    After months of meaning to go to Cail Bruich, I spotted a deal from them offering a Chateaubriand meal for two with a bottle of Merlot for £42 and thought, why not?! I bought the voucher back in October but didn't use it until just after New Year. We headed along to the restaurant at 1pm on a Saturday and were greeted by a member of staff who quickly showed us to our table and took our voucher details. The restaurant itself is quite small, with only two or three other tables full when we arrived. The interior is all a deep, rich wood with drapes and cushions that add a really luxurious, classic feel to the place. After sitting down, it was around ten minutes before a member of staff approached us again, which felt a little like we had been forgotten about. Eventually we were asked if we would like any drinks before our meal and if we would like to look at the starters, and then brought over some canapés of haggis bon bons, olives, goats cheese tarts and Gruyère stuffed rolls. The haggis bon bons were super crisp and flavourful and the Gruyère rolls oozing with nutty, melted cheese. Shortly afterwards, we were brought a basket of warm, fresh bread and an Amuse Bouche of Mushroom and Coconut veloute with curry base and hazelnuts. At this point Sam and I were both pretty impressed - we hadn't expected all of these extra treats! I'm not a big mushroom fan and the veloute was quite powerful so I didn't enjoy it all that much, but the bread was really soft and delicious. The wine which came with the voucher was a bottle of Italian Merlot, which I had never really heard of before. Italian wines are not something that I would usually go for, and neither is Merlot, so I had my reservations, but it was actually really nice and it's actually one I might keep an eye out for. After all these unexpected extras, we were excited for our main meal, but this was, unfortunately, where things began to slip. We waited for what must have been nearing in on half an hour before our main course was brought to us. This seemed like a long time to wait, and we were getting pretty hungry. Luckily, the food was spectacular. Accompanying our Chateaubriand were big, chunky chips, bone marrow, confit tomato, roasted onion and pepper sauce. The chips were lovely and crisp on the outside and you could definitely taste the dripping they had been cooked in! The bone marrow, I avoided because the consistency of it was a bit unappealing, but the tomato and the onion were tender, sweet and a perfect accompaniment. The pepper sauce had a great consistency and a sweetness to it, and could have done with a little touch more heat. The beef itself was cooked medium rare, although I think Sam would have liked it a bit rarer! Though incredibly tender and flavourful, the sizes of the slices were a little uneven and it was clear these were the best slices out of two fillets - perhaps explaining why it took a little longer if the first one didn't go quite to plan. Regardless, the flavour and presentation of the main course was certainly there! For dessert, we went for "Lemon and Blackberry" - a lemon curd cheesecake with burnt meringue, fresh blackberries, and blackberry sorbet. Again, unfortunately, the service was very slow and although Sam ordered a coffee at the same time as the dessert, it for some reason didn't arrive until after we had eaten it. The dessert itself was beautifully presented and was incredibly fresh. The cheesecake was both creamy and zingy, the sorbet sweet and sharp, while the burnt meringue added a different texture and flavour to the dish. We asked for the bill and waited again to pay the extra £10 for dessert and coffee, and again to have our coats brought back to us. I don't want to focus too much on the negative because the quality of food was so high, but it is hard to ignore service so broken and slow. The restaurant was not particularly busy and it was frustrating seeing other diners around us receive much quicker service even though we ordered the same thing. I would definitely go back to Cail Bruich, purely based on the high standards of the food and drink we received - and also from taking a peak at the rest of the menu while choosing a dessert. I hope next time things run a little smoother - maybe they were still easing back into things after New Year!

