I went to this restaurant because of one review that said: Best Chinese Food in Roanoke and many other good reviews from reviewers with no photos of themselves and with very few reviews done. And wow was I disappointed. First of all the location of the restaurant is not in a nice area. But that is no problem because sometimes you can find restaurants with great food in not so nice areas. The interior of the restaurant looked presentable with booths with table cloths and a mini Chinese Market next to the cashier counter. The menu looked fantastic, even with Hibachi. The lady who greeted me and took my order was very nice and friendly. The food was served in real plates with real silverware not plastic ones, and was brought to my booth by the lady who took my order at the counter. The place was clean. I ordered the Four Triple Combination, which had shrimps, scallops, beef and chicken. And came with Fried Rice. The dish looked very good when it came out. In fact too good to be true. When I started eating it I first noticed that the sauce was not cooked well enough with the food items, the chicken was tasteless, the beef was tough, the shrimps and scallops were better but very few, and the broccoli were frozen broccoli and many were still cold in the dish. Then when I went to taste the Fried Rice that looked so good, it had a horrible taste. Like if the wok where they cooked it had been washed with dish soap but not rinsed well enough. That really got me. I stopped eating and left the restaurant. It was the worst Chinese Restaurant that I have ever eaten at. What a bad sensation. I hope you learned something from this review like I have, and though I don't like to write bad reviews, I feel obligated to do so because I don't want any others to go through the horrible dining experience that I went through at this restaurant.

I arrived at the restaurant in my pearl white Lexus and was lucky to find some empty parking spaces in their small but very convenient parking lot, since most of their business is takeout. The restaurant manager greeted me at the counter and graciously allowed me to go over the menu until I found what I wanted. Their menu had been upgraded since the last time I was there and now is printed in glossy paper with a few colorful photographs to give it that distinguish look so rare to find in many Chinese restaurants of this nature. I ordered from the Pork section of the menu their Roast Pork with Broccoli. It came with Plain Fried Rice. And I also ordered two Roast Pork Egg Rolls to have as appetizer. I paid with my Google Pay and received my receipt which was in both English and Chinese. While I was waiting I observed how well organized and efficient the cooks and the entire staff worked together as a team. The Roast Pork Egg Rolls were so soft and tasty in the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The Roast Pork and fresh Broccoli tasted wonderfully delicious. I highly recommend this Chinese restaurant especially for takeout food or for those times when you feel like dining in and don't have too much time to spare.

After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Szechuan Restaurant in South Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. As I was walking towards the restaurant after parking my car, since I hadn't had an opportunity to research it to find out if it was good, I asked one of their customers who was also headed that way and he replied: "After more than 40 years of being their customer, I haven't found a place with better Chinese food." What an outstanding live testimony to the place, I thought to myself. Then as I got closer, Their windows were displaying framed articles about the restaurant. Inside, the owner was seated at his open office located in front of the restaurant, and the walls around him were inundated with framed awards and photos related to the restaurant. The owner, very friendly and hospitable, greeted me, and explained how since Covid they no longer had table service. But you would look at the menu, order and pay there, and then the food would be taken to your table in take out containers by a young lady server. As I went through their beautiful and extensive menu, he was able to notice that I was not too familiar with many of the items on the menu, so he helped me by asking me some questions of my likes and providing some recommendations. I ended up ordering a Coke to drink. A Vegetable Spring Roll as appetizer, as well as a Scallop Roll from the Sushi Bar. And as my main entrée I ordered the Pork Szechuan Style with their Fried Rice. And for dessert they had only three options Cheesecake, Chocolate Cheesecake, or Donuts. I went for the Chinese Donuts because I always wanted to try them. After ordering and paying with my credit card, I went to their dining room to look for a table to sit at. I picked a booth next to a window to provide enough natural light to be able to photograph the food nicely. The server brought me a plastic bottle of coke with a styrofoam cup with ice. The dining room was very nice and had the most beautiful and elegant fish tank that I've ever seen in a restaurant. It's a pity that they hadn't return back to regular table service since Covid is now under control. While waiting for my food to be prepared, I walked over to the Sushi counter to watch the Sushi Chef prepare my Scallop Roll. Finally, the friendly young lady brought my food to my table on a tray which she placed on the table. Both her followed-up to see how I found the food and to see ifvI needed anything else. Others came with the intention of eating in but when they found out the situation, they ordered for Take Out instead. And a family who came to eat in, left when they found out the dining situation. The dining experience is not the same eating out of plastic containers. It's like drinking wine out of a plastic cup is not the same as drinking it out of a Baccarat wine glass. I highly recommend that the owner return back to the normal way of operating a restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is much too beautiful and the food much too exquisite not to do so.

