Doorman demanded a donation for entrance fee. It's not a donation of you are forced to pay. Worst $20 ever spent btw. Drinks were tiny but reasonably priced for a strip club. There were no dancers on the stage at all. In the course of 45 minutes, literally 2 dancers appeared on stage for less than one song each. One dancer seemed emaciated and strung out, the other was overweight and seemed self-conscious about it. This was at 9pm on a Friday night, mind you. What a waste. read more

I can only speak to the times I've been to shows in the upstairs room, but oh "what a time it was, a time of innocence, a time of consequences." One time, at a stag-ette, a beautiful drag queen picked me up and spun me over her head like a baton. Other times I've been here for rawcus, feminist, circus inspired burlesque. All of it was good. This is the only place I know of downtown with a nudity license so you can see the whole glorious shape of human bodies in a safe and celebratory environment. I am 22 female and disable with Cerebral Palsy hemiplegia, with that i walk with a limp. My first time at this place was what I would call discrimination for my genetics and my disability. I HAVE identification when they asked me to show it i did. They took it and still refused me. My husband was with me and still refused me even when he tried to get one of the bouncers to understand that i do look young for my age (22) even when it says it on my International State License. From what i understand, Canadas law for strip clubs is 18 years old. They dont have a scanner to verify identification? This is discrimination and it cost me my entire night just for the fact that I limp and have a youthful complexion. 100% would NEVER recommend. read more

Ok, let me start out by saying that this is just about the best contact strip club in Montreal bang for your buck. Compared to other clubs ($20 + $5) each time, this is only $10 per song. OKAY. No freaking shame here. I came here last night and had a great time. I'm pretty sure this place is one of those places that tries to be classy, but not that hard. The bouncers are dressed in suits and... Uh, I guess thats where the "classy" ends. The girls here are not the type of girls you'd associate with a strip joint. Out of the ones I saw I'd say 1/3 were plus sized which I think is fantastic. A few were covered in tattoos and another few of them kinda had that hipster look, and a few were definitely older than 30. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and Cleopatra Cafe must agree. End rant. I bought my boyfriend a dance which was $20. The girl was very pushy and made it obvious that uh, this place is full contact. Definitely. I guess the pushy-ness is to be expected at a strip joint. My boyfriend said he enjoyed the dance. The girl also commented that he has a cool girlfriend. I concur. This place had a really great atmosphere and mix of people. College students, lots of girls surprisingly, some older dudes but none of which gave me the creeps. Lots of people were bold enough to go on stage with money in their mouth looking for some action which makes for an entertaining (and hilarious) time. Drinks were wicked expensive though, $8 per mixed drink. Ouch. Oh and to top our experience off my boyfriend lost his wallet and there were 2 bouncers helping us look for it and a few of the girls too. She ignored my questions because I was speaking English and refused to give me and my friends a glass of water, saying "If we want water, we can go somewhere else." This was an experience I will never forget as the memories are permanently engraved into my brain. What's seen can not be unseen. I have been to strip clubs all over the world, seeing the most beautiful women. This place is NOT one of these strip clubs. We walked in and we were immediately overwhelmed with pity, sorrow and regret. The kind bartender took a pity on us trying to order drinks and explained that if we just waited 5 minutes till their promotion kicked in, we would have gotten buy 1 get one free drink promo. And so 5 minutes later, armed with 2 drinks each, we seated our asses at what appeared to be the only clean looking table. And then the show started ! I had such mixed feelings about it. On stage, woman who was clearly well past my mom's age, was moving at a speed of a turtle doing the tricks that could require her to have a hip replacement any minute now. It was gruesome but captivating in a sick way. I was holding my cell phone nearby watching this dangerous activity like a spider watches a fly, in case the hip did go out and we had to call canadian 911. Luckily we went to a medical conference and did have multiple doctors in our group. The only decent looking stripper looked like a straight up jersey shore escapee. If you want beautiful supermodel women and came to see incredible bombshells, you will find none of that here. The experience would have been considered a horrible one, but all of my friends were so miserable and cranky and irritated that it made up for it. I guess you can say I am a horrible person, but I really enjoyed their misery (JK). Plus, it's a historic venue, you can't argue with that ! I thought I entered a rift in time and space when I stepped in Cafe Cleopatra and was whisked back to starting base of Cleveland, OH. Was this not the Lido Lounge? Does time and space exist? I came for the show, not the girls. My only purpose to go to Café Cleopatre was to check out my friend's burlesque show, Diary of a Lost Circus. While I saw some girls strip, these girls left their pasties and undies on, others were fully-clothed playing instruments or did a dance number. I never got an opportunity to check out the strip bar downstairs as the burlesque show was held upstairs, which is a drag bar. The upstairs feels like an old tavern, and you'd never guess that there was a strip bar downstairs. The layout is good: two bars located on either end of the room and the large stage in the centre. You can sit anywhere and not get a bad view of the show. At the end of the show, we were given an impromptu performance by two of the drag queens that were working that night as our hostess and server. It's probably the only show I'll ever see at the Café. In recent months, much press has been brought to the Cafe's plight: plans to close the strip club have been in the works for some months, thanks to the mayor's urban revamp of the neighbourhood. The building dates back to 1895 and the Café is known to be sympathetic towards its employees who have worked way past their "due date". The inevitable closure of the building and rumours of demolishing it has prompted an online petition is you want to check it out here: http://www.savethemain.com/ This is a real shame that this place will close because the staff was very friendly. Everyone from one of the pretty drag queens who served me my drinks, to the guy in coat check, and the manager. It's sad to know that these people who called this establishment their home be out of a job in the next few months. Even if strip bars isn't your thing, Cafe Cleopatre is definitely worth checking out, at least the upstairs. You'll see ladies who know more beauty tips than most women do, give you all that their best show that they've ever performed. It's worth it to see it. read more

