Had dinner here last night. Started with some escargot and fresh bread. Coq au vin was on special and it was perfect as I had wanted to try it and hadn't seen it on other menus in Paris. We needed a place to have lunch while we waited for our hotel room and this was this first café that caught our eye. While the staff was very nice we did fear we'd wandered into a bit of a tourist joint. Case in point: my Coke Zero cost nearly 7€! But we were jet lagged and needed food. My croque monsieur wasn't cheap either for a simple sandwich (16.5 €) but that can be the going rate in the U.S. too at some places like Ike's or Surf City Sandwiches. We were staying nearby and this place was always packed during the day so we thought we'd stop in for dinner. We came in close to closing but we got pretty good, pretty welcoming service. We got a couple draft beers and got the dozen escargot and French onion soup to start. Great flavors from the escargot-perfect texture, and deliciously garlicky, buttery goodness. The French onion soup had tons of cheese, crusty, crunchy bread, and it almost tasted like there was goat cheese in it, which I enjoyed. Our entree's were great. My bf got the fish and chips and they were light and crispy with a great tartar sauce, accompanied by salad and fries. My medium rare steak au poivre was cooked just right and the peppercorn sauce was absolutely amazing. It was like a delicious peppercorn gravy that I wanted to put on everything. Stopped by here for a quick lunch. Looked very busy every time I would pass by it so figured it would be good. Sits near the Opera Garnier. Ordered Cappuccino some wine and both were satisfying with my meal and light. I ordered their version of a Caesar salad that had some additional things on it than a typical Ceasar and loved it! Two of us randomly walked in while strolling along the boulevard. An ideal place to relax and people watch, it's clean and attractive enough, at a busy intersection with decent sidewalk seating. Stopped in here to grab something to eat while shopping. It was crowded, tiny tables. We sat in the tented awning area in the front. I had a Croque Madame and my husband had a Croque Poulet. It was quite good, and so was the wine (though I neglected to note what it was, sorry). I have no reason to complain. I attached pics, that's the best way to know what to expect. Our total with drinks was 38 euro. Our server Teddy was engaging, spoke English well and did not bat an eye at my poor Google Translate French. He told us he was going to Boston. I can see where some may find this establishment too busy and cold, but again in Paris, if you make any effort to speak French it warms up quickly. We stopped for a small snack. The mussels in cream sauce were very good, and the service attentive and friendly. The fries are a major star here. Cut on a bevel, they are wonderfully crisp and not greasy and act like a scoop. We made the lucky choice to ask for mayonnaise, and were rewarded with a mayonnaise of the House - rich aioli with a little mustard and curry mixed in. This is a terrible restaurant. Run, don't walk, the opposite direction from Café Olympia. Worst food to date since starting Yelp. I was wondering if my palate was just becoming very lazy or if really all the food here in Paris that I've been having was truly excellent. That question was answered when I came into Café Olympia. The food was the worst I've had in years. My plat du jour, Osso Bucco, was a cold lump they poured lukewarm sauce on-and didn't even bother heating up the noodles. The whole Meal was cold and fatty - a terrible combination and absolutely disgusting. I get sick to my stomach thinking about this meal we had last night. We enjoyed a couple drinks and the two wines I tasted with my friends were terribly sour and just like a bottle of been open for a decade. I had a rum drink that was interesting but it left me with a splitting headache- that is not normal. Then let's just add how rude they were. We were meeting friends and they would not seat at a table big enough for all of the group that was coming. Everyone arrived and it caused all sorts of trouble shuffling and coats and people squishing over trying to make room. The maître d' was absolutely hostile to our party. This is just a bad restaurant -maybe if your French it's okay for a drink only-but would not come here as a visitor or an American in Paris. read more

Based on the other people at the cafe, I think this place might be better for drinks. We didn't know and had food instead. This place was a nice 10 minute stroll from our hotel. Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered escargots and steak frites and a nice stein of Kronenberg. Snails were tasty pesto butter morsels of goodness. Steak frites was a nice cut of beef done exactly as ordered with crispy fries. Food was just so-so. The foie gras was too salty, the salmon steak that I randomly ordered was actually pretty good, and whatever my wife got - oh yeah the foie gras - she didn't really like. It was a little later on a Wednesday night when we ate here and we just decided to roll in and get it done. I knew that when they had like five different language menus it wasn't going to be that great. On a positive note, I saw our server walk out to a nearby trash can and place a well-packed bag on top of it. I asked him what that was about. He told me that each night they put out the sandwiches they couldn't sell so that the homeless people can eat them. That's awesome. For homeless people, that is. Wow!! Absolutely incredible food! As we arrived to Paris after a looooong flight from a Ibiza, Spain... my fiancé and I were looking for delicious, fast and a French style cafe! Cafe de 'Olympia was incredible. I loved the music themed style cafe and proximity to our hotel was amazing! Our waiter knew how to communicate with us Americans.. which always helps, haha! The only thing that made me feel a little weird ... I just wasn't very happy to see they had dog (canine) on their menu. It was one of the waiter's recommendations.. we started off with some shared the croque-monsieur which was the most tasty meal I've had in a long time and the spaghetti bolognese tasted so incredibly fresh and real ingredients . We finished it off with a ridiculous dessert of course, I can't even remember the name but was a raspberry tart type of dessert and a long chocolate cream filled soft piece of heaven! read more

