Loved my experience dining here during the World Cup!…read more Azul was recommended by one of my colleagues from Mexico City and had great reviews, I decided to stop by since I stayed nearby. I came on a weekday and was seated very quickly. My lovely waiter explained the menu and highlighted some popular items. I ordered the guacamole, tortilla soup, duck dumpling mole, and tres leches for dessert. Everything was phenomenal, and the guac was out of this world! I enjoyed the presentation and the decor in the restaurant, I'd love to come back!

During a family trip to Mexico City, one of the places I was most excited to visit was Azul Histórico. I live in New York, and I had been looking forward to enjoying authentic Mexican chile rellenos at such a renowned restaurant. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The colonial courtyard creates a magical atmosphere, and the service was excellent from the moment we arrived. I also have to mention that the drinks were delicious and beautifully prepared. Unfortunately, the chile rellenos didn't meet our expectations. My mom and I both ordered them, and we agreed that they were served quite cold and didn't taste fresh. The staff kindly offered to replace our meals, which we truly appreciated, but I decided not to. Instead, I ended up eating some of my daughter's meal since I knew she wouldn't finish it. Thankfully, the rest of my family had a wonderful dining experience. My dad, my husband, and my daughter all loved their meals and were very happy with what they ordered. We finished the evening with desserts, coffee, and hot chocolate, and everything was absolutely delicious. Overall, Azul Histórico offers a stunning setting and outstanding service. While my entrée wasn't what I had hoped for, the rest of the meal and the time spent with my family made it a memorable experience. I'd gladly return to try other dishes from the menu.

We came as part of a tour after visiting the pyramids, so unfortunately we were on a pretty tight schedule. We arrived around 12 PM and were scheduled to be picked up at 2 PM. We communicated that to our server, but our food didn't arrive until around 1:30, which meant we basically had to inhale our meal before running back to meet our tour. I really wish we'd had more time to sit and enjoy everything. Now my one personal grievance: WHERE IS THE SPICY SALSA?! We're in Mexico, I need to feel something!! I asked our server why nothing was spicy, and he told me it was because of tourism. -.- I ended up paying extra for them to roast some peppers for me just so I could get some heat. Spice crisis aside, the food was delicious. I started with a bowl of consomé, which absolutely hit the spot after climbing the pyramids, and I had the mole verde for my main dish. My partner ordered the steak, and we both really enjoyed our meals. One thing to keep in mind is the pricing. It's definitely on the touristy side and closer to what you'd expect to pay at a restaurant in the U.S. You're paying for the setting and overall experience in addition to the food, so don't necessarily come expecting inexpensive Mexico prices. One of my favorite touches came at the end of the meal. They give you a candle to place among the rocks, representing a new beginning. I thought that was such a sweet and meaningful way to end the experience. Overall, the food was amazing and the space is genuinely gorgeous. I would recommend experiencing it at least once--just give yourself plenty of time, expect U.S.-ish pricing, and if you're a spicy girl like me, prepare yourself for the tourist-level salsa situation.

The food was decent, and for around $25 USD, it felt basic. You're mainly paying for the experience…read moreof dining inside a cave. The chilaquiles were bland and slightly warm. The vanilla pan dulce also tasted a little stale. On the other hand, the fruta mixta was fresh and one of the better parts of the meal. The setting is unique, which makes this place stand out. Eating inside a cave creates a cool atmosphere that you do not get at a typical restaurant. However, the food does not match the price point.
