All items in my order were missing ingredients or made incorrectly, and I had to ask for the side of guacamole that I had already paid extra for. The lobby was dirty throughout but especially the self serve drinks area. Food is so overpriced it makes Chipotle look affordable. This location is very poor and you should avoid it. I'd give this Cafe Rio zero stars if I could!! This is the filthiest Cafe Rio I've ever seen. The assembly line was so dirty and food was thrown everywhere. The floors and tables were filthy. This location needs a very deep cleaning. Even the rafters had a couple of inches of dust on them. The service is absolutely awful. Employees are very unmotivated and are definitely not in any hurry to help customers. When they had no customers they could be cleaning tables floors and the assembly line but were standing around behind the counter chatting. We gave Cafe Rio another try because costa vida is closed sundays. We came in I asked for a burrito and after the worker started making it she then decided to tell us they were completely out of chicken. it's 7:30 they close at 10. crazy to run out of the protein a lot of people choose. and even if they were out they could have said something before hand. then i asked for cheese enchilada. she asked if i wanted one or two. i proceeded to say one. i got a cheese quesadilla instead. i know it's not that different but still. i would have made them fix it but there was a line behind us. beside the point the worker was also throwing cheese at her coworkers while customers were ordering. food wasn't very good either. and seating area looked like it hadn't been cleaned for hours. read more

Im never one to leave reviews but i feel i have to today. First of all I LOVED cafe Rio. We used to eat there at least once a week... sometimes twice. We always get the same thing... 2 salads with double steak....one with black and the other with refried beans. Guac... sour cream... the 9. I had no problem paying 30 plus dollars. I havent eaten there in a couple of months but today I was in the mood for a yummy salad. I got there at about 2pm. It wasn't busy at all. I ordered the same 2 double steak salad. Barely any steak in the warmer and instead of getting more she basically made "double steak for 2 plates when whatever was in there should've been for 1 plate. Beans were half a scoop. Now we get to the lettuce... both containers were just about empty. She gave us scraps... didnt even cover the plate.... like why even put cheese if youre gonna put a little ass sprinkle. Why is the sour cream and Guacamole empty EVERYTIME I go there so when its time to put some on the plate... youre scraping the sides to give us a quarter scoop. MY DOUBLE STEAK HAD 13 SKINNY SHREDDED PIECES OF STEAK! Cafe Rio you guys cant be serious. I got charged for double steak and paid $47.00 and it was not worth it AT ALL. It was 43.00 with a 4 dollar tip which I shouldn't even have tipped but your staff make it kind of uncomfortable when they ring me up and tell me there's a question for me to answer. Believe me when I say that we can CLEARLY see that its asking for a tip we dont need it pointed out. I see quite a bit of negative reviews here and you respond with thank you for feedback blah blah blah but obviously there isnt any improvements bc people are still complaining about the same stuff. Felt like I should help balance out some reviews after reading so many negatives. We've been a few times and haven't ever had any complaints. The portions were good and the restaurant was clean when we went. The employees weren't over-the-top friendly but they were perfectly pleasant and gave us good portions. The food is like any Cafe Rio, not anything amazing but filling and good every now and then. I think our experience here is always much better than the Rexburg location, which is actually closer to us. Maybe we came at a good time or they've been working to improve, but if you like Cafe Rio you might not need to pass on this one because of some of the negative reviews. I love Cafe Rio. I came here the evening of the 4th of July but there was a sign posted that you had closed early for the holiday, which I don't blame you for. I knew it was going to be difficult to find a place to eat so late in the evening. What I didn't appreciate is the employee who was pointing at my car and mockingly laughing as I left the drive thru. My family stopped here while they were visiting from out of town. The place was filthy, the tray stuck to the table from food left on the bottom of the tray. The beans and lettuce were swimming in water that the employee did not drain at all before pouring it into the burrito and they literally dug a lit out of a trash pile when asked for a lid. I've eaten at Cafe Rio's all over the west and I have to say, this Cafe Rio (at least the times we've been here) has been so dirty. It's one thing when you eat in a restaurant where you can't see the kitchen but to walk down a buffet line where all you see is the kitchen, you would think that cleanliness would be the #1priority. Went to the Cafe Rio in Ammon tonight and got a couple Sweet Pork salads. The young lady that took my order and was very accommodating to change one to both black and pinto beans no rice. When she went to put the meat on no matter how tried to fish some pork out of a juice filled serving pan all she got was a few strands. Then she asked me if I wanted anything else, I responded yes sweet pork that I ordered not that. Can't you get the kitchen to bring you more, I inquired. She just ignored me then she turned and got another pan out of a warmer drawer and changed the pans. I thought I was getting more to rectify the problem, no way she ignored me and slid the pans down the line and started taking the next persons order, I pointed out my disappointment in no meat to the next two employees down line to no avail. This is a Franchise issue apparently, they have raised the price to $12.99 and pork is at an all time low. I feel like Biden crying about small candy bars(greedflation). They catered a work lunch for us and served tacos. Wow! They had two meats and had rice, beans, and some really good toppings. I don't care for super spicy food, but my friends who do like spicy enjoyed it. I liked the mild toppings. I'll definitely order their tacos from the restaurant. The food here is okay. Not like what it used to be. However, service was quick and reliable. Staff was very friendly. The reason I wouldn't recommend is because the restaurant was noticeably dirty. There was old, moldy food stuck in the cracks of the glass and countertop at the ordering/preparing station. We were unsuccessful at finding a clean table to eat at and there were flies buzzing around the dining area. Sad to see one of our favorite places go down this route. read more

