This is an amazing place. It's a small mom and pop restaurant in a small strip mall Los Alamos. Their sushi is constantly excellent. It is an incredible find so far from Japan. The service is always prompt and friendly. I like their California rolls. As I long time lover of New Mexico cuisine I especially like their Santa Fe roll. It is fantastic how well fresh green chili goes with traditional Japanese flavors. It is my favorite place to eat in Los Alamos. read more

We've been here three times, two times before 5pm and one time at 5:10pm. The times we arrived before 5, we waited till past 5:15pm and they were closed. No sign that indicated that the hours that day were wrong. Nothing online. They even removed their Google listing. When we stopped in at 5:10pm, we walked in and there was no one at the counter. The waitress came by, ignored us, then went to bring food to another table. We awkwardly stood there, waiting for her to notice us (which she clearly did, because we stood right smack dab in the middle of the room while all the customers -- a grand amount of five, small tables -- stared at us and awkwardly acknowledged our presence with a "I don't know what's going on here either" look). Then, when we called for her, she gave us the angriest look and said, "you have to be here exactly at 5 or call at 4PM for take-out". Fine, message received. Today, we called at 4pm exactly for take-out. No one picked up. We called again. Then again. No one picked up, again. Never got a chance to try their sushi. Each time, we headed to Origami. I mean, I've heard that Cafe Sushi has "fresher" sushi, but is there any point if we haven't tried it at least once? I hate giving one star reviews to local businesses, but this is incredibly frustrating. We've given this place a good amount of chances, followed everything they said, both online and in person, and still, nothing. This is no way to run a business. read more

Food was fresh, service was fair. I dont really like being forced into a community table. Our drink orders were never taken and our extra side dishes for soy sauce were removed. The food was fast, the sushi was good for the small town. Hours are limited, but good for a change of pace. read more

Go ahead, coastal snobs, snicker all you want about a sushi bar 1000 miles from the ocean and a mile and half above sea level. The sushi here is top notch, always very fresh, expertly prepared, and in generous portions: big three-inch long, quarter-inch thick slabs of fish, not those paper-thin little slices a lot of places serve. (And by the way, US food safety regulations require that all sushi everywhere be frozen before being served, in order to kill parasites, so those 1000 horizontal and 1.5 vertical miles don't mean much in this day and age.) Spicy tuna salad is particularly tasty, with a generous pile of big chunks of sashimi tuna and an excellent sesame/vinegar/spice sauce. Shrimp and octopus salads are great too. Service is always friendly and welcoming in this mom-and-pop operation. I'd give this place five stars and then some, because the food is truly excellent. But I'm knocking off a star for their ridiculously short hours - an hour and a half for (early) lunch, and an hour and a half for (extremely early) dinner. Who ever heard of a restaurant that stops serving dinner at 6:30? I normally don't even start thinking about dinner until about 7. So, much as I love their food, I rarely manage to eat here. Pretty much the only time I do is if (1) I miss lunch so that I'm hungry early, and (2) I can somehow get off work early. Too bad, they could do a booming business if they wanted to. read more

This is an awesome if unassuming sushi spot. Best advice is to get there when they open because it tends to fill up fast.

Good Sushi Find in LA, all is not lost! Heard about this from the mom of a babysitter, who said we had to try the tuna salad which is served on a bed of cucumber spaghetti-like strands. Got that, plus two orders hamachi, two orders salmon nigiri, one rainbow roll (fish on inside) and one shrimp tempura roll. They included a free clamshell of edamame. Total bill $45 before tip. Quality of fish, particularly the hamachi in the rainbow-like roll and the nigiri salmon, were very generous and very good quality. Best part- you can order take-out between 10-10:30 and it will be ready to pick up at 11. That means picnic in the park for Friday lunch with my man- yippee! The ambiance of the restaurant itself is rather cramped, this is best as a take-out place in my opinion. read more

RUDE! If there's one way NOT TO run a restaurant, this establishment has it down to a science. After receiving rave reviews from a business associate, I decided to stop by to obtain a to-go menu. I walked inside and greeted in fluent Japanese "Osewani natte orimasu" and was given a go to Hell look that would have sent King Kong running. I switched to English and asked for a to-go menu, but the rudeness didn't stop there. Apparently I was interrupting a conversation with the cashier and an employee. I felt like I was dealing with "Bon Qui Qui"at King Burger! I was spoken to in a demeaning tone of voice and told, "you can get it online". No, I don't think so because at this point there won't be any going online. I don't support businesses that don't appreciate my business. It doesn't matter how excellent their sushi claims to be, I refuse to patronize rudeness!! read more

We go here a couple times a month because we are hostage to good food on this Mesa. It is good food at a reasonable price. The only drawback is the rolls could be rolled tighter with a bit more care. read more

I love this mom and pop sushi restaurant. The Sashimi here is delicious, fresh, and is a great price. Try the sashimi dinner or lunch special. The shrimp salad and spicy tuna salad are also really yummy. We love the fact that the owners always remember you and your order. This place gets pretty busy so I'd show up early. read more

Pretty good sushi for a small town in the mountains in a desert state with no ocean. Seriously, it is pretty decent by NM standards. Trouble is the place is tiny and it is difficult to get a seat, and service can be really slow.. Not a realistic option for lunch if your lunch "hour" is really limited to an "hour". read more

I was a little worried when I noticed the other reviews that there would be a long wait here, but it wasn't bad. We arrived at 12 for lunch on a Friday, and didn't have to wait. For two of us, we ordered three rolls, the sashimi appetizer, and the seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was a little different than I expected with dark green seaweed on top of cucumbers, instead of the bright translucent seaweed. When the food came out, it didn't look like too much, but by the end of lunch, we were both stuffed! Of course, you can't compare the sushi in New Mexico to anything you can find on the coasts, but it's still a great place to get sushi! read more

Yes, the hours of operation are short. Yes, the restaurant is small with not many tables. However, the sushi is excellent and the owners go out of their way to give you a great experience. Flavor was there, but the rice in the rolls was not cooked properly. Half of them where falling apart and the presentation looked sloppy.

The best spicy tuna rolls I've found in New Mexico. The Chef makes them different then you usually find. Prices good also.
