We were in Roma Norte awaiting friends for dinner when we decided to drop into Cafe Toscano to kill time over drinks (and dessert). Cafe Toscano has locations in Lomas, Polanco, Condesa, and of course, Roma Norte. The patio at this location is what attracted us. A+ vibes but lacking in food quality. On the hunt for dinner in the Roma neighborhood, there is no shortage of patio presence these days - but Cafe Toscano won over us because of the corner location and cozy but sultry ambiance. From the countless wine bottles lining the walls, quirky art, and plush couches, we felt this place was ready to deliver some serious eats. Cafe Toscano specializes in Italian cuisine. The English menu is located on a Google Drive document which can be accessed via QR code. We selected drinks and decided on a few plates to share, making some quick changes when we found out the charcuterie board was not available. We indulged in every juice type they had - including the Lassi (tasted good, but strangely similar to Danimals smoothie drinks). Drinks are good, but comparable to what you would get from any other cafe/bar in the area. The food was incredibly disappointing. The Ravioli was too doughy and cold, while the Eggplant Parmesana had no flavor at all despite the expert breading. The Tuna Steaks were way too salty but the accompanying green beans were more than palatable. The Margherita Pizza's ratio was a little off with a lot more cheese and not much sauce or tomatoes, but at least the crust was good. As with any slightly upscale place in a touristy neighborhood, service was excellent. Might come back for a cup of coffee or glass of wine outside, but certainly not for the main food. A very pleasant surprise. We well into Café Toscano for lunch after finding that a boutique we were looking for was closed for a holiday. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and we were seated after a very short wait. Our outdoor table faced a wonderful little park. The wait staff spoke perfect English, and we were soon served tasty enchiladas and bowls. All of the food was very well done, flavorful without frying your mouth, and we all had an enjoyable experience. The price of lunch, by New York standards, was a pittance, with the exception of the bottled water. Highly recommend! read more

Went to Cafe Toscano for breakfast with a friend after walking by it several times during our trip. We were able to be seated at a table outside overlooking the park, which made for a nice meal. To start, we went with the corn muffin with strawberry jam and a cinnamon roll--both of which were decent, but not the best we had in the city. We split an order of the french toast and chilaquiles. The chilaquiles were decent, but the french toast was the real winner here--great flavor and very tasty. Overall, this is an excellent spot for breakfast not only for the food, but for the view overlooking the beautiful park. read more

This place has very slow service. I was seated quickly. My coffee and juice came at a good time but my meal is taking extremely long. I'm believe it's been 40 min of me waiting and since then no waiters have come to check in. I'm still waiting for my breakfast. I would not recommend. Update: waitress had never put my order in! Then she tried to blame in on me that she didn't hear me when we had a whole dialogue about the different egg preparation avaialble. Please! Take responsibility. I left. Words cannot describe what a terrible experience I had at this cafe. I ordered a fresh puréed juice of guava, orange, pineapple, and mint. The juice tasted like an ordinary orange juice blended with espazote, without any tropical notes or mint detectable. So naturally I went to the bar to watch the drink making in person, request remediation, and offer suggestions. The battle to get a decent sprig of mint in a drink that was supposed to have mint was crazy, and a quick addition of a wedge of guava did the trick. I saw a procession of beautiful dishes, all cradled in consuelas, that looked flavor packed and expertly prepared. The first egg dish on the menu, which I ordered, stood out as an unappetizing plating of individualist components, a deconstructionist interpretation of British style eggs in the shell, dried melba toast instead of fresh corn tortillas, and a kindling of overcooked cold asparagus, as though a London chef from the 80s were transported into the Mexican establishment to mess with my meal. I sent that back to get a tempting dish another diner was enjoying. The other dishes around me looked flavor packed and expertly crafted. Instead of the dish I had observed, they brought me a bowl of cooking water with uncooked beans and a flavorless mess of submerged eggs. I could only surmise I was receiving a discriminatory experience because I was an American lawyer in receipt of an important message directed at my government. Perhaps I was to infer there were a flood of people of color requesting equitable treatment from my government, and that diplomatic huevos were required to keep the people of Mexico afloat to avoid some immigrastory quagmire? I left with food for thought, if not for digestion. read more

I had early lunch here today, the food was good. Our waiter, Juan, was excellent. Very attentive and well mannered. The reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because of the manager during our visit. She was extremely rude and condescending, making my mother and I uncomfortable multiple times throughout our visit. I would've enjoy the experience more had these interactions not occurred. This place is very casual and cozy. Came here for a light snack and hot chocolate. I'm lactose intolerant and the great thing is they have options lactose free milk and soy. Café Toscano is a restaurant overlooking Plaza Luis Cabrera in Roma Norte. The breakfast options are all delicious. I tried several different omelettes and pastries while staying in the neighborhood for a week - all of them were excellent. The cafe serves Illy brand coffee which was also very good.
