We had a great experience at this restaurant in 2017 and looked forward to being here again. Located near Arc de Triomphe, it's a fun location to sit outside and enjoy the views. We were seated quickly even though it was busy. Food was tasty and thoughtfully presented. I misunderstood the menu and had quite the learning experience with a plate of roasted leeks with chopped boiled egg. It was delicious and beautifully presented. It was our last night in Paris and we did not want to be out too late. Le General was right across from our hotel. Typical Paris cafe fare/ambiance here. As usual, the place to dine is on one of the outdoor tables so you can people watch, etc. I keep doing this to myself by ordering steak frites, knowing full well that the meat will be tough based on the relatively cheap price. When you eat within throwing distance of a major Paris landmark like the Arc de Triomphe there are some things you expect: like high prices and waiters who insist on speaking to you in English no matter what language you address them in. What you don't expect is literal rotten food, poor service, extra items on the bill, and a toilet that smells like it's never cleaned. I generally don't order fish and chips in a French restaurant but today was a fish day for me and fish and chips was the only entree they had under 20€ (barely). I got Fish Sticks! I kid you not. The salad was barely holding on and some of the romaine hearts were already rotten. The fries, which are usually so good in French restaurant were hardly average. The mulled wine, that the waiter recommended as a hot drink, was a sad excuse for a red wine heated up with cinnamon and a half an orange slice. Pitiful. My companion had a burger that was average at most but certainly not worth the 19€ price. Total cost 52€ but when we finally got the check, it was a good thing we looked it over before paying as they'd put someone else's drinks on as well for another 20€ When we asked about the toilets we were told only the handicap toilet was available. Awesome hotel. I will definitely come back to Le General Hotel. Front desk was amazing and very helpful with anything we needed. Their breakfast menu was always the same, but good. Amazing view as this is located 1 block down from the "arc de triumph". It is an outdoor cafe and offers classic French outside seating. The food is mostly bland. It is well done and cook to liking but like much French cuisine, it offers little spice. The service is friendly but quick. European meals are met to be enjoyed and longer as you take in the culture. Service was pretty quick. The waiter spoke at least 4 languages. It's 2 blocks from the Arc de Triomphe, I am sure the clientele is 90% tourists who just want a quick meal. My cheeseburger was OK and would have been fair value at half the price. My Wife's Fish and Chips looked like the frozen fish sticks like you get at Aldi or some place. The romaine lettuce in her salad was starting to rot at its centre. We were hungry and it was dinner. Next time I think we'll a bit more to get further from "Tourist Central" at the Arc de Triomphe. Our server was rude! My sister is a server. We treat all restaurants with respect. But this person kept making smart remarks. My aunt's steak was tough and chewy and overcooked. I thought she was over exaggerating at first so I gave it a try and it was awful. I couldn't even finish the small bite. She asked for them to take it back which the serve did with no problem, mind you she only had maybe two small bites. She orders something else, and when we get the bill. She was still charged for it and our server told us the manager didn't want to take it off. On top of that, I was overcharged on my bill by an almost $25 tip on a $57 meal. Our first trip to Paris brought us to this brasserie near our hotel. We expected a typical French meal of dishes found on most menus but were blown away by the food. We ate inside as most people dinning outside were smoking. We arrived after 8:00 on a Thursday night in early March and the place was packed. Our waiter was fluent in French and English and very pleasant. I had steak frites and my husband had an amazing scallop dish with a snail appetizer. Great, late night French food! This was my first meal in Paris and not a bad choice! Le General is located within walking distance from the Arc de Triomphe and luckily, while searching for a place to eat at 3:00am, we found this place nearby, which opens till 4:00am. Even at 3:00am, this restaurant is very lively, with many patrons drinking, chatting, and smoking in their outside dining area. We opted to sit inside as it was less smoky and less crowded. Our server was late to come, but once he did, he was attentive, animated, and very friendly. He spoke English pretty well, which was a big help. This place is a little on the pricey side, but it's probably to be expected since the location is touristy and the dishes are a little fancier. Magret De Canard Des Landes (€21) - this is sliced duck breast with a side of mixed greens. The duck had a very delicious flavor, a little bit sweet yet savory, however, some of the duck pieces were a little tough, but some