We stopped in for dinner and we were not disappointed! Our server was quite knowledgeable about the menu. Of course he upsold us to better, but FRESHER items. The first recommendation was fresh Mussels for our appetizer. It had thr most delicious lemon sauce and was well over two dozen of the crustaceans. For our main course, I had the Portuguese Paella, which was saucer, and has Crab, Mussels and Clams. The other upsell was fresh Grilled Swordfish. No exaggeration, but the Swordfish was the best we had ever tasted! Our server skillfully separated for fillets from the bones skillfully. Rhe Swordfish was buttery and melted in your mouth. The Paella was naturally messy, but top notched, flavorful and a large portion. We are planning to return to try more of the restaurant's offerings. read more

Nice little cafe with a super convenient location right in the heart of Rossio Square! They have a sit-down / dine-in section, as well as a quick service counter and takeaway option -- perfect for a quick visit or busy tourist! I popped in for a speedy breakfast on the way to a tour, and they were able to deliver a lovely hot americano, croissant, and pastel de bacalhau in about 5 minutes. The americano was solid (although the beans were a bit acidic), and croissant was flaky, and the pastel de bacalhau both crispy and soft. Despite being under a heat lamp, the two pastries were only slightly warm on the outside, but the center was cold. That wasn't an issue for the croissant, but it was a bit of a let-down for the pastel de bacalhau. All-around a decent, quick stop if you need some speedy fuel. read more

My husband and I ate here for breakfast. It was conveniently located near our hotel. I had the salmon, cream cheese on a bagel. Very delicious! My husband had a combo plate (eggs Benedict, yogurt with granola, fruit bowl, orange juice and coffee). I had the orange juice, we shared the yogurt with granola and fruit bowl (it was enough for two). Staff were friendly, courteous and great service! We sat outside, it was a bit windy but we were under the shade and the sun started to come out. If you are in the area, give this place a try. They have milkshakes and other sweet dishes. read more

Wow. The biggest tourist trap. I had 4 amazing food days when ended up at this place. The worst food. Every single dish out of 12 we ordered was inedible, tasteless, driest we had so far. This was a very disappointing experience. We expected much better from a country situated on the sea. How would you rate a restaurant who shows beautiful photos of fish dishes with prices but tells you it's frozen and if you want fresh fish it's a different price? Our dishes were very dry, tasteless and over cooked. Service was subpar. We kept having to summons the waiter. Ice was brought to us after our drinks were done. This place is a joke. We weren't greeted for 30 MINUTES after we sat down. Multiple other tables were seated and placed orders in that time. The food was mediocre, no one could really tell us which of the coffees we ordered was decaf and which was full caffeine (spoiler alert, they got it wrong), and there was a small piece of paper (coffee filter?) in my incorrect coffee order as well as a small piece of hair and an eyelash on the cup underneath it. This place needs a LOT of help. Maybe instead of two bussers and two servers they should have one busser and three servers? Either way- hard pass. read more

This restaurant has a variety of different sections where you can buy different foods. I went to the one serving pastries since they had a whole display of it from the window. However, I was disappointed in what they had. Their pastries tasted mediocre and didn't seem that fresh either. The service was also slow and they had an inefficient payment system where you get a card charged with what you bought and then you bring it to a cash register to check out. We decided to start with the Portuguese roll because that's one of the things Portugal is known for. Unfortunately, it didn't have any flavour and was very dry since there is no sauce on it. The pork chop was also quite thin so it was a little tough. Although there were lots of main dish options available, we were all enticed by the paellas so we decided to get two kinds. The Seafood paella was filled to the brim with bell peppers, peas, olives, shrimp, prawns, and mussels. The rice was fragrant from being seasoned with turmeric which was nice. We were all very impressed with this dish because it was so beautiful and colourful looking. It was also very delicious. The squid ink paella dish was a dark charcoal colour from the ink and it was a bit on the salty side. The dish also had peas, squid, shrimp, black olives and a few mussels. Although it was a squid ink paella, there wasn't a lot of squid in it. There also wasn't a lot of rice compared to the seafood paella we had so we were definitely underwhelmed when this came after the seafood version. read more

This restaurant had all the signs of a tourist trap, but our family was tired and hungry and the pictures on the menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. Out of all the meals we ate during our three weeks in Portugal and Spain, this was the worst. So bad that we are home now and still talking about it. Our server was not very helpful as he brought out the wrong dish and never did make it right, nor remove it from our check. Our steak was pale and chewy, our risotto was watery and the carbonara was flavorless. The only this Cafe Gelo has going for it is its location and being able to eat outside. Nothing compares to Pasteis de Belem in Lisbon for egg tarts but these were quite tasty anyway. A good flaky pastry but the custard was a bit thick. It is also the ONLY place in Portugal during 2 weeks of travel, where the waiter so "obviously hustled" for a tip that it was embarrassing. This is a good place in Rossio square near the Rossio train station for breakfast. They have many pastry options and a variety of coffee options. They also have traditional American breakfast items from eggs to bacon to toast to fruit cup etc. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and helpful service overall. read more

Came here twice in Lisbon, for espressos and breakfast. The tostada (toast) is amazing and reasonably priced. The bread is crispy, filling and delicious and I certainly recommend the tuna. You can get a huge piece of toast and a plate of chips for 3.70 Euros. Espressos are 1.20 Euros, but the cup is absolutely tiny so it is not necessarily good value for the money although it's one of the cheaper restaurants in Lisbon. Service is good and the waiters were very kind. Many people from the street approach you to purchase goods if you sit on the terrace, and the pigeons are kind of aggressive, so beware. read more