And China Lite in Northwest Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Little did I know that this unseen, hole in the wall, Chinese Restaurant would have one of the best Chinese food that I've ever had in Roanoke, Virginia. It was already late at night, around 9:30pm and I worried if maybe the food would not be as fresh because it was already so late at night. It was delivered around 10:15pm by a very pleasant Door Dasher. It came inside a simple plastic bag and the container kept it real hot and smelling amazingly delicious. Inside with the food, it had several little plastic bags of Soy sauce, Duck sauce, and one of Hot sauce. It also contained napkins, a white plastic fork, and a Fortune Cookie. Everything seemed perfect. I could notice the care that the people working in this restaurant had put in, while preparing my delivery order. When I opened the container, to my surprise, it contained four of the most plumpiest Chicken on a Stick that I have ever seen, and cooked just right. The Pork Fried Rice was cooked to perfection with actual small chunks of pork that you could see and taste.The taste and texture was just like a good Chinese Pork Fried Rice should taste. The chicken was juicy, tender, and cooked just right. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the food. Needless to say the amount was plenty to more than fill me up, but it was so good that I ate it all, including the amazing Egg Roll. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Chinese Restaurant for their wonderful food and attention to detail in packing it up with care and all the condiments you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. And I look forward to visiting the restaurant in person to have more of their wonderful food and an outstanding dining experience.

I invite you to go read my review of that one and view my photographs after you finish reading this one, and you will immediately notice the great difference between the two. Just go to The Red Palace Valley View. This Red Palace Tanglewood is located next to Kroger Supermarket at the Tanglewood Mall. When I arrived I parked my pearl white Lexus in the parking lot located on the right side of the restaurant and then went walking to the front door. The building structure of this restaurant didn't look as magestic as the other one, nor the entrance either. As I entered there was a nice size fish tank with the water not too clean the Gold fishes color white.Then there was a nice looking counter station behind which was a friendly young gentleman cashier and To Go order taker and the place for customers to pick up their Take Out orders. The counter had an impressive golden Buddha on top. A friendly young lady came to greet me and take me to my table. She took my drink order and told me to go ahead and enjoy the Buffet. I ordered a Dr. Pepper to drink which was brought to me with very little ice and I was never asked if I wanted a refill. The few ladies filling up the trays got in the way of the customers, without even smiling or saying excuse me and would put a new tray of food but then would throw the old one right in with the fresh one and Mixed them together. The Buffet stations themselves were old and refurbished. Most of the food looked luckwarm from having been sitting there too long. The shrimps looked tiny, as well as other of the food items. The fried rice lacked color, ingredients, and flavor. The sauces were watered down. And there were not to many food items to pick from. The items lacked flavor and even though they were edible, they were not enjoyable to anyone who knows what genuine, high-quality Chinese food is all about. Even the elephant ears with the desserts were stale. What a difference from the Valley View Red Palace, which is actually not associated in anything with this one. If anything I got from trying this one out was not to ever return and to let all those who read my review know that it's not worth it. Save yourself from going through a horrible dining experience and go dine somewhere else.

