Unfortunately i've only been going there at night, so can't comment on the natural light, but it's a bit dark at night. Studying with computers is OK, but reading is quite tricky. Food is not too bad, i would give it a 4/5. It's a bit understaff I find, and we've been waiting for a long time for our checks, for the guy to pass by again to order an extra item. I would recommend it for a snack/meal with a drink, I saw that on Fridays they have someone who comes in and play music !! It's a relax ambience. The espresso they serve is Café Napoléon, a Montréal roaster. The latte I ordered was very average, a bit too strong actually, and the croissant I got alongside it was unfortunately bland. My husband had a double espresso which he found acceptable, and a veggie sandwich he told me satisfied his hunger. I took a bite from it and did not particularly enjoy it; the bread and the marinated vegetables were very ordinary, especially for a $8 sandwich. I know plenty of places that sell better food and coffee for cheaper or equal prices, and find myself surprised that such a coffee shop would open and successfully sustain in St-Henri. I do hope the owners will find a better formula, else I'm tempted to predict a short life for Zec Café. I hope for them that I'm wrong.

The coffeeshop's decor gives the feeling that you are into the woods. The server was by herself and I was her only customer this morning. After I ordered a cappuccino, we chitchatted a bit about a postcard that I noticed on the shelf. It reminded my most memorable trip to Thailand. The server was very sweet; she asked me if I wanted cinnamon or chocolate over my cappuccino; it's really rare that someone asks me this. First of all, this place is popular so expect it to be crowded, every time I went to one of them on a weekend day, I had to wait a bit before getting seated. The seating at this location is especially cramped as I was almost shoulder to shoulder with the tables next to me. There's no ambiance music playing but it can get quite loud as everyone is seating near each other and tries to speak with their party. Onto the food, I had the Coco Casserole which consisted of potatoes mixed with swiss cheese, bacon, sausage and ham with an egg on top. Everything on that plate was delicious but I do wish the portion were sightly bigger considering the 16$ price tag that is attached to the plate. Forgot to mention that the service was quick once we were seated, I think it took less than 10 minutes after ordering to get out food so there's that also to consider if you see a lineup upon entering the place. Place was busy too for a weekday afternoon, with bikers stopping in for a quick bite. I don't ride bikes, I drink coffee..and that's why I decided to stop in! Besides the array of baked goods, sandwiches and salads, there was one item that really ci-haut my eye; they have a lavender latte??! What?! I grabbed a tall lavender coffee with almond milk for 5.50$ and sat on the little patio upfront to enjoy my java. The scent of lavender was intense upon my first sip but I quickly got accustomed to the odd flavour and thoroughly enjoyed my cup of joe; the espresso was not very acidic and the almond milk was perfectly sweet, so overall, this coffee was perfectly balanced! Maybe it was the lavender or maybe it was the summer like weather, but I felt totally zen and content. The price may be a little higher then other shops in the corner who offer better coffee but the scenic view and odd lavender coffee has intrigued me enough to return for the spiced latte...stay tuned.
