This was the first time for my wife and me, as we dined with a party of 6. We all enjoyed the food. The Sashimi Salad (half order) was huge, with a nice assortment of fish and a great dressing. We split a few rolls (Super Crunch, Dancing Spider,Dragon Z), and all were very good. One person who doesn't eat Sushi had the Teriyaki Chicken and said it was very good. As described by others, the interior seems to have gotten a drastic overhaul and the food seems better as well. It's now quite attractive and not cramped like I remember it being before. Edamame appetizer was good, the Superman roll was good but quite spicy (be ready), and the Yellowtail roll was very nice. But my spouse did not enjoy her Chicken Katsu and I tasted it and agreed. The chicken was fried beautifully but it had no flavor, nor was the provided sauce something really delicious either. We picked up lunch takeout today and were very happy with Izmi. I had the sushi platter and thought the spicy salmon roll and nigiri were all fresh and very good. My wife had the torched salmon and Alaska rolls and really liked both. I think the dishes that reflected and incorporated elements of the local cuisine stood out more and were more memorable. I remember my sister liking the little spunk green chile two they had. I used to love to come here but after having a baby it's hard to get into any restaurant so we have taken to pick up orders, but unfortunately the phone service here is terrible, we were about to place an order that would have been more than $200 only for the woman to rudley order me to use the online system, when I explained that I had tried that but the specific rolls I wanted were not on the online menus she said then I would have to dine in or order something else. Had the absolute worst service we've ever had in our lives. Party of two and it took nearly 20 minutes to get 1 cup of water. Didn't get a drink order taken until at least 30 minutes into the experience. Our server was very short with us and didn't seem to know what they were doing. Party of two next to us at the bar (who arrived after us) got drinks and apps way before us. We were given attitude not only by our server but by the older sushi chef behind the bar. Our server brought us part of our order while on the phone taking another order and didn't bother explaining which roll was which or saying anything at all. When we tried asking the sushi chef, he simply said "you got what you ordered" and handed us a nasty greasy receipt of our order. When it finally came time to cash out, no receipt or pen was offered, so at least the server knew not to expect a tip. The food was honestly pretty good, and the restaurant is beautiful in a great part of town, unfortunately the service completely ruined the experience and we will not be returning nor recommending this place. read more

OH SO GOOD!! There were only two things keeping this joint from a 5. The hours were incorrect on their Yelp site. They are not open for lunch on Saturday but are open for supper. Also, they have this weird key strapped to a bowl for the ladies restroom which is tacked next to the front door. Not a good look. Those points aside, the restaurant is cozy, the vibe is local and the staff are super on point. We had some amazing rolls and all the fish was delectable. When I visited Santa Fe for business, I was excited to try out some new food there. But, since I am not really a big fan of Mexican-type food, I instead decided to try out some Japanese food. I know, going to Asian restaurant while in Santa Fe... I might be unusual, but at I know what I like. So, I wanted go to a restaurant that was Japanese owned and operated (which DOES exist in Santa Fe!), but it was closed on this day. Instead, I went to this place, Izmi, not owned/operated by Japanese, but came with high reviews. I sat at the sushi bar, as I was only going to order sushi items. The sushi chef who is also the owner of this restaurant was busy making sushi with his mother (?) I think. He didn't look up or greet me in any way...I heard he is only friendly to regulars, and from what I witnessed, that might be true. I did not get any warm, welcoming vibe from him. But the staffs and another customer sitting at the counter were all nice. I started off with some nigiri sushi, Salmon, Tuna, and Ikura. They were a bit pricey, but common for tourists-heavy town. But, I am always willing to pay more for high quality food. I read a sign right outside that said "More Fish, Less Rice" and that sign was so true to what I witnessed. It had really nice, thick slice of tuna on top of small amount of rice. The portion of raw fish against rice was amazing! I also ordered two rolls, Spicy Tuna and New Mexico. They were fat rolls, and that made it a bit difficult to eat. The portion is nice, but the flavor was lacking in some much needed "spicy" taste. At the end, I really enjoyed the regular sushi pieces, not so much the rolls. The nigiri sushi pieces are awesome! I would recommend the nigiri for sure. High quality, and you will certainly get good, thick slices of sashimi on the rice. Oh, and they have this strict "No Cell Phone" rule, which I thought was unusual. When I was taking photos of the sushi with my phone, I was told of this rule too. Fairly quiet for a Friday night in the plaza which we were pleasantly surprised by. It wasn't chock full of tourists. The service was ok. Not super attentive, but not a huge wait either. The food was great!! We ordered I think 7 or 8 different rolls for the 3 of us and cleared all the plates. We enjoyed every single roll they put in front of us. If I lived in Santa Fe this would be my spot! The parking at the plaza can be a bit annoying but you can park at the library nearby after hours and pay and you're right next door. I was hesitant to share this review because I don't want too many people to know about this place, but it's awesome and they deserve your business! read more

We placed a to-go order by stopping in right when they opened. We had several issues with our experience that could have been overlooked like the fact that the rice wasn't ready for 25 minutes after the ETA for the order and that they were out of many of the regular menu items that we wanted. We could also get over the gruffnes/impoliteness of the sushi chef, however the final straw was that half of the fish we did receive was dried out and spoiled and although we did not eat those pieces after realizing their state, one of us still had an upset stomach in the morning. It's a same intimate place we're a person can enjoy dinner in a peaceful setting. They have a big menu with lots of items to choose from. Staff all wore mask, and kept customers at a suitable distance. Our order came out promptly and everything was delicious.
