I was craving something Asian after having New Mexican cuisine for the past few days. Surprisingly, Zeng Restaurant was one of the few that were open on Sundays. I was so glad to have stumbled upon it because of this. I ordered takeout and they were really quick to prepare it. When I walked in, the restaurant looked very spacious and clean. I would consider returning to dine in. For takeout, I purchased their Mongolian Beef and the Shrimp with Broccoli. Both dishes were delicious. The Mongolian Beef has a spicy kick to it which I absolutely enjoyed. It has a nice wok hay flavor with onions and tastes great with white rice. The shrimp and broccoli was also very savory, I liked that it's simple and not doused in thick gravy. The broccoli had the perfect crunch. Definitely worth ordering! read more

By far the best Chinese restaurant I've had in NM. Our server was very friendly and recommended us to try chef's special. Food was great. This will be my go to restaurant for mapo tofu. We had another delicious dinner at Zeng. Contrary to what another reviewer recently posted, the $10 parking is for the hotel adjoining the restaurant. As you enter the restaurant there's a large sign that says parking is free for Zeng customers. I had the excellent tofu and vegetables with hand-pulled wheat noodles - a little spicy and super flavorful. My husband, who has recently developed a gluten sensitivity, had pork and veggies with rice noodles. The flavors were similar to mine, but I'm guessing they use tamari instead of soy sauce. The robot delivered our water, but we had great service from the human who took our order. read more

Somewhere online, I read that this was the best Chinese place in the state. So to be fair, the hype was already high. The cumin lamb and the wonton soup were great. The fried rice was good (I'm always overly critical of this one). If I lived in town, I would probably try it again, but I'm not sure I will make the trek back from Albuquerque. The staff was friendly. The appetizer arrived last which was peculiar. And cleanliness could've been a little bit better. read more

I was in the outskirts of Santa Fe for work and had a craving for Chinese food. Unfortunately, the closest spot that I could find was in downtown Santa Fe. That was a a long drive for me and the unfortunate part. The fortunate part, this place was uber-fantabulous. OMG, the food was awesome. Let me get into why the experience was so great. The thing that grabs your attention when you walk in to the restaurant, is the mechanical bowl of noodle soup that has plastic noodles attached to a chopstick that moves up and down. Cool, right? I was greeted by the friendly staff and immediately taken to a table. Menu in hand, and a glass of water, I perused the menu. Man, there were so many yummy things to choose from. I decided on an order of shrimp, eggs ,and chives steamed dumplings for an appetizer and Singapore House fried rice noodle. I love Chinese chives so the dumplings were so yummy. They were steamed to perfection and so, so addicting. The Singapore noodles were wok-fired with chicken, shrimp, calamari, mushrooms, beef, eggs, and cucumbers. Wow, this dish attacked my taste buds with so much deliciousness. The staff were awesome, prices were reasonable, and most importantly, the food was spectacular. You have to get the dumplings. If my travels bring me back to the Santa Fe area, you know that I will come back to this restaurant. read more

July 24, 2024 New addition to the restaurants in the old Santa Fe district near the plaza. Robot servers, although real people take your orders. The $13 mushroom and bok choy was delicious in that the mushrooms contributed to the flavoring of the otherwise bland bok choy. Pricey for a simple vegetarian dish. The $12 soup bun was decent in that there was soup inside the bun when gently punctured with one teeth onto ones spoon. The $15 twice cooked pork was if anything too authentic, being very spicy and full of pork belly fat. Should have ordered spicy beef or chicken instead. Will return 3.5 A decent Chinese restaurant in town. They're the only Chinese we tried. Large hall, plenty outside seatings. I think they share the bathrooms with the motel. A lady is making dumplings at the station when we walked in at 4pm. I asked what kind dumplings is she making, she said I don't speak English. The skins look different, but I did order - five steamed dumplings arrived - they're huge, double the normal size. I ordered chives and pork, they include corns too (freebie... but not young), which I don't see often. The fillings are too solid. We've mapo tofu 麻婆豆腐 and beef with string beans 牛肉四季豆. Both taste good, especially the tofu has the numbing spice. The beef is tender (tenderizer?) but the string beans are way too old, which is chewy. A fly is persistent around our table. read more