Can't say I'm a conoisseur of the strip clubs, but of the few that I visited on my visit to Montreal I'd rank them thus: 1. Solid Gold = cream of the crop: beautiful women, skilled dancing, nice atmosphere 2. Cafe Cleopatra = cream of the crap: women of all ages (some with perky breasts and some with breast to the knees), dancing that consists of spinning circles around the pole (i think they were getting dizzy), down and dirty atmosphere Overall though this place was rocking because apparently $10 CAD is a great bang for your buck per dance (one song is a dance). Watch out though because they are hustlers. I saw many a person head to the ATM after their dance. So after your clothes get soiled with bodily fluids of all sorts, you get the walk of shame to the ATM because 10 songs went by and you're $100CAD deep in debt. Tucked away in an otherwise wiped red light district, Cafe Cleo is (in my humble opinion) one of the most important adult entertainment institutions in Montreal. Why does it still stand? Good question! In the 2000s while the city was busy expropriating other red light businesses in the area, Cafe Cleo was the only business that stood up to the gentrification of the area. The expropriation case was brought to the supreme court and it was ruled, in Cafe Cleo's favour, that a city can not displace one private interest (aka a strip club) in favour of another private interest (i.e. fancy pants quartier des spectacles businesses). After the expropriation was overruled, the city finally allocated all of the building permits they had been denying to the business (in an effort to render it to the point of demolition) and kindly suggested they upgrade the building while the rest of the neighbourhood was getting fancier. You'll be happy to know they've kept the gritty, occasionally sticky, glory of the place to this day. The club continues, on the first floor, to bring in the biggest diversity of dancers and some of the more reasonable covers for the city. On the top floor you'll find the wildest acts in the city- House of Laureen and Glam Glam being two of my favourite groups to perform. As others have mentioned, Cafe Cleo is one of the only performance spaces that allows full nudity- for drag, burlesque and vaudeville, that's a big deal. Finally, the upper venue is almost entirely run by trans and queer folks and it's been that way for a long time: I can't emphasize how important that is. Long live Cleo. read more

To cut right to it: apparently dancers pay to come in(entrance fee) and then market themselves by dancing on stage or starting conversation around you. You can politely ask for a private dance and pay 10CAD. And tip is optional. It's a contact club, so if you want, you can touch, you can talk... Or you can sit there and do nothing. read more

