If you have reason to stay in Richmond, this is clearly a much, much better value than any of the modern alternatives on the outskirts of town. The rooms have 10'+ ceilings, large bathrooms, a sitting area: luxury at a reasonable price. The location is a mixed blessing. While you can walk to everything that's downtown (e.g., government offices, restaurants, USPS, a comfortable library), the place is, therefore, downtown as well--not bucolic.

Threw a wrench in our plans but I appreciated the prudence when it comes to safety. The water level didn't rise too much and they allowed us set up our camp right along the river the next morning. The view was great and the campground was quiet. It beats camping at the state campgrounds because it is all primitive camping, there isn't a bunch of people coming and going, and NO RV's! Management was at the front of the grounds 24/7 but wasn't invading your privacy by policing the grounds. They were really nice and gave advice on what to do in the area. Plenty of activities around the campground. Hiking, river trips, rock climbing, zip lines, bike trails, nature centers. We personally hiked various trails for two days and the views and geographical features were some of the most interesting I've seen.

Perhaps the low cost has something to do with the way everything layout in this campground? The electric/water hook ups were on the wrong side of RV/trailer, dump station is on the opposing traffic, rain drainage was none existence as any moisture collected above are being seeping out across multiple sites below. Our site#6 was closed to the comfort station, which was a bit dated, but showers, toilets, and sinks were clean and functional. Sites here will need leveling blocks to make it right. There are also primitive sites right next to a creek running on one side and warning of flash flood on the other side. Since the entire campground just below Hwy 11, car noise could be a problem for light sleepers. OTA TV has 12 digital channels. No WiFi reception inside this valley, weak LTE/3G here but one can get free TengoInternet at picnics area and near cottages. If not for Natural Bridge formations, Red River Gorge, Nada Tunnel nearby, we wouldn't think we stay as long as we did.

Currently, there are no bathrooms or showers, but electric and water hookup is done. My electric wasn't on, so they either don't have it going yet, or that's for campers only. There are some wheels to act as fire pits and fire wood is free for now. That may change once the place is more established, but it was a nice bonus. I was able to work around the bathroom situation easily enough despite being there in a tent. The park/splash area right across the creek has a bathroom that's open during daylight hours, however the stench was worse than the need to go. I'm excited to see how much changes between this year and next. Looking forward to having a clean bathroom and somewhere to shower without having to pull strings. I'm giving a 4 star review just for the bathroom situation and fully expect to update it to 5 stars next year.

We booked a weekend stay for my son and I Birthday weekend. We enjoyed that it was just a hop and a…read morejump from our house. We stayed at a full hook up sight at the front of the campground where we personally enjoyed. Some great perks of the location of the campground is just across the bridge they are a splash pad and play ground for the kids. A short walk up the road you have our Mexican restaurant as well as a short drive you have save a lot and dollar store and the chicken hut and Dairy Queen if you want to make a food run. The owners are wonderful people with so much hospitality and kindness. They was always smiling and happy to help if they was needed. They sell firewood on site and working to grow the campground by adding a general store, primitive camping and cabins in the future to accommodate more campers. If you're looking for a nice getaway we recommend giving McKee Campground your business. And support a small business trying to make a difference for our county. We look forward to booking again soon.

I think you have to request for these for additional charge. I am not very picky on where I stay when I go hiking as long as it's clean. I will rate the quality of service and how smooth my transaction with the front desk and booking/ communication with this hotel 5/5. However, for the hotel itself I have to rate it 2/5 because of the missing basic appliances in the room, the room smells like stale smoke even if I asked for a non-smoking room, the shower pressure was so light it's just like dripping water, the internet signal was non- existent like I was back in the 90's, I feel like I was in the boonies because my Verizon is not getting any signal while I was inside the room, and the towels were very hard and has stains. I'm glad I brought my own towels.

She was nice and could not give a bad review after interacting with her. She told me it was her 2nd day, I'm sure she will get more good reviews fir the hotel. Turned a 1 star review into 4. I would recommend the hotel owners to look into mesh networks if there is a common issue with the wifi. In an area that has no cell coverage it is important for the hotels to have good wifi.

We wanted something interesting to do and we have never driven off road, so Hollerwood Park was our choice. We rented a Polaris RZR and spent 4 hours on some incredible trails. They have anything from easy to outright insane. We stayed on the easy green trails. The four hours is not nearly enough time to cover just the easy trails and if you are adventurous there are even more advanced trails waiting for you. The Polaris was in excellent shape, almost new. It was a pleasure to drive. The suspension on the machine made the rough trails smooth. There was some mud, so keep that in mind as you pick your clothes. Dress like you are going on a hike. It was a total blast. The experience was totally worth it!

The trails are all well marked and most hard lines have bypasses that we found. This is a gem of a park located near some great restaurants for food and drinks. If you are out near this park I highly recommend it. We did it last year with the Great American Crawl and had a blast.
