I was so hungry that I just pointed to whatever was on the menu/leaflet presented on a small poster on the table. And..I was glad I picked that! Looking back, I think it was a fried longanisa set or something. The food was good and hit my spot for sure. The set had chips as appetizers (I think you get them anyways regardless of what you order), soup and a nice/large set of the food. I liked that the fried longanisa was fresh off the stove and not soggy at all. It was so satisfying eating that with salad/rice....and the soup! Overall, I liked what I got! The only thing was..it was a lil mild. I wish I had gotten something with more spice/interesting taste to it. Although very simple, the flavor was very delicious (I think they use some meat juices for cooking or something). I also ordered a cup of black coffee. If you are a coffee drinker, do yourself a favor and get it every time in Mexico. I normally don't drink coffee black, but I guess that's because I've been drinking the wrong coffee. :P The coffee was very smooth and smelled strongly of cinnamon. Delicious! We were offered free bread and tortillas with our meal. I didn't eat the tortillas because I was full, but the bread was that perfect, pillowy soft kind with a flaky shell. The bill was very affordable at around $6 per person. Gotta love the exchange rate!

Although many reviews here on a number of years old, they are very current in terms of the quality of the dining experience. I'm even surprised they don't have more reviews here, but IYKYK. Certainly the other diners would found their way here were tipped off somehow, because we overheard and met mostly Americans here -- though some locals, too. The drinks are great, and I'd recommend the Mezcalina Mango. It's tangy, a bit sweet and a bit strong which combined for a refreshing welcome. We also ordered a Sangria, I think, which won approval, too. The menu was via QR code, so I may be occasionally mistaken. However, our appetizer was definitely (I think) the chalupas. Three of each (chicken and pork), all in a verde sauce. I believe we had the chalupas de casa, as they came with the queso cotija. Regardless, very good and whet our ravenous appetites. The croquetas were crisp and rich, and the squash blossoms were one of the more interesting things on the table. We also ordered pizza. The crust had a nice char and chew, and the toppings were generous. I enjoyed it, although a couple of my coworkers were a little less enthusiastic. For me, the smaller plates stood out more. The room was lively, and the mix of vintage plates, copper-toned tables, and simple details gave the space a lot of personality. I also liked how naturally the menu lent itself to passing plates around and trying a little of everything. I'm glad we checked it out, especially because Lardo comes up often when people talk about eating in Mexico City. I'd happily come back and explore more of the smaller plates.