Utterly boring. No one on stage when we walked in. The place was completely devoid of talent (or they're talented at hiding their talents?) We paid $10 to the bouncer for two of us, meh, they should've just called it a cover... I'm not joking, in the 45 minutes I was there , only about 3 girls took to the stage. All 3 girls walked slowly around the stage and didn't do much dancing, let alone stripping. There wasn't much nudity and the blank, dead stares on the dancers faces depressed me. I wanted to at least think it was funny... But it wasn't. It was mostly sad. This is one of those instances where you don't want to try to be cool by doing what the locals do. It is really important to tip the doorman and the waitress. The best girls are after 8PM, before this time you must cross your fingers to see a beautiful girl. A few months ago there was a fit girl, she was pretty hot: toned body, amazing legs and abs, a real fantasy for all guys who like fit women. 100% an extras club! You walk in, and a strong smell of mold hits you in the face. No VIP, no erotic beds. The women all! look very unhealthy. The stage shows are boring, and the women look suicidal while dancing. The atmosphere is terrible. I was dragged here 3 times. The first time was out of curiosity, the other two times were with different friends who heard it was insanely awful (which I assured them was true, but they still wanted to see it with their own eyes), and jokingly wanted to see how bad it could really be. With out getting too into every ridiculously messed up aspect. I'll say this. Every time (I mean EVERY TIME) a women came up to us their sales pitch was that we'll get our dicks sucked, or we'll be jerked off if we go with them to a filthy little booth. Let me preface this review by saying that I dislike strip clubs... and no, it's not because I'm a sex-negative feminist or to appear a gentlemen (you will quickly figure out I am not). I'm a strip club burnout - I've been going to peeler joints since I was 16 (it was cool then, seriously). I had a few friends in the industry so it was it quickly became routine after the 'hookup' angle wore off. And a few of my business associates only conduct meetings at strip joints. And I spent a lot of time in Vegas when I was younger. So - ya - I get the same excitement going to a peeler joint now as going down to the post office. (shrug) But I honestly was not going to go to Montreal without visiting at least one strip club. I'm Vancouver - a city famous for vice - and I've heard of the war stories from people returning from trips/bachelor parties from Montreal. I just had to see what the big deal was. So - I grudgingly did some quick research and picked Cleopatra - largely based on Mike W's excellent review. Largely picked this joint because it's a locals joint and I never liked the 'upscale', glitzy strip clubs (i.e. Spearmint Rhino). There is no bigger lie than a 'gentlemen's club'. If you're a Vancouverite - I was looking for the Montreal equivalent of No. 5 Orange - not Brandi's. If you've been to Vegas - I was looking more for that seedy little joint by McCarran (which has no name because it doesn't have a website) rather than Sapphire's. So all the strip joints in Ste-Catherine were no-go zones - total tourist traps... especially with places named 'Super Sexe'. The bouncer was predictably surly but was pretty helpful. There's no cover but he asked for a tip, I slipped him a blue-note (I'm a baller)... he wasn't satisfied so I dropped a Macdonald for the three of us. As expected, the performers here are kinda 'B-grade' at joints like this - but I just don't like plastic and you'll have a better time at places like this. Plenty of girls working on weekend night and this joint is definitely for the locals. I saw the same narcoleptic old man Mike W. mentioned in his review - no exaggeration, the man would nap, drink from one of the many beers in front of him and occasionally stagger to/from the stage seats and go back to sleep. We got there during happy hour and I was told told it was 2-for-1 - sweet - so I order and pay for the first round: $18 for 3 bottles of Budweiser (it was a white trash kinda night). Then the gears started churning - wait - she charged us $9 for a bottle of Bud? On the second round, the waitress in her limited English said she misunderstood thought I wanted to full price rather than buy 3 for 2. Did we look that stupid? So I asked if she can just bring us the remaining 3 beers we were owed since I already bought 3. She says okay... and then returns with 6 bottles of Bud and asks for $18 again. Ugh. At this point, I was tired of the language barrier and just took all the beers. Oh well - at the average price of $4 a bottle - whatever. So - after getting about 5 beers deep in about 40 minutes (my tablemates didn't want to forcefeed themselves 3 bottles of crappy Bud each before hitting a club) - I figured - alright. Let's get a lap dance before we go. I scan... I survey... hmm... none of the girls seem to be hustling at all. I know we were at a co-ed table and you have to be aggressive at a place like this - but the place was dead and they were just standing around and chatting. Bleh - fuck it - $10 'full contact' lap dance will wait for another day. But good if you don't like pushy dancers. So I just admired the stage show and just bullshitted with some of the locals at nearby table celebrating retirement. Got to chatting about one of the dancer's assets and F1 - then one of the older gentlemen asks me, "Do you know the secret of being a good father?" ... I was expecting him to give me the Chris Rock bit: "You're a good daddy as long as your daughter doesn't wind up on the pole." But he dropped some knowledge. He dropped some sagely wisdom - I bought the man a shot as a sign of my gratitude, shook his hand and left for the next destination. So - I didn't get a lapdance at Cleopatra - but I did get parenting advice. (shrug) read more

