This part of Southwark is just arms-length enough from the touristy areas that Flour & Grape feels like a spot that is mostly trafficked and loved by locals. This being South of the river, there isn't a particularly convenient Tube station to bring you here from another part of the city. (Try a rental bike or scooter!) It is popular and they don't take reservations, so you are likely to be forced to queue up when you arrive. I came right when they opened so I didn't have that problem, and if you can make that work, I recommend it. I ordered their Pappardelle; it had a delicous ragu that had a cool fusion of flavors. I really loved it. I also got a great little bowl of olives and a pisachio gelato dessert. That gelato tasted really nice. Service was highly professional, and it is a beautiful dining room. I'm an American who stops by London for a couple of days every few years, and there is a very good chance I will work in a dinner here next time I'm around.

This was a happening place and we were lucky enough to get a table for two so we could enjoy their sweet treats. We also ordered the bruschetta, as it looked so good. The bread for the Bruschetta was so delicious. It was a soft bread and the flavor really worked with the tomato spread on top. The tomatoes were super sweet and flavorful, it was a lovely treat. The salted caramel gelato - well, how can you not like it? Enough said, it was very good. The Bundino was the slightly weak link. I would have chosen it last, but it was still a nice option for our dessert session.

I'll start with the good things. This place has a great atmosphere. Has the vibe of a nice…read moreold-style family-owned Italian place in the US. (Don't know how it compares to Italy). Intimate and relaxed but still nice enough to feel that you are "out" somewhere. They bring you limoncello and nice dark chocolate mints at the end of the night. The decor and spacing is just right for the downstairs space. The food was fine. Not particularly memorable, but not bad. For this level of quality, in my opinion, the cost was too high. Our family of 5 had four pasta dishes (bolognese, amatriciana, carbonara, lasagna), a pizza, and 2 bottles of beer. The dishes were all a la carte. No salad or antipasti or dessert. The bill was nearly 140 pounds. This was our most expensive meal in a 10-day vacation, for which I expected more. The worst part of the experience was our waitress. An older lady who gave the vibe that she was the owner's wife or sister who just couldn't be bothered. After we were there for 10 minutes, she took our order with the smallest amount of effort. I asked for a beer and she gruffly said "we have Peroni ... Italian beer," followed by a stare. So I had a Peroni. Later, I noticed other tables were drinking different beers that must have been on the drink menu that she didn't want to bring me. She delivered our food (the orders were all correct) with minimal effort (most was delivered by runners) and then completely ghosted us for the rest of the evening. She was there, casually wandering around the restaurant, rolling silverware, stapling things together at the hostess station, bringing water to other tables ... not stressed or in the weeds with other tables. But, she wouldn't look our way. After we finished, part of our family left to our hotel and I stayed to pay the bill. The host (or maybe owner) brought our mints and limoncello, and another waiter cleared the dishes, so I thought the bill was on the way. It wasn't. I eventually stood up and waived down another waiter (who was very helpful) who fetched the host who brought us our (very large) bill. For all I know, the waitress perfectly lovely at other times and just had an off night. But, it really dampened our experience on this night.

They have where you can order at the counter and sit down, order at the counter and take it to go, or order thru the app and have it delivered to your table. I consider it more fast casual since they don't have formal table service. We ordered the bruschetta mozzarella- this was good but they need to use a more toasted crostini because the bread got soggy fast and just fell apart. We also shared the garlic bread with cheese which was amazing. It had real pieces of garlic and a good amount of cheese. Then I tried the arrabbiata- the penne noodles were well overcooked and soggy. The sauce was lackluster and had no spice, idk if they made it wrong or what but I did request a refund. Also because my fiancé's food showered up about 15mins before mine did and he was also finished by the time mine came out wrong. They did offer to remake mine but then is when I requested the refund because he was done and I didn't want to wait. My fiancé got the hot smoked salmon with tagliatelle noodles. He really liked it. I think it would be better if they left the salmon whole but they shred it into pieces. I'd probably return for drinks and appetizers if I go back. I also got the gunna raspberry lemonade and it's awful, way too sweet.
