We were wrapping up on a free walking tour around late-morning/early-lunch time and had wanted to swing by Amalie for a quick bite, but instead, our tour guide strongly suggested we stop by Café Fremtiden for a more traditional Danish meal experience.
For a walk-in party of 6, we had no trouble getting a table. Amongst our group, we split the Krydder Slid Med 1/2 Æg (Curried Herring), Lun Stegt Slid (Heated Fried Herring), Roastbeef med Bløde Løg og Spejlæg (Roast Beef with Soft Onion and Fried Egg), Mørbrad Med Bløde Løg (Sirloin of Pork with Soft Onions), Lun Leverpostej Med Champignon og Bacon (Liver Pate with Bacon and Mushrooms), and a couple of beers and ciders.
The Krydder Slid Med 1/2 Æg (Curried Herring) and the Lun Stegt Slid (Heated Fried Herring) were a little too fishy, and a bit too undercooked for our liking. The Roastbeef med Bløde Løg og Spejlæg (Roast Beef with Soft Onion and Fried Egg) and the Lun Leverpostej Med Champignon og Bacon (Liver Pate with Bacon and Mushrooms) were our favorites. The Mørbrad Med Bløde Løg (Sirloin of Pork with Soft Onions) was delicious, but nothing outstanding.
I can't be certain to say the food wasn't good because halfway through our meal, we realized we just weren't fans of herring, cooked in any way. Worth stopping by for a traditional Danish bite, but not worth it if you already know you prefer the modern twists to and versions of smørrebrød. read more