    Cail Bruich has long been one of our favourite restaurants in Glasgow, on each of our two previous visit's we found the food and service to be of a high standard. A year had passed since our last visit so we booked in full of excitement to see if the restaurant was keeping up the high standards set before. Cail Bruich is a small family run restaurant on Great Western road (blink and you'll miss it). It serves modern Scottish cuisine with French cooking techniques.The restaurant has firm beliefs in using fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Since opening in 2006 the restaurant has gained a solid reputation and a string of awards. The restaurant currently has two AA rosettes; has earned a place on the Michelin guide; and in 2013 the restaurant won the Entertainment award: Scotland restaurant of the year. So finally after a years wait we finally were back at Cail Bruich. On arrival we were greeted by a new front of house waiter rather than the owner Paul, his welcome was warm and friendly and it felt as if he had being doing the job for years. The restaurant has a classy feel to it, in it's small dining room. We were taken to our seats and shown the menus for the night, where you can choose from the reasonably priced market menu, a la carte and a five or seven course tasting menu. We opted for the five course menu which is £40 per person, which we thought was great value. Here is what we had. Haggis bonbons; green olives; royal Parmesan gougers: The canapes were a delightful way to start the meal, our favourite had to be the haggis bonbon which was incredible rich and flavorsome, and a nice Scottish signature. Breads: A beautiful white french baguette, a cheese bread roll and a brown roll. All three were baked well and served warm, we were served with an additional portion to accompany the main course. Potato and leek velouté, lemon créme fresh: The velouté was silky smooth and packed full of flavour. The sharpness of the lemon cut through the smoothness of the velouté making it the perfect match. The sunflower seeds on top gave the dish an added crunch and texture, which again worked well. Salmon Ceviche, lettuce and wasabi puree, toasted rice, soy jelly: The salmon was incredibly soft and well seasoned. The puree was packed full of flavor and went well with the salmon. We weren't sure about the sound of the toasted rice but it was an unique twist and added another dimension to the dish. Scrabster coley, curried cauliflower, capers, raisins shellfish emulsion: Wow, this has to be the best dish we have tasted this year! The Coley was cooked perfectly and incredibly soft, the curried cauliflower added a bit of spice to the dish. There was a lot of different components to the dish but all worked and created a heavenly dish. We liked the aspect of creating the couscous from the cauliflower and having the capers to accompany this. Ox cheek, smoked potato, onion: The cheek was cooked well and had little fat, the jus was really rich and full of a pungent flavour. The potatoes were lovely and smooth and the smokey aspect was a nice change. A really good cheese board at an extra £8, well worth it as each cheese had a different taste, texture and small. The only complaint we had, was not having enough crackers but this may just be because we are greedy. Mango creme, exotic fruit, coconut sorbet, Valhorna chocolate, cremaux: This is not a desert we would normally choose from a menu; but when the dish arrived we were more than impressed. The various fruit flavors created an exotic tasting desert where we loved every mouthful. The coconut sorbet was a fantastic pallet cleanser, cutting through the incredibly rich chocolate cremaux. Wow, our first two visit's to Cail Bruich left us satisfied but this was an outstanding meal. Every course was presented and cooked to a very high standard. Some dishes had lots of different ingredients but each served a purpose and all worked perfectly together. We noticed some small changes such the new plates which we found added to the whole experience. The restaurant was full on the Tuesday night that we went, but we had no complaints at all about service and presentation. Each person that served us was very professional and knowledgeable about the menu's. Special mention to the head waiter, we never got his name but he is a credit to the restaurant, welcoming all guests warmly and attending to every need, they all done a first class job which is always great to see.     If you're looking for traditional or modern Scottish meals, Cail Bruich, Gaelic for "Eat Well", is well named, and the place you want to be! We ate here for my graduation meal - it was delicious! We ate off the Graduation lunch menu, which for £18.95 per person (decent). I had the black pudding (mmm....) for starter, and the Pork Chop for mains...the only thing better than eating the food was looking at it. The presentation was amazing! I almost didn't want to eat it but my stomach took over my brain... The place is lovely - we were greeted with a warm welcome, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed, exactly what I needed after my graduation ceremony. The staff were pleasant and courteous (we also had a good looking, banterous waiter, which of course, added to the whole experience...ahem - actually, all the wait staff looked professional and somewhat attractive... aah!). Look no further if you're in the business for a comfortable Scottish flavoured restaurant - this place is a must-visit, if not for the Crachan, then for the wait staff...

    I went here last week with my mum and dad and a couple of their friends who were up visiting from England. I'd only been once before but remembered how great the menu was and thought it would be a nice place to go for a Scottish meal - I wasn't wrong. At lunch time they offer a 3 course menu which includes three or four starters to choose from, five mains and three desserts. It's £14.95 for 2 courses or £17.95 for 3. There was a good choice of items (mains included pork, beef, hake and risotto) and between the 5 of us we tried most of the dishes. Every single one was delicious! Not long after we sat down we were brought four yummy appetisers each which included a haggis bon bon and a tiny but flavoursome salmon bite. Once we placed our ordered we were brought a large basket of warm bread rolls that were all different flavours, the cheese rolls were the best! And then we received some cauliflower velouté served I espresso cups, everyone loved it apart from me. It was served cold and had too strong a cauliflower taste for me, so my dad happily ate mine too. I had the mackerel to start which was served on a piece of grilled cucumber. Never thought I'd hear my self say it but grilled cucumber is very tasty. For my main I had the pork belly which was cooked perfectly and served with a light mustardy sauce, it reminded me of coronation chicken sauce but in a good way. For dessert I had the peanut bread and butter pudding which was served with grilled bananas and peanut butter ice cream. The ice cream was definitely the star of the show, I wish I was eating some now as I write this review! Will definitely be going back soon.

    I've been wanting to eat here since I tried your your delicious food at the food festival in Glasgow last September and I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant has a calm and intimate atmosphere with smart yet un-fussy tables and décor. The staff are warm, welcoming, relaxed, attentive and knowledgeable, and looked after is so well. The food was excellent: beautiful fresh and seasonal produce prepared perfectly, with a great balance of flavours, textures and seasoning. Highlights for me were the pea mousse; the smoked butter; the combination of the sweet duck breast and spiced date; and the strawberry sorbet. I was happy that I tried the English Nyetimber 2010 (bloody good) and enjoyed the spicy Côtes du Rhone recommended to accompany the duck. We enjoyed our meal and experience thoroughly and can't wait to come back for a tasting menu. Thanks to all of the team.