7/11/21 - 6:30pm: The staff - The staff was very short and Kurt with customers. This experience wasn't pleasant. The girls behind the counter, when not cursing in Spanish, was either ignoring us or rushing us. It was not that busy inside. The entire restaurant was dirty, I had to clean my own table with napkins and water to have a place to sit and eat. Old and spilled food stayed on the tables and floor the entire time we were here. Another customer even went and sat at a five guys table outside instead of inside. The drink counter was dirty and out of most lids, straws, and utensils. The food seemed fine. The black beans were dry and the rice was sparse. This is not our usual experience with cafe Rio. However, it has put a serious damper on wanting to come back. read more

My food was amazing and fresh and delicious! But I was most impressed by the top notch service that the gentleman who prepared my salad provided. I was told his name is Landon. He was very personable and full of smiles and he asked me if I was doing anything fun today . I responded that today was a self care day for me,,, massage, pedicure and some Costco shopping (I'm from Star Valley). Went here for the first time today and the food was pretty okay, the service from the food workers was less than decent. The young man who was in the lobby asking others if they needed anything was so kind and considerate, which is why this review is as high as it is. Well this Cafe Rio is 0 for 2. I tried once and it is filthy! The male worker was nice enough but there was food all over the food line, old food stuck behind the glass, he had gloves on but touched everything around him. Tables dirty and the trash bins have never been cleaned. Tried it again today in hopes maybe that was a one off day. It was even worse. Glass entry doors filthy, trash filthy with months of bacteria, get to the prep line and yep, still old food stuck behind the glass. The 2nd employee in the line with these giant eyelashes literally flung my food repeatedly on my plate. It was quite comical and clear patrons are a bother to her. There was food all over the line, food on the trash counters, food on the drink station. You literally are risking your life if you eat here. It hasn't been cleaned in probably a year! The bathroom were quite disgusting too. The men's bathroom had wadded up toilet paper in front of the sink and around the toilet and the faucet was grubby. Women's bathroom had paper towels all over the floor and the sink and clearly has not been cleaned in a long time either. Won't be back to this location! Cafe rio Spoiler: DO NOT utilize the online ordering system if you're on a timeline. The food is what you expect for fast food Mexican. This is fine. My complaint is with the online ordering process. I placed an order for 9 entrees. Not an outlandish number. My order was estimated to be ready for pick-up at 11:50 am. It was not ready until after 1:00. This caused me to miss my lunch appointment entirely. Missing the lunch appointment left the first impression that I am completely unreliable and irresponsible - thanks Cafe Rio. While waiting in the restaurant for 70 minutes, I twice asked the cashier to check to see that my order was actually received. He waved me off and said "it was probably being worked on." I pleaded a third time to please check on my order. The cashier finally realized that while the order was received, it was never printed off nor started. During my lengthy stay, I watched and listened to numerous others standing around and griping about the online ordering process. I repeat, don't order online. I love their food it their delivery service gets a zero. Food was ordered through cafe rio app. They had a promotion offering free delivery. Delivery time estimate was 20 to 30 minutes. An hour later no food. I finally called after 70 minutes. The person who answered wasn't in the restaurant but working remote I assume. After a lengthy hold I still couldn't even find out if the order was completed or picked up for delivery or just forgotten. They gave me door dash support number although I thought they handled their own deliveries. I am told it will take a couple weeks for a refund. How about we are sorry. We screwed up and get food right out to us. Worst experience ordering delivery. And I had people waiting for food. Cafe Rio needs to fix their broken system. The good is just slung all over and mixed together. Staff does not try to be hygienic and do things neat. I would fire the entire crew clean the place top to bottom and reopen with staff that cared. I've given this Cafe Rio three chances, and it has struck out. The first time (August 2022) the restaurant was gross with dirty tables and drink/utensil area and overflowing trash cans. The last two times (Fall 2022 and April 2023) I got my food to-go. Both were beyond disappointing and extremely subpar for Cafe Rio standards. This last time the beans were so dry (see picture)--they looked like someone scraped the bottom of a pan of 3-day-old beans. I immediately flung it in the trash (it was one solid mound) without trying it. The beef birrio tacos were a disappointment as well, with one taco having one side of cheese and one side beef; the cook couldn't even fold the taco correctly! Gross gross gross. I will take my business to Costa Vida and Calakas; they are the Idaho Falls Mexican food joints that actually make edible and delicious food. read more