I think that this place has quite a following; especially those who were fans of the original Cafe Asia in Blue Ridge. It's pretty much crowded to capacity every single night. Their Chinese food is probably the best in the valley--or at the very least tied with China Wok for that title. I've never been really disappointed in that area. The restaurant is SMALL. I mean, the owners should seriously consider relocating. Every visit leaves you waiting for 20-30 minutes for a table...in the parking lot. Seriously. There's no lobby/foyer to speak of. Maybe 2-3 people can hang out there, but everyone else is standing outside. The manager (I'm unsure of his name) is a funny and personable guy. He regularly makes rounds to ensure everyone is enjoying themselves and I can appreciate his concern. The sushi? Well...like many people, I only really eat sushi from Ben Gui's. In my opinion, it's the best in Roanoke. Cafe Asia's sushi seems to revolve around too many weird sauces and bizarre presentations; it's just really distracting. Their sushi just isn't great and like many sushi-lovers, I'm kind of picky. Of course, if you're never eaten here...seriously, check it out. Polite staff, very good chinese food, and an always-smiling manager are sure to make you feel at home. Just remember to bring a jacket, as you'll likely be waiting in the parking lot for a seat! =( read more

I have been going here for many years. They have an excellent sushi menu and a variety of Asian dishes. Service is always great in the dining area. We have been ordering takeout recently, due to the pandemic. Their service has also been excellent, fast and efficient. There are parking spaces at the front for pickup which helps a lot, too. The parking lot spaces are ample for many customers. Overall I am very happy with them. My favorite dishes include Beef Pho, Chicken Pad Thai, mango sticky rice, four treasures, and potstickers. read more

A bit expensive but we LOVE going here. The food is great, always fresh and if you sit on the bar you get to try out their crab salad for free. The specials are worth checking out even if you order something else because they can help keep costs down. The owner is super friendly and has always come and greeted us personally and asked about our experience. It makes us feel very at home that he always remembers us and makes sure everything is good. read more

So we have have come here a few times and the food is really good. Love the variety of food that you can choose from and it seems very fresh. I would have given 5 stars except the wait staff is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good one and then others you get someone just trying to get through the night. If I could afford to eat here every week, I would. The sushi is great, with delicious specialty rolls offering a variety of textures and flavors. I've gotten hot food a couple of times, and while those dishes have been good as well, I tend to stick with the sushi. read more

I absolutely love the Prawn Szechuan Style. All the dishes look great but I can't seem to pass over this dish. Order it just about every time. This is a very popular place so its busy. But any wait is richly rewarded. Keeps me coming back. read more

After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Cafe Asia, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. One day by searching the net I so happened to finally find it. I gave them a call right away to confirm that it was the original of Cafe Asia 2, and once confirmed, I made a commitment to go there for dinner that day. Before arriving I did my research and found out that it was founded by Feng Chen in 2008 "to offer autentic Asian cuisine for everyone to enjoy." I also found out that this first location in the Bonsack area of Roanoke County, offered a pan-Asian menu that included Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese dishes, alongside a sushi bar. And that due to the success of this family-owned business, the second location, Café Asia 2, opened on Electric Rd in 2013. When I arrived, I was surprised that it was located in the same strip mall as Sal's Italian Restaurant which I had reviewed some time ago. As I entered the restaurant the decor was not as modern as the second one but was still very clean and nice for its time. It had a very comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The Host gave me a very friendly and warm welcome and took me to my table. I noticed that decorating the place they had strips of picture frames with pictures of customers of the restaurant, almost like saying, we put our customers first. My server was also very friendly and helpful. He answered some questions I had about the extensive menu and I gave him my order. To start off with I had a Thai Iced Coffee. As appetizer I had a Sunflower Roll from the Sushi Bar. It had spicy lobster salad, mango, avocado, with soy paper. I walked to the Sushi Bar and watched the Sushi Chef make it for me. He was very friendly and appreciated me recording the event for my readers of this review. He came out with a Culinary Masterpiece. I really savored every bite. As my main entrée I had the Pad Thai Combination. It was so good. For dessert I had two: The Mango with Sticky Rice and the Combination Mochi Ice Cream (Mango & Strawberry). It was truly a memorable meal. In conclusion, I highly recommend this restaurant and clearly see the reason for its success. It has a beautiful decor and friendly atmosphere. A menu with a great variety of items. A wonderful Sushi Chef that can work wonders making culinary masterpieces. They use quality and fresh ingredients, and the Chef can also deliver wonderful dishes. All amounts to an extraordinary dining experience.