If you park in the motel lot next door after five you need to pay $10 for a ticket so you don't get towed (refundable) but there's a lot across the street too. Beer and wine available but no cocktails. A huge menu is on offer, and portions were generous, but I can't say we were served anything that set this food apart from the masses. On the south side of downtown Santa Fe. - Menu: Huge. Most versions of Americanized Chinese Food were listed. - Service: Our server, Mikael, was friendly and prompt. In fact, the food came out so quickly we wondered if it was pre-made. - Price and Value: Reasonable. Dinner was $51 before tax and tip. We weren't thrilled, but got what we paid for. Cons: - Exterior: A nice version of Denny's. - Ambiance: Functional. Tables and booths. A hospital cafe with Chinese food. - Food: Passable. We each had a small bowl of Tofu and Egg Drop Soup ($5 apiece). They had flavor, but were not hot enough (a problem with everything). For an appetizer, we shared an order of 2 Vegetable Spring Rolls ($6). They seemed more egg roll than spring roll and rather small (but for just $6). Our entree was Sesame Shrimp with White Rice ($18). It was tasty, but bathed in what seemed like orange sauce. Plus it wasn't very hot. I asked our server "is this Orange Shrimp?". He smiled and said "no. Sesame Shrimp". To drown our sorrows, we each had a bottle of beer. - Parking: Good luck. There's parking at the hotel next to Zeng's, but it costs $10. So we went behind the Pink Adobe...2 blocks away..and parked in a dirt lot which was muddy from rain. NOTE: Zeng's uses a robot to move dishes around the room. It was the best part of dinner If you're not picky about what you eat and just want something that looks like Chinese food .....Americanized at that...Zeng's might fill your need. I tried this place for the first time recently while visiting my folks from out of state. They said Zeng's was relatively new to the area and had gotten rave reviews so we gave it a shot. First off, to be fair, I will say that my parents really liked the entire experience, from the ambience to the food. They even got a kick out of the little robot server strolling around with food and drinks to the various tables. Speaking of which, all the tables were full, and there were plenty of people sitting on the outside patio as well so they must be doing something right. Unfortunately I just didn't care for the food. I tried the Mongolian Beef, fried wantons and Lo Mein. I found there was just way to much oil used on almost all the food. MSG? Chili sauce? Honestly I am not sure what it was, except that it made it almost unpalatable to me. I eat a lot of Chinese food, so it's not that I am picky, but there are a few places I can't go back to because they use too much of a (as-yet unidentified by me) ingredient which gives me a hard stomach ache. This place has now hit that sad list of Chinese food joints I just won't go back to. read more

First you must ignore the signs about paying for parking and park at the El Sendero Inn - it will be at no charge. We ordered the Mongolian beef and the twice cooked pork. $33. The Mongolian beef was pretty mild in flavor and tasted more like a Moo Shoo beef. But the twice cooked pork was very amazing and we'll be getting that again. The robot delivery and noodle display were pretty cool but even better was the live person making fresh dumplings!! We'll have to try that soon! The staff were courteous and attentive and friendly. Delicious find to have lunch at while taking a trip out to Santa Fe! Been seeking by this place on social media and had to stop by! Parking is super tricky. The picture they posted where to park was no true. It's a hotel parking lot where they charged $25. I was not going to pay that. So decided to park a bit further. When we got to the restaurant the inside had a cool robot cat that delivered food and drinks! The inside was clean. The staff were good. There was a lady making dumplings where you can see. I thought that was good! Minus the part where she wasn't wearing no gloves. I assume her hands were clean but things under the finger nails is what will gross me out. Bacteria and dust...Food came out fairly quickly minus the pork wonton. That takes a while to cook. The mapo tofu was flavorful with the ground pork. The sesame chicken was delicious! And the wonton was okay. I wish the outside was steamed or cooked a bit more. Has a little bit of a weird taste to it, but overall I would probably come back to try other items. read more

Food was alright, but watch out for the robot that rolls around helping to deliver food and carry dirty dishes. We watched glasses and beer bottles fall off it's tray and shatter...4 times tonight. One of them was a full beer that hit the floor, exploding onto a child right next to us. It ruined that family's dinner and ours, for all the disruption. I used to order from Zeng frequently. However, lately , whoever is cooking has no concept of what an authentic Szechuan dish is. An example would be; I ordered Szechuan beef and vegetables and instead got beef and broccoli with some hot peppers thrown in. This is not an authentic Szechuan dish - it has a clear sauce with way too much cornstarch and had no Szechuan spice. Very disappointing. Let me start off by saying the food at this restaurant was the best Chinese my family and I have eaten in the 11 years since moving to New Mexico. From the start the won ton soup was fresh and rich in flavor. The food and service were very good on our visit to Zeng. Three of us walked in at 7pm on a Tuesday and were seated immediately. The restaurant has a bright, diner feel with comfortable booths that are great for groups because you can enter from either side of the booth (small but useful feature!). The waiter suggested that we chose from the specials page because they were more authentic Chinese dishes and the pretty, printed picture pages were more American. I ordered hot and sour soup to start. It was good, pretty typical for what you get in most Chinese restaurants. My wife ordered wonton soup, which she thought would be an appetizer-sized bowl. She didn't notice that the wonton soup is actually an entree item on the menu. It was a large bowl of soup with 5 or 6 pork wontons. It was excellent and we ended up sharing it. For our entree, we ordered stir-fried cauliflower with pork from the specials menu. It was excellent. The menu has one spicy symbol and it was pretty hot. It had a lot of chopped dried hot peppers, which we removed because it was so hot. The cauliflower was nicely cooked, a little browned and still chewy. The flavors were really nice. It was plenty of food for 2 people. The third in our party ordered sesame chicken. It was very large serving that included steamed broccoli and rice. She said it was very good. My wife ordered green tea ice cream for dessert. It was good but not quite a flavorful as we've had at other places. Overall, the food was very good. The service was attentive and friendly and prices were reasonable. Zeng's is a great option when you're in Santa Fe and want something besides Mexican. read more

Their dim sum offerings are too limited. I asked about a couple of well-known dim sum plates and they didn't have them or knew about them. Good ambiance but the "robot" roaming around was loud and really not necessary for the size of the place. In a town that truly lacks dim sum offerings and with a size able population of savvy locals, they truly should review and expand what they offer. read more
