My first review of 2014. It was New Year's eve...unfortunately, the partner was under the weather and when we ventured out, he ended up going back to the apartment. The market had just closed and the one restaurant we ate at couldn't do "take away" because they didn't have any containers. So I was off to look for somewhere else, and i had seen Cais Das Colunas earlier, and decided to go in. They had quite a few tables and they could do my take out order. As I waited, they began to get increasingly busy...which is a good sign. I ordered the soup of the day, the meat lasagne, the spinach lasagne, and the grilled salmon, oh and a napoleon and a pastal de natal. The soup turned out to be a potato curry soup and was delicious. The grilled salmon was seasoned perfectly and came with steamed potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. The lasagne came with a salad of lettuce, shredded carrots and beets, purple onions and tomatoes. The napoleon was just okay and the pastal was good. I still need to get to the source which I believe is in Belem. However, for taking away, everything was very good! It's also nice to just eat in our home away from home. No wine though, but their menu looked decent. I wouldn't mind coming back to sit on their patio. The inside seems a little cold and sterile. Quite a few locals just coming in for an espresso. The staff, though not overly friendly, were very cordial and forgiving of my limited Portuguese.

This was nicely convenient when we were looking for a breakfast place on new year's day (and most places were closed). It has a cafeteria decor, one can sit inside or out. It's clean and comfortable. Food is decent, service good and fast. Three stars for 'good, but not something extraordinary '...

Quite a good Portugese style restaurant although a bit touristy for my taste. I had the tuna salad paired with a port wine, delicious and fresh though a heads up, the salads tends to have very light dressing if any. I actually made a dressing of the vinegar, salt, pepper and olive oil. U found the tuna and veggies fresh, the port wine was not my favourite as it was very bitter and very sweet and a bit too extreme in taste! I'll stick to white! The good - fresh food - central location - easy to find - accept multiple payment forms - speak English The bad - bit touristy - higher prices than some other locations in area - smaller selection of wines than others in area

When I arrived at this address (found on Yelp), I must say that I was a little bit afraid and worried... I thought I arrived in a restaurant for tourists; you probably know what I mean; the "touristic" menu in all kind of languages, a lot of different dishes and their pictures (from a burger to a paella or even an English breakfast,...). My boyfriend took the hamburger for 4.5€ and I opted for a seafood paella at the prize of 13€. We both enjoyed our lunch and he was even jealous of my good choice! To conclude, the big advantages here are: the prices (very cheap for relatively nice food), the location (very close to the Rue Augusta shopping area), the shaded terrace in the pedestrian and the right waiting time!

I was washed inside by a tropical rain shower and I was glad I was! Cool modern little cafetaria style restaurant for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Small tables to cramp in as many guests as possible, but I never felt overly crowded. The TV-screen over the bar was on soccer, without sound fortunately :). Sitting down the friendly waiter asked me if I was Dutch, which I am. He - Giles - recognized my accent because he has two brothers living in Holland. So we spoke Dutch! I had planned on dining with typical Portugese food and I got recommended the bakkelau, which we call bakkeljauw in the Netherlands. Two marine nations, same old habits. The dish I got was bakkelau flakes with potato rösti in a sauce from the oven. Big food but it tasted great. Along came a very decent fresh salad. The pineapple juice was also freshly pressed. Within half an hour the place was fully packed and more people were waiting by the door to get seated as soon as someone left. That made me a little uncomfortable because I was busy writing my journal and seated nicely, but nobody ordered me out. Paid €14 for food and drinks. Great price for good food, great service in a packed place. That's how you run a business!

I was starving and decided to take a seat at this place. It was close to my hotel. Its very close to shopping area and Rossio square. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The server was very nice to me. She gave me a recommendation to try one of the common Portuguese dishes- sliced potatoes with fish. Portion size was pretty large. The price was decent. The food was also ok. They do have wifi. It does get busy around dinner time, which is a good sign!

