Rock hard Ham Stromboli, some meat sauce, pepperoni pizza doused in Parmesan and garlic powder for taste. Ugh.

Update: we gave them another try (and another, and another). The staff has been very helpful each time. They ask what kind of pizza we would like to request. It has been night and day since the first time we tried them and I'm glad we came back. Now that we've had their fresh pizzas, their dough is very good. Even my picky eater eats the crust. The water still tastes like plastic. That knocked off a star. Otherwise, great value!

Cheese, "white", and pepperoni pizza on the lunch buffet

Came here today for the pizza buffet...luncheon price for month of may is an amazing $4.99, and that includes salad, pasta dishes, and dessert. Usually it's $6.95. I gather they have a menu, but at lunch it's all about the buffet. There are several pizza choices, white pizza, Hawaiian, pepperoni, sausage, cheese, deluxe, veggie, etc. The two soups were minestrone and Italian wedding. There were a few cakes and chocolate chip cookies for desserts. Salad bar was also pretty good. The pasta dishes were spaghetti and another "tube" type pasta with ricotta and tomato, melted mozarella on top. I pretty much stuck with Italian wedding soup which was very good, and pizza. The pizza was about 3 on a scale of 5. My main "fault" with it was that it seemed a bit undercooked, but I'd rather have it that way than cardboard. I just wish they could find the balance that Anthony's seems to find for thin crust pizza. Overall it's the best value around the area for lunch. Pix posted. ON A RETURN VISIT, I saw that they had BBQ chicken pizza and Peanut Butter and Jelly pizza on the buffet...I suppose some folks like that stuff, but I don't

He helped make our evening special and he proves that you can be a "professional " and be a waiter. Ok. We started with the crab soup. It was salty like the ocean, and very tasty with some large bits of crab. Highly recommended. We each had a house salad and they were so big that we could have shared one. We also ordered the seafood fettuccine and shared that dish. Glad we shared because it was more than one person could eat. Plenty of jumbo shrimp and scallops and the Alfredo sauce was filled with crab meat. Just yummy! We enjoyed the ambience of the dining room and I would definitely love to come back here again (and again!).

Place was very clean and restrooms were stocked and clean too. Great feel and local ambiance which was enjoyable. Ordered up a beer and looked over the menu and decided upon the French onion soup and the Chicken Chesapeake sandwich. Soup arrived in good order and I was told to be careful as it was extremely hot. However, the cheese being melted but not toasted was a sign that the soup was not hot. It was lukewarm at best, and the flavor was muted as if the onions did not have time to sufficiently caramelize or that they did not use enough base to bring out the flavor in the broth. The sandwich was a wonderful 180 degree turn from the lackluster soup. It was hot, delicious, cooked and presented very well with hot Cristy fries that were perfect in the middle when eaten. Over all the location did not disappoint, aside from the soup. It may have been an off day, who knows, but I'd certainly be back to try another sandwich or entree based upon the quality and presentation given to me at lunch.

It can be difficult to find gluten free options and they always deliver good food. However, there definitely seem to have been some changes recently--not sure if it's new management, perhaps multiple factors. I'm excited to see some new additions to the menu, and any period of change is bound to come with some hiccups, but the use of generative AI is a HUGE concern for me. The environmental impact of generative AI is well-known, and that seems to be at odds with the values of Free Range which emphasizes local, fresh food and being more environmentally friendly. However, on my most recent visit, AI-generated merch was available for sale, as well as AI-generated coloring pages for kids. Some of the text on recent social media posts also has hallmarks of AI generation. There are many free coloring pages available online, and it could be really cool to see a collaboration with a local artist for merch designs instead. Free Range Cafe is a place I've always really enjoyed, and their food is still delicious. I want to continue coming here, so I hope that management can take these concerns into consideration as they move in their new direction.

Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.
