Lovely quaint place with quick, efficient service. Depending on how you like pastrami on rye with slaw, you'll enjoy this or just find it ok. I was the latter because I was hoping for more of a Katz's experience with really tender and moist pastrami, more of a saucy slaw, and a softer rye bread. But if you're not as picky, this is a hearty meal that should keep you fueled for the rest of the day. Still would recommend and to try the other dishes.
Was craving breakfast in the area and saw how this spot had plentiful reviews, so we paid a quick visit to grab a bite. There's an interior and exterior area for seating. The inside feels like a little cafe, with a long table for people to be seated next to one another. I ordered the Lox and Potato Latkes for $22 AU and it was...pretty good! The house cured salmon had a sturdier texture to it and its smokey flavor comes through really well. The potato latkes are rather dry but with the eggs becomes an easier eat. I like how there's a lot of varied flavor profiles on one dish - personally I think the dish could be cheaper, but its overall flavor was still worth it. PROS: - seating available inside and outside - cozy interior that feels like a cafe - plentiful dish, pastry, sandwich + more options - dishes have varied flavor profiles packed in CONS: - price point could be a bit lower
A cute little coffee-sandwich shop channeling the N.Y. subway-hence the name. Tucked away in a little alley, they feature N.Y. style bagel (pretty authentic) as well as eggs and a few other breakfast goodies. When you travel, it's nice once in a while to get a taste that's just aa bit familiar and this great spot did the trick for us on day 10 of our Australian holiday. We popped in just a few minutes after their 7:30 am opening and got a little table tucked just under the stairs. We each got a bagel with cream cheese and an orange juice-excellent quality. While we sat and munched away, lots of people came in for their morning coffee to go. The staff greeted many of these regulars by name-so it's definitely that kind of place. We thought it was really good and a nice quick and easy breakfast.
Great little place in a back alley in Melbourne CBD. We had break here a couple of days in a row as it was good and we both had a bagel craving. The food was good with plenty of variety and fresh and delicious. The coffee was also really good. We shared a Ruben bagel with Pastrami sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. It was both good and satisfying and was just what we needed to get out day started. With a side serve of potato latkes and sour cream to top it off. The staff were friendly and helpful and eager to help. I would come back here again for sure great little place for breaky or lunch.
What's not to like!? Best breakfast ever! The bearded staff at the front of the house gets the Most Enthusiastic Person of the Year award super friendly guy. Now... the menu! Reminds me of a Brooklyn deli menu. Simple yummy food. Bagels and latkes mm yes please! My hubby and I shared a lox everything bagel and lox latkes. Cream cheese shmear piled high on a crunchy sweet bagel. Hubs had a Texas Bloody Mary (breakfast of champions) and I had a Dunes & Greene sparkling wine. Love the casual atmosphere and the music. Prices are very reasonable. Communal tables and glass pitchers of water. Outdoor seating with patio umbrellas. I highly recommend this place for a nice breakfast or lunch.
Unpretentious place with excellent breakfast food and friendly service. We went there on a Tuesday morning. The place was about half full with people catching a quick cup of coffee and a bite before work. We were warmly greeted and told to sit anywhere that's open. We chose a small table in the corner. The menu was small but the items looked enticing. We started with the Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate served with a side of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Wow what a treat. Wonderful balance of chocolate, warm milk and we loved that it was just the right amount of sweetness. For breakfast we had the Savory Breakfast Board with house cured & smoked fish, smoked salmon, poached egg, horseradish cream fresh, dill schmear. Loved this dish. The house cured and smoked fish was off the hook and the smoked salmon was fresh with a beautiful shine. We also had the Shakshouka and pita. Wow another winning dish ! Three poached eggs served in a metal skillet on a bed of stewed tomato with toasted naan bread. The tomato sauce, eggs and garlic toasted pita went perfectly together. I'm not typically too tempted by sweet offerings at brunch. Pancakes, waffles, French toast and the like never sound as good to me in the morning as a sandwich, burger, soup or a big, bountiful salad. With something savory in mind, I decided to push a little outside my comfort zone and ordered the shakshuka eggs. Bowery To Williamsburg's take on this Israeli poached egg dish arrived with Merguez sausage, Persian feta, heirloom tomato salad, a delightfully spicy tomato sauce and a couple of toasted pita triangles to sop it all up with. It was gigantic! And delicious! I'd surely come back to sample the bagels and sandwiches. And next time, I'll know to bring cash, since that's the only form of payment they accept.