THEY DONT RESPECT THE CLIENT i asked for a Cesar salad, and the salad was old , it smelled horrible , so i asked to please take it away and the check please. There cringed me another, and i said that i didn't asked fro another salad, so finally they cringed me the check. I didn't touched the second salad because i didn't asked for it. In the bill , i had to pay BOTH OF THE SALADS, even if i said that the first one was old, it smelled really bad , and they told me " is because you haven't tried i cesar salad in your life"..... My wife and I had were starving after a full day playing tourist so we unfortunately stopped off at this pitiful excuse for a restaurant after getting off Metro and before going back to hotel. I usually use Yelp but in this case we didn't but even then I have no idea how this place has 3.5 stars. I had the roasted salmon and my wife had the Quiche Lorraine. Her Lorraine was basically, not kidding, dry scrambled eggs with a mushy crust. The worst quiche we've ever tasted, even worse than a store bought one that was the previous worst. My Salmon was so bad I had to spit it out after first bite. It had an off smell to it and tasted terrible, I assumed it had gone bad. We each had one bite and immediately sent it back and they removed the plates. While we were finishing our wine we saw our waiter arguing with who must of been either the owner or manager for about 20 minutes. When we got the bill I was amazed to see that they didn't remove anything off the bill. I wasn't looking for any freebies but to take the plates away knowing that it was so bad and to still charge for it all is beyond belief. Waiter was fantastic and desperately needs to find a new job at a much better restaurant.the owner of this place needs to figure out what customer service and good food is. They're are so many fantastic restaurants here that to pay $65.00 for this swill is ridiculous. It was by far our worst meal on the entire vacation.it was so bad we told our hotel front desk and concierge how bad it was and they laughed and asked why we would go there.. We ate here on accident, and it turned out to be one of the best breakfasts I had while in Paris! After several days of pastry + coffee breakfasts, this girl was getting a little tired of the same ol' same ol'. I like a little protein in the AM, because I need a hefty breakfast so I'm not hungry all day. And as much as I hate to admit it, you can only eat so many croissant before you get sick of the buttery pastry! I ordered the "American breakfast", which consisted of a pastry, coffee, two eggs with ham, bread, and orange juice. I selected a regular croissant which was pretty good but not the best. The eggs and ham came with a small salad which was interesting, considering I don't usually eat greens at 9AM, but the flavors went so well together. The highlight of this meal however was the orange juice! When it arrived at our table I thought our waitress had made a mistake because it looked like pink grapefruit juice. I drank it anyways and after the first sip it was definitely orange juice but 10000x better than any orange juice you'll ever have in the states. It was light, sweet, almost fragrant, but still citrusy. I wonder what oranges they used because it was out of this world! (Wouldn't it be funny if it ended up being some artificial Tang-like crap? We had two orders of scrambled eggs, two chocolate croissants and fresh OJ for 47 euros or $52! They charged us for two omelettes - 13 euros each - instead of scrambled eggs and wouldn't change it. A friend of mine and I found this café after what seemed an awfully long time spent combing the streets in search of a reasonably priced, not-too-touristy bistro or brasserie where (a) we could sit outside, (b) she could have crêpes, and (c) I could have a vegetarian omelette. The Café de l'Olympia suited us to a tee. A very friendly bilingual waiter sorted us out with food and drink, providing a beer recommendation to my friend and taking note of my dietary restrictions (no gluten ingredients, no dairy, no garlic, and no black pepper). The mushroom omelette I ordered was HUGE--I was hungry but finished only half of it--and delicious, with a nice side salad and vinaigrette dressing; my friend thoroughly enjoyed her crêpes [one savory, (au fromage), and the other sweet (au banane et Nutella)]. The only downsides were that several nearby patrons were smoking on the patio--unavoidable in Paris--and my friend's small after-dinner Calvados cost 10 Euro, which was probably unavoidable as well. What a pleasure it was to find this restaurant. When we arrived at the front and tried to understand the French menu, a waiter standing outside immediately asked us (in very good English) if we were English, and quickly ran inside to collect English menus for us. Travelling with a fussy teenager, the menu looked acceptable, so we went inside to eat. The same waiter served us, and again, it was clear he was there to help make it a pleasurable experience for us. We ordered some food with his assistance, and it was actually served to us quite quickly (less than 10 minutes). The food was fresh, hot, and extremely tasty. My fussy teenager actually commented afterwards that this is one of his favorite restaurants. Coming from a kid that normally survives on pizza and chicken fingers, that is saying plenty!! Now, clearly this was a memorable experience for us, and we certainly plan to go back before our vacation is over. But I also wanted to make note of the effort our waiter made with every person he was serving. Observing him during the time we were in the restaurant, there were many English patrons in the restaurant, and he made extraordinary efforts to help them and make sure they were happy with their choice to eat there. What a pleasure to watch someone work who truly takes pride in their job, and pride in helping ensure satisfactory experiences for the customers. It was worth going here simply for the great food, but the unparalleled service was simply the 'icing on the cake'!! read more