were medium rare and tender. Escargot (€12) - you get six pieces of tasty little snails in a good pesto sauce. The snails were not large, but they tasted good. Woody Burger (€19) - large, delicious juicy burger with truffle sauce, cheese, mushrooms, and caramelized onions. I only had a small bite, but it was tasty. Moelleux Au Chocolat (€8,50) - molten chocolate cake dessert...hot, delicious, and topped with a liquid caramel sauce. Great way to end the meal! Our waiter added a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which was €5 extra. Overall, after a long travel, Le General was a pretty good meal, especially late at night. We tried to go to some French restaurants with a lot of reviews. Whenever they saw our four kids (10-15 years old), they told us that they're busy and the wait was going to be too long. We walked around, contemplated about eating at McDonald's because we were too tired and hungry to search for more restaurants. Then, out of nowhere, we found this 3 stars restaurant with 20 reviews. I was too hungry to care, but I'm was praying it would be half decent. It didn't disappoint! We ordered foie gras and escargots for appetizers. Magnificent. It was the best foie gras I've eaten. I had them in the United States and I didn't like the taste and smell. I was reluctant but what the heck, I'm in Paris. I must order and try it. Wow! Amazing! The escargots were perfect as well. The French onion soup was great as well. I ordered the seafood platter that consisted of half a lobster, three oysters, six prawns, and 10 conchs. It was delicious and very fresh. My kids ordered the hamburger. The cheesy French fries were great. We ordered creme brûlée's and ice cream for dessert. I had a bite of the creme brûlée and it was amazing! Our server was very attentive and nice. He spoke great English and helped us with our orders. Overall, I recommend this restaurant despite the reviews. Le General was recommended to me by a nice lady at my hotel. She said that it was better than other places in the area for Breakfast. We tried the set breakfast with just a croissant and a small piece of French baguette. The croissant was very good but the bread was quite tough. The cafe Americano was so good that I had to order a second cup. My main problem with this place was that it took forever to get us the check but this was far from the only place that I had that problem in Paris. The next night we were looking for a place to eat a late dinner and just happened by this place. We were coaxed into eating here by a very friendly and energetic waiter who hailed from Morocco. We had a bottle of wine and the duck breast. The duck was outstanding! The waiter mistakenly thought that I ordered one order for my wife and another order for myself when in fact I had intended to split the duck. That mistake turned out to be a good one because my wife and I would have probably fought over that delicious duck like a couple of hyenas. All in all, a pretty good place. read more

This was my third trip to Paris and my 4 or 5 th visit to Le General. And this place one my favorite has got worst at night this time . I went around 12 pm after I got back from Notredam area and I was staying Sofitel near arc de trioumpe. So close to my hotel .After I ordered bone marrow grill with thin toast , then just next time a morrocon girl and a man began arguing and this escalated to the point that they almost became violent . Other folks jumped in to stop their loud and violent behavior . I cancelled my order and asked the manager that I am leaving . He told me that this place is an Arab hangout at nite and this is usually the scene at this place . And it's true 90 percent of Arabs hangout there and has changed since I was 3 yrs ago . He still charged for the food order I had cancelled . So I am not recommending this place to civilized , educated and decent place at night read more

When me and my friend first arrived to Paris, we were on our way to this restaurant near the Arc de Triomphe. However, the restaurant we originally wanted to go to (Le P'tit Wagram) was closed that Sunday. So we stumbled across the Le General walking on the same street and decided to go in. My friend ordered the fried eggs platter and I ordered the salmon bagel and the escargot. The fried eggs platter was great. I've never had escargot (snails) before, but they were magnificent! It tasted slightly like seafood and garlic pesto sauce. The salmon bagel was one of the best I've had, although I will say that they put too many tomatoes (six slices!). While our main meals were great, what truly stuck out to us was the vanilla ice cream and the service. The vanilla bean ice cream was the best ice cream we've ever had. It was rich and creamy, and the vanilla bean was so distinct and wonderful. If you do go here, DEFINITELY get the vanilla bean ice cream. We spent the rest of our trip comparing different ice creams in Paris, but nothing compared to Le General's vanilla bean. This restaurant is definitely on the expensive side, but honestly you can come here just for the ice cream. Also the scoops are a little small so maybe get the three scoops instead of two or one.