One large table with only a few smaller 2 or 4 seaters available. Cool New York vibe. Coffee, long black, was hot and decent but skip hot chocolate here ours was tepid and bland. The sandwich bread quality was good overall - exception being the bagels are half sized and of a different texture compared to the emulated NYC style. The Reuben was generously portioned with decent cheese, kraut and sauce- beef was a tad chewy. Mustard and pickles were to end! Some sandwiches are served with pretzels- skip that if possible, they seem like snack bag stuff from Aldi. Staff was genuine and available, but a bit too busy. High rating because the food quality.
We were visiting from east coast US, and somehow found ourselves eating "NY-inspired" brunch (go figure) at B2W, located in one of Melbourne's many charming alleyways. Recommend trying: 1. Shakshuka baked eggs - YUM! Nice bold flavor in the tomato broth and a good portion. Didn't care for the pita bread - wish it was challah to complete the "NY" theme. 2. Mofo (dark) hot chocolate - rich and high-quality. 3. Fried chicken and waffle - the spiced butter and chipotle dressing really enhanced the dish. Stick with the waffle; don't sub for cornbread like I did. Service was friendly and accommodating for my group of 10. Food came out quick and as ordered. Overall, a solid brunch choice in the Flinders Street/Federation Square area!
The first day in Australia, I was craving a big, hearty sandwich, a rarity in Japan. A quick Google search led me to Bowery to Williamsburg. The name suggests a connection to the street or bridge in NYC. Am I correct? Located in the alley between Flinders and Collins, parallel to Russell, it was a bit unexpected to find this eatery here. With plenty of tables on the patio and inside, the atmosphere was inviting. Being alone, I didn't want to occupy a larger table, so I decided to grab my order to go. After glancing over the menu, my eyes locked on the 'Reuben,' thinking 'this can't go wrong.' The staff were kind and friendly. Despite not dining in, they allowed me to sit and wait at a table. After a few minutes, I received my order and rushed back to the hotel because I couldn't wait! Excitement led me to open the box like a treasure chest, revealing a huge sandwich - the portion I had been searching for. In Japan, where I live, the general trend is to reduce portions to maintain prices rather than increase prices to keep portions consistent in the face of inflation. Now you understand how crucial this is. Another crucial aspect - the taste was on point. With a generous portion of meat, it dominated the experience along with the sourness from the pickled cabbage. It was a bit too sour for my taste, but I assume that's how a Reuben usually tastes. Overall, I was really pleased with this place and would love to come back again. read more

The brisket was fabulous! As an American at first I was going to pass on this meal but the server recommended it. I'm glad she did! The eggs complemented the brisket nicely. Great breakfast spot! read more

Hello, my absolutely newest favourite breakfast/brunch place in Melbourne! I had the savoury board which had cured salmon, pickles, tomatoes etc, and you get a choice of bagel and a schmear that goes with it (I picked cinammon raisin bagel with peanut butter praline schmear). Holy moley I was BLOWN AWAY but how AMAZING each element on the plate go so well together. It was like explosion after explosion in my mouth. So delicate and subtle but so bold and punchy. The soft buttery praline schmear worked so well with the tang in the cured fish, the sourness and punch in the horseradish beetroot was crying tears of joy in the softness of the bagel. I was in heaven. The key lime pie was great as well. Could do without the marshmallow pillow on top, but the pie itself was divine. Oh, the place is great too, love the branding. The coffee ain't bad either. Get there early as it packs out quick - we circled the block half an hour early to secure a seat. read more
Little hidden gem! From the moment we walked in the employees were very friendly and attentive throughout our time there. We did not have to wait very long to get our food. Very nice, clean and aesthetically pleasing. The bagels we had were delicious & flavorful. & not to mention their peanut butter hot chocolate - not too sweet, just right! read more

Bowery to Williamsburg is as close as you can get to a New York City style deli in Australia. The pastrami is lean, thinly sliced, and piled high with Russian dressing. It's the best sandwich I've had in Melbourne. For a bit more you can get some pretzels and a pickle and a side and I suggest you try the broccoli if it's on the menu. 5 stars alone for pastrami! Great spot for lunch in the CBD. read more

