down the street because she hadn't seen me pay, dragged me back, and didn't even offer an apology. Don't waste your time here. Great food, good beer, wonderful service, fantastic location in one of the most happening laneways in downtown Melbourne. Restaurant doesn't have a restroom in house and they give you the key to walk down a few doors and around the corner to the ladies. It's a little sketchy. I was there at night, and there were a bunch of men milling around smoking, lots of garbage cans lying around and a bad smell in that alley. The restroom itself was fine though. read more

The food: I eat fettucine with prawns in a garlic, chilli with olive oil sauce: the prawns had no taste al all!!!! the fetucine was ebbed in so much olive oil that i need to balance it with the wine in order no to stay nauseate! I arrived alone to dinner on a saturday night at 21.40 and ask for a table inside they told me it was not possible because they were going to start cleaning it although there were people eating there. With some resistance I accepted staying out near a heater. While I was eating the heater was taken off. Its winter it was like 3 degrees! They had seat me near a heater from another restaurant that was about to close!! The manager was very very rude in his indifference for my dissatisfaction. Andiamos is my favourite restaurant to dine at! My boyfriend and I come to Cafe Andiamos all the time due to the amazing food, great 5 star coffee and customer service. The atmosphere is so beautiful all year round, sitting at Andiamos on a rainy day makes for a perfect date spot! I recommend anyone coming to Melbourne to sit down at Andiamos and have a coffee !
