Danish meatballs, roast beef, beefsteak AND a lot of potatoes
    Celeste Y.

I had to have a proper end to my 5 months in Copenhagen. What better way than to have a proper Danish meal. Cafe Lindevang was not far from where I was living (Frederiksberg) and my friends have tried it and said it's really good. They said that portions were large, but I wasn't expecting what arrived. I ordered the Danish meatballs (friend's recommended) and my jaw dropped. When the waiter was approaching with our orders, I thought he had everyone's order with him... He only had one order and this was a huge platter. Trust me, you won't be able to finish it (at least I didn't). Dane's love their cabbage and potatoes and meat. This was enough potatoes for a family feast honestly! The meatballs were seasoned well and were moist. Spread some gravy and jam on it and you'll understand why these will be one of the best meatballs you'll ever have. I loved the red cabbage and the sweet potatoes. I couldn't eat any of the side potatoes... It was just too much... For the price of the meal, this is a lot of food! Sit outside when it's sunny! Have a beer, enjoy some dessert, chat with friends or come for a feast! *SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF*

The restaurant's design is definitely minimalist with simple blank walls and a comfortable mix of fake and real plants. There was no air conditioning but they found a fan to keep us comfortable- we were amazed that more folks in the full restaurant weren't sweating the way we were. Perhaps the locals are more used to the summer heat with no AC than we were. We had the 3-course prefixe meal with my my wife and daughter on the standard menu while I was on the vegetarian track. The website says that Host is the Danish word for harvest, and that their focus is "on the Scandinavian kitchen with lots of surprises." The staff used the word "surprises" explicitly, using it to describe the amuse-bouches and palette-cleansing bites served between the advertised courses. We started with a flight of croquettes with cheese and I think my wife and daughter had something like a smoked fish hash of some sort while by I had a delightful bite of salad on a molded sweet cookie tart shell. The baby bread loaves with a special butter were lovely - how do you innovate butter? Great job. My first veggie entree was fried carrots with horseradish, which was grand. Next I had a barley risotto with amazing brown beech mushrooms on top. Awesome. There was a spot of potato soup in there somewhere and the best bite of the meal was another of the surprises - a pre-dessert mochi-like shell with strawberry powder on the outside and hazelnut ice cream (I think???) on the inside. The strawberry rhubarb dessert was excellent also. Such a great meal. Loved it.

They were so loud that management asked them to quiet down (which was greatly appreciated by us and others). It's an at least a 2-hr dining experience for a 5-course dining experience. The portions are just the right size and even shareable. The hubs did the 5-course with wine pairings, dessert and coffee and I the 3-course. I was able to share some of his items and wines as well. They are Michelin recommended and still awaiting a star. Here's to hoping they get it soon. All the servers step up for one another as well and take their time explaining what the item is, all the ingredients and how it's prepared. Check this off your dining list while in Copenhagen!

The lettuce salad that came with my beef filet was so crisp that it seemed to have just been picked from the garden. It may not be a bad idea to try their vegetarian prix-fixe menu some time. We came as a group of five people and were given 2 hours and 15 minutes for our table. Service was attentive without being rushed. The cheese foam bottom is reminiscent of a whipped, light sour cream and adds depth to the light fish. The shaved asparagus and fingerlimes add the perfect touch of crunch and acidity - Witch flounder, so delicate and mild in flavor, the purée adds depth to this dish while the bread topped outside creates structure.I've never had such a light piece of bread topping Love the garlic dollop and radicchio topping. Amazing meal in a very cozy environment!…read more We opted to sit by the open kitchen (front of the restaurant) so we can chat with the chefs...it was the best decision as we learned so much about the cuisine and the culture on our first night in Copenhagen. We chose the 3 course option and my friend and I picked 2 different choices for each course so we can try different food. For appetizers, we had the salted cod and the veal tartare. Both were equally delicious and the combination of ingredients were very creative. For entrees, I enjoyed the fish (fried plaice) a lot while my friend liked her pork belly. I am more of a seafood person and the fried plaice was definitely up my alley! For desserts, both choices (sorbet and apple trifle) were simply amazing. The presentation for all the dishes were very well done and each course showcased all the fresh and local ingredients that Denmark has to offer! The bread and the butter were so yummy that we couldn't stop eating. We happened to be there when the restaurant was celebrating their 7th birthday so the sommelier poured us extra wine and gave us a shot of schnapps! The staffs/chefs were all very friendly and funny! Not to mention, the price for the quality that we received was very reasonable! We had a blast there! Make sure you ask about the story behind "pony".

We were early for our reservation but was no problem to get seated right away as the restaurant wasn't too busy on a Tuesday evening. Service was friendly and professional. It's a small menu with 3 choices each for appetizers, mains, and desserts. We chose 3 courses for 425DKK which I think was decent value. The food was very good. I think I'd describe it as elevated comfort food - dishes were filling and delicious but flavour combinations were unique and there were some more 'modern' touches (foam, dots of sauces, etc), which added to the dishes rather than overwhelmed them. We started with delicious, hearty bread served with a huge pillow of airy butter (the server told us it had been whipped with buttermilk). The Danes really do great bread! I also had a delicious glass of sparkling wine. We were able to taste the wine before the server poured the whole glass which is always a nice touch. Unlimited water (either still or sparkling) was included for 15DKK (although I only found this out later when we got the bill). I started with steamed mussels which were served with carrot puree, red onion, fennel, and celery. Mussels were served on a plate without the shells, with garnishes mixed in. For the main I had roasted cod, with spinach and potatoes on the side along with celeriac foam, topped with bacon and crisped potatoes. For dessert I chose the raspberry dish, which was a scoop of vanilla ice cream surrounded by raspberries, toasted meringue, and crumbled almond cookies. I don't think this was the best meal I've ever had, but in terms of value in such a pricey city and the great service, it's definitely worth a visit.

Ordered "Six Favorites" and "Fast Four" courses. The staff helpfully suggested that they could replace lamb with monk fish for one of the courses on the "Fast Four" for my spouse. The starter stole the show: Zander with aromatic blackcurrant wood oil, finger lime, kohlrabi infused in dashi, bright citrus herbs and topped with sauce of fresh apple, celery, dashi. An amazing dish, unlike anything we've tasted: light, refreshing, clean-tasting, illuminated by aroma of blackcurrant wood oil and citric accents. A delight for the taste buds. Homemade sourdough bread (brushed with smoked bone marrow) was very tasty but seemed slightly burnt on top and quite salty. We enjoyed the texture contrast of the puffed carrot skin pre-starter snack: this contains carrot with elderflower purée, topped with fermented carrot, pickled thyme gel and roasted hazelnuts. The combination was unique and complimentary. Dessert was sea buckthorn sorbet, mousse with parsley crumble: well conceived, exquisitely composed. The sorbet was unbelievably smooth absent of any trace of iciness. ****.5