Plus, my 6-year old just got off our tour bus and needed a bathroom break All of our orders came out in good time and our server was very helpful and friendly. We chatted a bit about his family in California. We ordered two steaks with wine reduction sauce. Very good. One steak was over cooked but it was fine. Clams as appetizer was awesome with the house bread. One order of lasagna and I would give it a 8/10 compared to other restaurants at home. One order of pasta carbonara. It was good but not outstanding. One order of spaghetti bolognese. That one was average. We just arrived from Barcelona a few days before Lisbon and we were missing sangria so we ordered one pitcher. It's not as good as the ones in Barcelona but then again this is not Barcelona. For dessert we ordered 3 ice cream and a tiramisu. The ice cream was over-priced at 8 Euro each. Skip dessert and go get some great pastries or gelato outside around the plaza.i

I had the lasagna and it looked fantastic, it didn't taste quite as good. It kind of acidic, slightly but lacked a lot of flavour sadly. I put lots of cheese on it but is only partially fixed it. We also had a salami pizza and spaghetti boulegnese. Both were ok. Spaghetti was tasty but maybe a little fatty tasting and the pizza was thin crust but not crispy or firm at all. Just alright. We also had the fruit crepes for dessert, they were just ok, not worth having. The ones I had at Josephine up town were miles better. These were the doughy kind of texture which I don't like. Sorry it didn't blow me away as I was hoping so. But I also didn't realise it is smack in the middle of the tourist area, we had spent most of our trip uptown near Alfama and it is way more authentic and real... And way cheaper. I think fish was €50 here, and for a tiny fish. If you go uptown you cms get that for €15 max, and way bigger...

Actually, in that same menu, a second thing that also seemed fairly unusual for bars in Lisbon, oddly: a bar that was doing something with ginja other than just serving it neat or in a chocolate shotglass (namely, a ginja spritz, also one of the drinks that's very cheap during happy hour, from 3-7 PM.) Obviously I tried one while I was here, and obviously, it was great. Was especially great for 5.5 euros. Ginja spritzes are bomb. Then I had an 8 euro happy hour "of the day", which that particular day, was a strawberry mojito - not as unique, but also, a great strawberry mojito. Finally, I did try one cocktail off their regular cocktail menu - I'm a huge sucker for Negroni variants, and this was one of the more fun takes I've seen, the Madeironi, of Campari, and both Madeira wine and an agricole rum, also from Madeira. I'd played with sherry at home a few times in Negronis, but hadn't ever tried Madeira - was truly exceptional. They even had the correct large cocktail ice cubes for it. Great service, too (admittedly, it was also basically empty, that presumably being why they had a happy hour, but I've been to empty bars that didn't have as good service, plenty of times.) This is a place I'd definitely come back to if I were back in Lisbon, both to try a couple more of their more locally-focused menu cocktails, and to drink several super-cheap spritzes. And probably try the pizza, too.)

It was super effective! We originally sat outside and the cool Portugal breeze was whipping in, they noticed and offered us a spot inside where it was a little warmer with out even being asked! Now on to the food! The bread and pesto they have as the starter is amazing! And that's just the beginning! Appetizers next, they continued to impress! The pizza was definitely fresh and light. I would 1000% recommend this place if you are visiting or a local, potentially make a reservation, this place clearly isn't a hidden gem anymore!

My taste buds got together and learned Portuguese they could write a thank you note to the kitchen staff. I took photos of everything including the signature cocktail and made my social media friends look at them. This place rocks! (Literally. They have a rocking playlist and live music at night.) No matter your appetite, this place has snacks and full entrees that span a range of palate-pleasers. You cannot go wrong here ordering something out of the ordinary or sticking with what's familiar. The staff are always in motion serving patrons and checking on tables. They seem very happy working together as a team. Their smiles were not just for guests but for each other. Comfortable indoor seating as well as relaxing outdoor seating to accommodate any size of party. Happy Hour specials and 2-for-1 pizza Sundays after 7 PM make this a great spot for anyone on a budget. They do not skimp on creativity or flavor. Treat yourself and try them early in your stay.
