It was next to my hotel so I ate there twice. The food was decent for what it was. I was able to find gluten free options, even though most choices have bread or are pastries. The service was good, not everyone spoke english but they did their best to help

Great breakfast spot, nice window seating. Food and drink options are great! Service is fast and friendly. Restrooms are clean. Bar and restaurant option. It's cheaper to order from bar but it's a nice experience to seat at the restaurant.

A 131 year old restaurant? Yes please! Conveniently located next to a metro station is Café Comercial. From the outside, I had concerns this would be too touristy and/or too pricey. There are two sides of the restaurant- a bar and restaurant through another set of doors. I casually walked by twice to weigh my options before committing to breakfast. The dining area is filled with tables. Due to its seeming popularity, sitting at a table for four when there are two of you is discouraged. I was a party of one so seated at a two-top. Shortly after, a couple seated themselves at a four-top. The waitress politely asked them to move to a table for two but the couple refused as they said most tables were empty. It was entertaining to watch the interaction, especially when the restaurant proceeded to fill up ten minutes later only validating the waitress's statement. She provided excellent service. The food is great. I ordered a coffee with milk and a open-faced sandwich of bread with cheese, avocado and turkey. I hadn't realized the sandwich would be cold or that I'd ordered turkey for that matter, but it could have been a result of my stubbornness to use an English menu instead of Spanish to prove I could order something... regardless, it was delicious!

Already gone back! Everyone needs to try the papas bravas. Love the overall vibe. I recommend the burger, burrata and papas bravas!

Excellent shrimp croquettes and calamari sandwich! Grab a chair outside to people watch. Madly obsessed with croquettes!!! And of course chocolate and churros. This food is brilliant and delicious. Here you see cafe con soya leche, chocolate y churros, croquettas camarones, bocadillo calamari, and croquettas jamon! Sights are great, but eating is my favorite. (As seen on Ainsley's Eats Street Food)

I often stopped by here for breakfast as it is not far from the area where I was staying. I would certainly recommend Cafe Comercial if you are in the area. The food is good, basic fare that is typical of many traditional cafes around Madrid. My favourite is the fried bread with egg and ham. Cafe Comercial has a wonderful airy interior and is apparently the oldest of its kind still operating in Madrid. It now has an internet cafe upstairs and wifi connection.

My espresso martini was too sweet for my liking but I'd definitely come back and order something else.

This chocolateria has been in business for over 130 years, so it was probably safe to assume they…read moreknow how to make chocolate and just as essentially, the churros upon which their chocolate clings. Based on the definitive opinions of travel vloggers, this appeared to be the place to get the fabled chocolate con churros. Jamie W and I made our way here through the labyrinth of streets near Puerta del Sol. It was early evening so no surprise there was a queue, but it moved quickly because this historic place was a model of efficiency. It's the type of place where you need to be ready to order the moment you're in front of the hostess. Luckily, we had made mental notes of what to order from one particular vlogger, so we were ready. It only took a minute to secure one of their marble cafe tables. Our order arrived fairly quickly. It consisted of a 2,5€ plate of Churros, six long sticks of chewy, delicious dough. Unlike the Mexican version, it wasn't dusted with sugar because the 3,7€ cup of Hot Chocolate was more than enough (Photo 8). Incredibly rich and only lightly sweetened. The churros might've been enough for a neophyte, but we double-downed with a 2,5€ order of two Porros (Photo 7). Porras are a thicker, doughier version of churros, so of course, they were our favorites because they really held the chocolate with assurance. Even though we went through two cups of hot chocolate, we still had 2,4€ cups of Cafes con Leche to wash it all down (Photo 10). It was an ideal dessert experience because who doesn't love awesome doughnuts? Definitely a must-gorge when in Madrid. FOOD - 5 stars...the motherlode when it comes to chocolate con churros...get the porros AMBIANCE - 4 stars...crowded but historically atmospheric with enough elbow room SERVICE - 4 stars...speedy TOTAL - 5 stars...pretty essential Madrid experience RELATED - Exploring Madrid? Stepping into the alley feels like you're entering a vintage postcard. The workers were nice and I had a very pleasant time enjoying my churros and admiring the history and decor inside.
