I hate writing negative reviews because the cakes at Cake Goddess truly are delicious. However, their customer service and policies have completely changed my mind about ever ordering from them again. I placed an order on a Thursday for a very simple 8-inch cake -- no fondant, just basic icing. Only two hours later, I called to change the pickup date and was told the "process had already been started," so absolutely no changes or refunds could be made. For such a simple cake order, that response felt unreasonable and inflexible, especially given how quickly I called back. A little customer service and understanding would have gone a long way. It's disappointing because the quality of the cakes is excellent, but policies like this make customers feel unvalued. I am so disappointed. I have ordered custom cakes from Cake Goddess before, and I was always happy with the outcome, but the customer service has always been a bit rushed; so in order to have the time I felt I needed, since I wanted to order a custom wedding cake, I scheduled a consult, which cost me $25. On the phone, the girl asked me how many people were going to be there and which 5 flavors of cake we would like to try. She also asked me where the wedding venue was (so I assumed at this point that they would deliver.) I did explain this was going to be a custom cake, and it would only be me at the consult, and that I only needed the two flavors (almond w/white and yellow w/chocolate.) When I arrived, I sat down with the consultant who brought over two cupcakes (almond w/white and yellow w/white - which was NOT correct) but, no big deal - I know their cake is good. Then she proceeds to pull out wedding cake sample books. I explained again that I did not want a traditional cake, but a custom cake and began to show her the design. At that point, she seemed less than interested, and explained they do not do edible images, so I pivoted and gave her another design that they could do with piping and fondant. She didn't give ideas, she didn't offer solutions, she just sat there like she was bored. She then told me that they would not deliver a cake that was not three tier or more. So I was supposed to come and pick up the wedding cake while I was in the middle of getting ready for a wedding? Why even ask for the address then? At this point, I decided to just go elsewhere. The attention to detail was poor, and the enthusiasm for a sale was poor. I also suggest that when scheduling a wedding cake consult that one say up front that there is no delivery (I would have even paid extra. Price was not the issue.) I recently ordered my fourth cake from Cake Goddess. The first two were elaborately decorated nursing graduation cakes and the third was a wedding cake. We were 100% pleased with the taste, decorations, and service for those. For my fourth order, a relatively simple birthday cake, we were disappointed with the product and the service. We provided a photo which was from social media and not entirely crisp, but the bakers at Cake Goddess did not try to work with us to come up with ideas or solutions. We offered to bring silk flowers but were unable to find suitable options. Ultimately, we found fondant flowers on Etsy and decorated the cake ourselves. We asked for one gold "30" on the front for my daughter's 30th birthday and the numbers were tiny and lost on the front of the cake. I called to see if we could get larger numbers and their answer was there wasn't enough time for the icing to harden. Well, ok, but there was no apology or "I'm sorry you're not pleased" or anything other than "Try a party store." I felt like having spent hundreds on previous cakes and being a four-time repeat customer should have warranted a bit more concern and cooperation. read more

I would think this cake was an April fools joke but it's the middle of January. I called to place an order for a cake and they were really nice on the phone! I sent them an email attaching the inspiration and we designed the cake together over the phone. For some reason they said they couldn't write happy birthday on the top...I had high expectations for them based on the photos they post online. Needless to say I was BEYOND disappointed. There is no reason this cake should have been $140... it looks like they did it blindfolded. My mom went to pick it up and they had a nasty attitude. Pics on the internet look amazing but when we went in, not very many choices. Two ladies working were not very welcoming. Even a sign on the door that tells you don't come in if you want to order something because they have enough orders. Ok - sounds like these cakes must be amazing then. Right??? Bought the cookies and cream cupcake. It was almost $5 for one cupcake. Went to bite into it and it was basically frozen. Tasted like the generic cakes at Winn Dixie that are made and shipped in. I personally think Cake Goddess has the best cake and cupcakes in Baton Rouge. I mean, I have not had a bakery that comes close to the taste and quality of the cakes, cupcakes, and ooey Gooey cake For the the cake alone, they would get a 5. However, I think it takes more thank just having a good product to get a good review. I have gone in a couple times on different occasions and they are not welcoming at all. My most recent visit was 9/8/2017. There were 3 employees there. There were no other customers at that moment but me and my aunt and it felt like we were bothering them by patronizing them. Another lady walked in when we were wrapping up our transactions and they weren't welcoming to her either. I popped in to this cute, corner bakery after an event I attended next door. I've read their reviews before and thought it was the perfect opportunity to pop-in before heading home on a Saturday afternoon. The space was cute, which a nice open kitchen. They had an array of cupcakes and cakes on display, which all looked yummy. The strawberry cupcake popped out at me because it looked so fresh and I was feelin' strawberry that day! Just from this cupcake alone, it put me on the excitement track for trying the other ones. Unfortunately, I had to put the brakes on the excitement train because I could not go full throttle on desserts. Ya know... trying to stay on track with my health goals. The cupcake was delicious though. It looked very rich and decadent, but had that subtlety to it. The icing was not super sweet and the cake was moist, which was probably from the fresh strawberry piece in it. I enjoyed it very much. In fact, I keep thinking about going back to get another one. It tasted like it came right out of a "Strawberry Shortcake" book. I did however agree with one of the other Yelpers (Shan E.) on was customer service. I did not get the warm & fuzzies in here like I have from other bakeries in town. Found out that they are moving to another locations, so I get that is stressful. These days, with so many businesses coming up in Baton Rouge and competition is getting greater, customer service really does matter. This cake shop is my little gem! They have done all of my kids birthday cakes every year. First of all their cakes taste delicious. So fresh, the icing is so decadent, it's too good really. And they have done a great job with cake decorations every year, even when I asked for things they had never heard of before. I always brought pictures in with me and they nailed it every time.
