We met up with a friend here for a lunch break after driving down Rt 81. Our friend had already been seated when we arrived. Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We're just some road-weary guys rollin' out of town. That was the thinking, anyway. This was on the opening leg from PA to Nashville. Yeah, we drove for whatever reason. But hey, road trips are fun, and trying food from places you'll most likely never see again is a bit of nostalgia tossed with whimsy. Like back in the 60s when you'd drive halfway across the country with the family, stopping in a different diner the entire way there. Cafe del Sol is a regional chain with six locations. You'll find nachos, pizza, paninis, tacos, and wraps. This is an overused trope, but there really is something for everyone here. Kind of reminds me a bit of the Ground Round back in the day. You could get anything from fajitas to chicken parmesan. For this stop, we got a little bit of everything. Some nachos to start (that never come with enough salsa/sour cream), a pizza, panini, and wrap. Nachos had a pretty decent layer of toppings. Invariably some nachos at the bottom get missed and you get a bed of plain, boring chips, but it really wasn't the case here. There was a good even spread that maximized the area of the large serving plate. This ensured nice, even distribution. And they didn't skimp on the toppings, either. Just need more than a single ramekin each of salsa and sour cream. Their pizza is pretty on point. Lots of hot, gooey cheese with serious stretch factor. The Meat Lover's pie lived up to its name. Could hardly see the cheese underneath the meaty goodness on top. Crust was nice a crispy, too. And this place claims to have its own brick oven on the website (we were sat too far from the kitchen area to see), so might as well take advantage of it. I suppose you really shouldn't be serving pizza if you don't have one. That'd be pretty bold of you in this day in age. An age of artesian brick oven pizzerias. Now here's where things start to go a bit downhill. I got this Caesar Wrap. It's grilled chicken. Comes with fries. But they, um, grilled it? I'm not sure if they were supposed to toss it on the panini press first. My friend ordered a panini, so maybe they got a little panini-press happy back there. I don't mind a grilled wrap, I guess, but this had Caesar-soaked lettuce inside. So after it came off the grill, I was forced to take bite after bite of warm, slimy, gross lettuce. That really is one of the worst textures you'd want in your mouth. The classic crunch you get from biting into romaine was completely absent. I remember one episode of Kitchen Nightmares where one of the restaurants was serving a grilled Caesar salad, Gordon ordered it, and yeah, sure enough out comes this giant grilled piece of lettuce. Gordon can't believe it, and rightfully so it seems. Lastly, just kind of a minor thing, but the fries were very meh. Decently seasoned, but soaked in grease and mushy. They had absorbed so much grease sitting there, they had become engorged with oil. It was seeping out the edges. You could wring it like a towel. Crisp fries are the way to go, and crisp these were not. All in all an experience as varied as the menu. Everything is going to be all over the place, from menu offerings to quality. Perfectly fine destination for a quick workday lunch or casual night out. Or when you and your mates are passing on through on their way to the America's heartland for a week of fun activities. read more

I can't speak about the ambiance since I got this to go. But this place easily has the best food selection in the area. We tried the Korean BBQ bowl, chimichurri tacos, bao bun sliders, gyro, and the fried, and mozza Luna. The Maso Luna even delivered was crispy and hot. The bao buns were phenomenal. From beginning to end the entire time pent at Cafe Del Sol was very nice. When we arrived we were not sure off seating so they pushed two tables together for us. Drinks arrived at the table quite nicely along with the Bao Sliders. The Korean Pork BBQ sliders were very flavorful and presented quite nice. Moving on to our entrees we ordered the Gyro with chips and the house jalapeño ranch, Black and Bleu Steak Salad, Shrimp and Chorizo Bowl, Prime Rib Panini and the Chicken Club. The Gyro was stuffed to perfection, loaded and wrapped in a light dough almost similar to the Bao slider. Chips were spot on and served up with the delicious homemade jalapeño ranch dressing. The Steak and Bleu salad was topped with a creamy mouthwatering Bleu cheese dressing and loaded with tender bites of steak. The Prime Rib panini was super tender and sliced nice and thin to accent the tender cooking. The fries served up with the sandwiches were also fresh and not over salted which often occurs these days. The center of the plate Shrimp and Chorizo bowl was loaded with a good amount of shrimp and chorizo but could have used a bit more shrimp and about 1/3 less rice, as there was way too much starch to protein ratio in the bowl. The grilled chicken club panini had flavorful bacon, and was equally served up with an excellent batch of fries. All entrees were hot, fresh and flavorful and brought out at the same time. As for desserts we ordered Cannoli which were beautifully presented filled with Chocolate chips and cream. Tiramisu was scrumptiousness with espresso soaked ladyfingers served up with mascarpone and cocoa powder. Lastly the Strawberry Tres Leches finished out the order and was as quickly polished off as the rest. The sponge soaked cake was melt in your mouth goodness with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. The atmosphere was nice, the level of sound not to intense and the food network was playing on TV. Excellent night out with the family and will certainly be dining here again and again. read more