Yes, the sandwiches are amazing. They're piled high and come with a deli pickle and a handful of pretzels for an extra $4. You'll feel like you've eaten a brick - in a good way, honest! At breakfast my pick is an onion bagel with schmere and a potion of hot smoked salmon. At lunch I actually skip the sandwiches (*GASP*) and instead keep it relatively light with a mixed salad plate. Coffee from Padre and milk from St David's Dairy makes this a legitimate spot for the coffee nerds amongst us. There are Pour-overs and French press options too if you want to truly embrace the Brooklyn. The fitout here is amazing and everything is executed in a clever way. It's hard not to love it, especially because they serve their coffee with a little Hershey Kiss! read more
Had the Reuben today after enjoying the bagels and coffee here on several occasions. I hate to play the patriotic card (not really) but Sydney has the better version of this staple American sanga. That's right, I cast my vote for the best Reuben in Oz as coming from a place called Reuben & Moore (various locations in Sydneytown). Better bread, pickles on the actual sandwich, more mustard (Bowery version had practically no mustard) and the corned beef way saltier & tastier. I have put down the gauntlet. But surely it needs to now be confirmed by a Sydney-visiting Melbournite, which has more chance of happening than a full day of sun down here ;-) read more
Do I dare say it, but is Bowery to Williamsburg better than Katz's? It may be my man flu, but yes, I think it is. There it is, I said it. I've been wanting to come here for soooo long, and just clicked its a minute from my new apartment. Score! I went the Reuben, with a side of Mac & Cheese take away ($17), and along with service, the sandwich was a perfect melt in your mouth reminder of my second favourite city in the world! Not the cheapest, but I've saved the second half of my sandwich for later it's that big! Can't wait to try breakfast! Fun Fact - inside even looks just like the NYC subway read more
Stopped here on a Sunday around 11 am to get a quick takeaway of their Mac & cheese. As an American living in Melbourne I was looking for some comfort food, and I found it! The Mac & cheese was really good. The cheese isn't really sharp which I like, there was a golden brown top which was incredible! While I waited for the takeaway every plate of food I saw go out looked incredible! I will certainly be back. read more

Had the peanut butter hot chocolate (you add a Reese's Pieces to the hot chocolate) - F*** me, why have I never thought to do that?! Followed that up with the daily special which was seafood gumbo and grits topped with poached eggs. Top notch! But the piece de resistance was the southern fried chicken and waffles. Absolutely amazing! Chicken was juicy and tender. They didn't skimp on the maple syrup and the spiced butter was freaking amazing! In all - it has that cool little laneway vibe you can only find in Melbourne, great staff and amazing food. Try it! read more

Best pumpernickel bagel in Melbourne! House cured beetroot infused Lox with dill smear and capers transported me to Alphabet City instantly! The Steak and Fried Eggs and Baked Bean dish were bang on too. Hero of the day was the cold drip coconut water coffee. Don't go expecting a Big Apple serve though, it barely half filled the ice topped glass (!) Service was ok, bit of attitude from the waitstaff and a smile wouldn't go astray (the guys inside are champions though) but the food helps you see past that. Will be back again real soon! read more
Who doesn't love a bagel, right? I mean, it's like three slices of white bread in one PLUS they're yummy and flavoursome and they come in different flavours. Bagels are basically the ultimate bread. Am I right? (I am!) I came to BTW because it was recommended to me by a Melbourne local. I wanted to have a quick breakfast, a good coffee and get some work done. I loved the venue the second I walked in. It felt very NYC (which I am aware is deliberate), but it wasn't cheesy or overdone. I set myself up at the communal table and looked over the menu. I was there to get my bagel fix, but I was almost drawn away from the bagels but the other menu. Mezcal cured salmon with zucchini and potato latkes with horseradish, fennel and asparagus? GET IN ME. But I resisted and went with a bagel. (Side note, someone next to me ordered it and looked freaking to die for. Part of me really regrets my decision now.) Onion bagel with jalapeno and dill schmears with a side of warm smoked salmon, plus a coffee and an apple juice. The juice was totally yum. Pressed is the way to go! The bagel arrived and it wasn't what I expected. I wouldn't say deconstructed (so totally hipster, I know) but it was served so I could build it as I wanted. In theory, that's awesome because it makes I can have all of the cream cheese, but the downside of that is once I'd had a sip of juice, took a photo or two (I know, I'm THAT person), my bagel had started to harden. I was expecting a bagel loaded with two types of cream cheese and salmon and then toasted, I think I was just expecting something a little different is all. That being said, it was all very yum and I loaded it up and chomped away as I tried to work, eat, talk to my friend and drink my coffee all at the same time. The decor and vibe are 100% wicked. If I hadn't have had a mid-morning appointment, I would have sat there until lunch and then eaten again, just drinking tea and coffee and working away. Bravo, BTW. You're killing it. read more
Now that I've been to the Bowery and back, all I want is to go again. It's taken me a long long time to finally getting around to trying it but, tell you what, it was worth the wait.. What do they generally say? Absence makes the heart grow fonder? Hmm.. Hang on.. I don't think that's related to food or is it? Bowery to Williamsburg reminds me of NYC's Bowery subway station and I couldn't shake off that nostalgic feeling of missing the land of the free and home of the brave when I was there. I love the place (yes the US too but, right now, I'm referring to Bowery). The staff are great, the coffee is good, the menu provides a broad range of options to choose from, the food is really good and some might also say it's bagelicious!.. The decor is cool too and I love the subway sign w/ the J & Z lines on it. I can't explain it but I always think about Becker when I look at it. I'll definitely be back and I have a feeling it's gonna be very very soon... Can't wait to try one of their pies too.. Sour Cherry or Pecan... Hmm.. Anyone? read more