If you like places that are filthy, dirty, and the staff, don't care about anything that's going on around them this is your place! Stopped by here today to pick up a take-out order around 4 o'clock and the place only had one couple inside eating at the moment. The windows and doors in the facility were so disgusting and dirty, as well as the overflowing trash cans and overall filthy mess around the trash can themselves. Many of the tables were left uncleared with buildup of food and grime on the tables, I will never visit this location ever again. Totally uncalled for given how not busy they were. This place seriously needs a health department visit and I'm considering whistleblowing regarding what I just mentioned given the previous reviews in the last year. read more

Here's the problem - We have been here at least 4 times in the last 2 weeks because our first experience was GREAT. The food is WAY tastier than other fast "Mexican" food. If you go on a Taco Tuesday, you get a really nice deal on tacos with multiple choices of meat. Here's where things got a little hairy...we ordered tamales with salad. Everything was going along just fine UNTIL a black hair was spotted in the salad!!! Ewwwwww! NO. Just, no. Keep your hairs on your head, neck, armpit...or any other part of your body & keep them AWAY from my FOOD!!!! Needless to say, I called the manager (Cesar) and told him what happened. He told me I needed to come back to the location so that he could "see it." I brought the food & extra topping back in to show him. Cesar said, "It's probably part of the charred corn husk." Look, I KNOW the difference between a strand of corn silk and a human hair. Also, the corn silk isn't a part of the husk. I was only expecting a refund for the dish where the surprise nastiness was found. But Cesar gave us a full refund for the entire meal. Because of his customer service kindness, I will not give a 1-Star rating. I would like to want to go back again someday. But for now, I just can't even stomach the idea. There was no line so the crew had time to clean, but for some reason cleaning did not seem to be a priority. The floor looked like it' was coated with dirt. Not much to write about. This fast casual place is all the rave when talking to folks from Utah or Idaho. I have never really got on the bandwagon though. It's decent but nothing to write home to mom about. Would much rather prefer visiting one of the many, many other establishments that are serving authentic fare in the area. I was excited to try Cafe Rio after seeing a bunch of pics on IG. Well as usual, social media lies. The food prep line looked like a bomb went off. Everything was mixed with everything else. They were slinging spoons and salsa was in the beans, beans were in the cheese, meat was in the lettuce...you get the idea. None of the staff wanted to be there and it was very obvious. We ended up getting food and that was a mistake. The shredded chicken had zero flavor even when I added salsa. My wife said her burrito was inedible because the beans tasted so sour. The tortillas at Cafe Rio are absolutely ridiculously good. I'm almost embarassed by how much I love them. I always get a quesadilla when I go. The tortilla makes them but the meat is also flavorful and very good. The salads are very popular. Also come with these heavenly tortillas and have fresh lettuce (this is ID so I have to say it) and a lot of flavorful toppings. I'm not sure you can call their salads healthy but they sure are tasty. read more