Today I took my Mom for lunch at Cafe Del Sol and as usual, they did not disappoint. We ordered the red rock bisque soup, which was a creamy based soup with chunks of crab and baby shrimp. I also got the crabcake panini with sweet potato fries and the Cobb salad for my Mom. What I love about this restaurant is that you get your money's worth. Every ingredient that they pointed out in the menu was noticed in the dish. You didnt have to go looking for the crabmeat because it was plain to see. My panini filling and tasted scrumptious !!! My mom enjoyed her Cobb salad as well. There was loads of Chicken, bacon, avocado, egg and Ham and it all came together with the greens and in house honey mustard dressing. Waitress took her time chatting with one of the customers about her life while we waited to order. This is a very tasty restaurant. I have tried the beef quesadillas, salad, and gyro sandwich and they were consistently delicious. There is a wealth of choices to pick from the menu and they provide delivery. This is great especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have never been inside to eat. I have only bought take out and had them deliver the food to my front door, but I bet the food is even better when served at a table. In any case, we will be ordering from this restaurant a lot. Delicious! We were licking our fingers and will be back for sure. I had a Mediterranean salad made with super fresh ingredients and a really yummy balsamic dressing. My husband had a steak quesadilla that was really big (we ended up sharing it) and was absolutely perfect - maybe the best quesadilla I've ever tasted, and that is considering that I'm not a huge meat and cheese fan, so the fact that I thought was really delicious says a lot. Not a good experience my wife and I ordered food Togo on Sunday. The service was fine. However when we opened up the boxes it went down hill. My wife got the Gyro. The Naan was good. However it was lacking sauce. The meat was very salty needed something to offset the saltiness. Some lime or Lemon. I had the cheesesteak. Bread was fine. Needed more love hardly any peppers or onions needed more meat. The homemade fries that should be show stoppers were burnt with both platters. read more

We both enjoyed a soup: the tomato bisque was thick and zesty, great paired with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon; the Red Rock Bisque was flavorful and paired nicely with the Moscato. Lots of seafood flavor, but not fishy. Thick, creamy soup. We each ordered an entrée, which came with a salad. Salads are a good size. The honey mustard dressing was very tasty. For entrées, we had the Pasta Del Sol and the Parma Pasta. Both entrées had large chunks of chicken in an ample amounts. The Pasta Del Sol had plenty of portobellos, but was light on the bacon and spinach. The roasted red pepper and tomato cream sauce had a nice flavor. The Parma Pasta was very tasty. We would order all of the above again. The service, well good, was too quick between courses. I had hardly finished my soup, when the salad arrived. And the entrée arrived only a few minutes after that. Three courses in front of me at the same time. This is a "kitchen issue". This was at the Martinsburg Cafe Del Sol. Service was fine. We were served fairly quickly but there weren't many customers at the time. I appreciated my water with 3 pieces of lime, as I love lime in my water! A friend ordered half sweet/unsweetened tea and was satisfied with the flavor. He ordered quesadillas and red rock soup and was very satisfied. My husband ordered the cheesesteak and enjoyed it. Remember to ask for additional toppings like tomatoes. I ordered the chicken, bacon, avocado panini and loved the flavor blend. The panini bread was fresh. The one item that didn't taste fresh were hand made potato chips. I mentioned it to the waitress, who mentioned it to the cook . They make the chips earlier in the day for the whole day and we were there around 6pm. I received another serving of chips. They were ok but wouldn't order again. Get greens, or fries. They do have sweet potato fries . We were too full for dessert. A Diamond in the rough!! Have driven pass that storefront many times, dismissing it as probably just another chain. How wrong I was. My niece requested we meet there for an overdue family lunch, so we did. To my surprise the menu was awesome and the food was also. Definitely plan to return soon.