Another Melbourne laneway was explored today with brunching away at b2w. Tucked away in Oliver's lane is this unseeming ny style cafe with ample outdoor and indoor seating with the choice being long communal tables. Food and drinks menuw are on postcards depicting a U.S. Located staircase. Specials are on the chalkboard and for a mere 22 bucks you can have 12 hours slow cooked pork, poached eggs, and a range of things. Plenty of options and the coffee is one of the best ive had. My brunch comrade and I got two cappucinos, the breakfast board and the salmon shakshouka. The cappuccinos come with a hersheys kiss each and are chocolatey creamy and large sized. #winning The salmon eggs shashouka is massive with four poached eggs in sweet tomato sauce with crispy oiled pita. The smoked salmon goes deliciously well with the eggs and tomato though the tomato base is quite sweet and would be nicer with some herb or cheese flavours. The addition of smoked salmon and peeled zucchini/cucumber? (The citrus flavour is quite refreshing) and served with pita instead of sourdough is definitely unique. My brunch companion's breakfast board looked dismal in comparison with a bagel, some butter and granola, but he seemed to enjoy it. The bill came to 49.50 for the two of us and we were full. No rush to leave and attentive staff. Coffees for 3.80 which is a nice change from most places where coffees start at 4 or even 4.50 on the weekends. Met some work peeps here for a rare trip to the city ('they' don't let us out much...) and it proved to be yet another one of the many reminders of why I miss working in the bright lights so much. I was welcomed by a friendly waitress who was happy to chat and she buzzed about taking orders for coffee. The coffee was good but I think something went wrong with my second cup...wasn't quite as nice as the first but I still guzzled it down. My beetroot and rye bagel with eggplant more than made up for the average second cup though. Fresh, filling and down-right delicious! I'm going back. Soon. read more
Bowery To Williamsburg is one of Melbourne's many eateries tucked away in a lane way. Bowery is styled after a New York subway cafe. They do some really good sandwiches -- I tried the reuben and was happy with it. When ordering sandwiches, you have a choice of just the sandwich or the sandwich accompanied by a small salad, pretzels, and a pickle. Their salads are creative -- I tried one with pumpkin, white sesame seeds, black wild rice, and several greens. The salads are served in small glass jars besides the sandwiches. read more

Great vibe, quick service, simply delicious food. Popped in before 10am for a quick bite before my flight. Having spent a lot of time in Brooklyn I wanted to see what they had to offer. I was really impressed with the menu and operation. They had all sorts of New York classics on deck from pastrami sandwiches to lox bagels all with their own little twist. Very creative spot with awesome coffee (like most places in Melbourne). I ordered the Chicken and Waffles which literally came out in under 5 minutes while the place was relatively busy. Waffles were delicious, Chicken deboned thighs nice a crispy with a chipotle butter and fresh maple syrup. Fresh squeezed OJ was also refreshing. Next time I'd def get a pastrami or lox bagel and a coffee to go and eat as I walked through the alley ways of Melbourne. read more
I Iike it, After going to bagelicious, Glicks and a few other places, This high end cafe really hits the mark. I got the beef salami bagel this time around, with the puy lentils as a side. I've yet to try, and still wanting to, the peanut butter hot chocolate, The ruben, which everyone raves about, and of course their coffee, which comes from padre. Padre is exceedingly popular these days. I should try the Ruben as that would actually fill me up. But its a cool layout and design and well worth the efforts of all concerned. It's busy, and it also delivers well on it's simple concept. Great quality fresh food, being pumped out by great chefs, and the team runs this joint together well.