This place is horrible! The women working here had to be some of the ugliest strippers in Montreal! I assumed that going to a place that that had less attractive strippers would mean that the women would try that much harder to earn their money. That was not the case here! I think there were numerous strippers who were well into their 50's. Also, I was approached by a stripper who weighed approx 200 lbs who a agreed to get lap dance from. One major problem, she almost didn't fit into the booth. Also, she emitted a very unpleasant odor from some of her feminine parts. Overall, not a good experience. Down, dirty but a great bargain. Came here w a bachelor party (of course). No cover charge, drinks were 'normal' NYC prices. Small dancing area with 4 poles. Ratio of hot to not on the talent was 25-75 (which is acceptable in my book). A few of the girls had definitely gone here to die and getting that dance for your buddy is priceless. I think it's safe to say this is more of a local spot...girls look like they've had a little more mileage on them, the facility doesn't feel as clean, and the crowd is a little creepier than some of the more touristy spots in the city. Just came back from Montreal last week, end of June 2018. Folks, some of these posts are, to put mildly, BS. No one has ever been thrown out due to not buying enough drinks! I have been going for 12 years now, get to see anyone get tossed period. Second, don't go before 2pm or around 7pm, those are quiet, in between times for the women. Always tip the doorman, bartender and waitress. Older women perform earlier in the day, but some younger ones do too. Supersex is closed for good, Downtown and Chez Pare are better places with hotter women, true, but also more expensive and some women in those clubs very snobby. Cleopatras is a good place with friendly staff. It's been my experience that most bad reviews come from people who aren't exactly telling the whole truth about their experience. Allot of those reviews come from people who have never been to Canada before and don't know enough about the club to comment on them. read more

Been coming here since 1987. The atmosphere hasn't changed in 40 years and the club is laid back without bouncers glaring at the patrons every 10 seconds. The girls are mostly natural with some well into their thirties and even forties. No problem though as there are plenty of 20-something dancers too. Many nationalities represented here, which is very cool. Not a lot of fake boobs either, which makes it even better. If you are looking for plastic girls with plastic attitudes, this is not your place. I've had many classic moments at Cleo including witnessing one patron who bogarted an entire joint while sitting at the stage without anyone even noticing! That was Cleo pre-smoking ban. Still strange to walk into a strip joint and not see patrons smoking! Cleo downstairs is one cool joint that keeps the flame burning for me after the legendary Club Scandal closed due to fire and Club Du Sexe closed in the early 1990's. read more

My first time was in February, the cover was $5 (you had to tip the bouncer, although I don't really agree with that since they just stand there). A bit less classy than anticipated, but not the worst place

Pros: the girls were pretty (not everyone was perfect and some were older, but don't be so picky) the dances were only $10 a song and there was no pressure to buy dances or drinks. Cons: the booth dances are not only nothing special but less than many other US clubs I've been to, also the booths are narrow which inhibits grinding a bit A bunch of buddies and I went to Montreal to finally get a taste of the crazy liberal city where the strippers are wild and crazy. We chose cafe cleo for its sold history and its local following. 2 in our group got test booth dances and both were disappointed. The grinding was nice enough but there was very restricted touching or her. The girl I was with never took off her top after 5 dances until I basically got up to leave in disappointment. And she never took off her bottoms. Then more false promises but no action. Spent $60 for little more than what i could have seen in the front row for free. No one in our group had any qualms about price we all have decent jobs and are glad to pay for quality. We just didn't want to pay half a dozen girls for false hopes until we by chance found the one girl that liked her job. In the US (and Niagara ON) nude means nude in the booths from the start. Just expected more in the infamous Montreal clubs. read more