    As you can see from my earlier, The Brasserie @ The Oran Mor, review I seem to be more than a little apprehensive about entering new restaurants, especially if they are in the West End. This irrational fear and misgiving, is one that I have vowed to fight! For this reason, and this reason alone, me and my friend hot footed it here for lunch. And we're glad we did. The menu, even just the descriptions in the menu detailing each dish, is mouthwatering. While, the food is even better. The portions may look on the small side when your order arrives, but I guarantee you'll be struggling to finish it, despite the urge to lick your plate! Furthermore, the staff didn't even bat an eye when I lost the eating battle and requested a doggy bag - before then ordering desert. As Darryl mentioned, the staff are very professional, friendly and offer good reasonably paced service (none of this rushing you and swooping in to pick up plates and glasses that are barely finished). The prices are decent, although we did take full advantage of the lunch deal, and the wine good. This should definitely be high up there on the upcoming mother's day lunch/dinner list.

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon.

    A Hidden Gem on Ashton Lane…read more Located on the fabulous and trendy Ashton Lane, this place is anything but typical. From the moment you step in, you can tell you're in for something special. The atmosphere is gorgeous -- a bright glass ceiling, lush plants all around, and a rustic stone floor that creates the perfect mix of romantic and relaxed. It feels ideal for a date night but also welcoming for families and friends. The food here is definitely on the high-end side, and while the portions are small for the price, what you're really paying for is excellence. Every bite showcases the chefs' skill, creativity, and attention to detail. The quality and flavor are absolutely superb -- the kind of dining experience you simply won't find anywhere else. We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.

The menus are always fantastic, and they like to keep it all seasonal so the produce is as fresh and local as possible. There is a good variety of dishes for the munching, but there is usually only one vegetarian option available as a main course so if you have a veggie amongst your number, make sure to check the menu before you drag them in. I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas Lunch with my colleagues at this fine establishment. Everything was absolutely delicious. What I particularly like is that they have veg in bowls for passing around the group, rather than just dish them out regardless of people's preferences. You can have as much or as little as possible. Oh, and all their desserts are amazing, and they have different specials every week. The cheesecake is particularly good (and I shouldn't have it because of my lovely allergies), and they make their own tablet to go with the coffee! The waiting staff are ever attentive, filling your glass with the table wine whenever they spot an empty glass. They're always smiley and up for a chat as well! It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! Was my friends birthday meal here & 8 of us neatly packed in around one table on a busy Friday evening. Set menu at £16 for two courses and £18 for three (from memory!) They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. Will be back here to eat no doubt again & so should you! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

Tourists would flock and photograph it from every angle, creating albums on Facebook entitled "Me at St Andrews in the Square" to a sea of thumbs ups from friends who like it. Instead, this lovingly-restored 18th century church is inconspicuously located in among modern east end flats and virtually impossible to stumble across unless you are specifically looking for it. And what a pity, because when it's lit at night, it provides one of the most spectacular photo opportunities in the city. Those who do know this building, know it's one of the greatest classical churches in Europe with a truly sumptuous interior. Now used as a performing arts centre, St Andrews in the Square can also be hired as a spectacular setting for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings and receptions. Just go. I promise you will not be disappointed.

It seems to live in a sort of parallel universe, stuck in the middle of blocks of flats. I visited the cafe a few Sunday ago and, despite the sophisticated art deco style interior and impressive menu, the place was dead. I think this is because most people don't realise it's there.

    4.5 stars rounded up…read more Cast Iron Grill welcomed us warmly to Glasgow; we had our first meal in town here, & because my expectations for a hotel restaurant were tempered, I was surprised by how good of a time I had at dinner. They aren't reinventing the wheel, their dishes are just plain tasty. Our starters -- Marinated Olives (£4) & Chicken Skewers with lime & coconut yoghurt (£7) -- prepped our palates for richer courses to follow. Our side of Onion Rings (£5) was coated in a light, airy beer batter. To add to the festival of fried foods, I chose Fish & Chips (£19) as my main which had the same beer battered coating. Flakey cod paired well with the tangy tartar sauce. I only wish it was served with more traditional mushy peas instead of the one-noted crushed peas. BF also enjoyed his order; Filet (£37) was tender, flavorful, & well seasoned. For dessert, I had one of many Sticky Toffee Puddings (£7) ordered on our trip through Ireland & Scotland, as well as a Chocolate & Strawberry Eclair (£8) which I thought was the most creative dish of our meal. Modern ambiance & friendly service, though I think the staff were overwhelmed with catering to a larger party. May have to bring your patience, but at least the food is worth the wait.