When I first arrived today, a friendly, young gentleman greeted me at the counter and allowed me to review their extensive menu, while he took the order of another customer who already knew what he wanted for a Take Out order. The long paper menu included color illustrations of some of the dishes and was very well organized and easy to understand and with reasonable prices for all menu items. What an extensive variety of dishes to choose from. I decided to go for one of their Chef's Specialties items in the menu, the number H8: Hawaii Five "O". It included diced chicken, pork, shrimp, and scallops, with mixed vegetables. It is normally served with white rice but I asked for fried rice instead for a little extra price that was under a dollar. To drink I had a bottle of Fruit Punch. I told the order taker that I would dine in and paid with my credit card making sure I left a reasonable tip. You could see it in his face that he was very grateful for the tip and he made sure to thank me for it verbally. It is nice when one is appreciated when one leaves a tip, and not taken for granted. It is in these little details that make a restaurant stand out from the rest. As I waited at the table of my choice for the food to be ready, I looked around and was impressed at how clean the small restaurant's dining area and kitchen were. The decorations consisted of a Chinese Calendar surrounded by what looked like school pictures of the owner's children. And the dining room walls were filled with what seem like artwork from their children. One could easily tell that the Family was the center of their lives. Many phone orders as well as customers came in to order Take Out and pick up their phone orders taken by the very efficient young gentleman who seemed to be the only one who spoke English. In the open kitchen in the back were a lady and two gentlemen cooking and preparing the orders. When my order was ready, the lady cook and whom I suspect was the co-owner together with her husband, one of the other cooks, personally brought me my meal in a square container with a loose cover on top so she could fill it with more food. You could clearly see the generous portions of the food. She put it on my table and uncovered the top. After I asked her how was the ordering process, she showed me the illustrated poster menu on the wall next to the counter, and very effectively explained how it worked. With this information, I went on to order the 6 Rangoons appetizer and for my main course I ordered the Special Small One Plate with 2 Items: the Hibachi Steak and the Sesame Chicken, with Fried Rice. And to drink I ordered a can of Dr. Pepper. After paying with my credit card, I was giving a beeper to let me know when my food was ready. After being called with the beeper and picking up my food at the pickup counter, I took it to the table where I had left my soda. The Rangoons came inside a bag. The outside of them were thin and crispy and the inside had soft cream cheese. The main course came in a Styrofoam clamp container. It was fully packed with generous portions of tender pieces of steak and sweet and tender sesame seeds chicken. The fried rice was enough, allowing the larger space for the delicious meats. Little did I know that this unseen, hole in the wall, Chinese Restaurant would have one of the best Chinese food that I've ever had in Roanoke, Virginia. It was already late at night, around 9:30pm and I worried if maybe the food would not be as fresh because it was already so late at night. It was delivered around 10:15pm by a very pleasant Door Dasher. It came inside a simple plastic bag and the container kept it real hot and smelling amazingly delicious. Inside with the food, it had several little plastic bags of Soy sauce, Duck sauce, and one of Hot sauce. It also contained napkins, a white plastic fork, and a Fortune Cookie. Everything seemed perfect. I could notice the care that the people working in this restaurant had put in, while preparing my delivery order. When I opened the container, to my surprise, it contained four of the most plumpiest Chicken on a Stick that I have ever seen, and cooked just right. The Pork Fried Rice was cooked to perfection with actual small chunks of pork that you could see and taste.The taste and texture was just like a good Chinese Pork Fried Rice should taste. The chicken was juicy, tender, and cooked just right. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the food. Needless to say the amount was plenty to more than fill me up, but it was so good that I ate it all, including the amazing Egg Roll.
