Decided to visit a long time favorite. Growing up my parents would purchase desserts from Gambino's, now as an adult I do the same. Came by to get a few desserts which included cake and cake slices. The choices were very good. The service was quick and easy. The atmosphere was pleasant and warm. Reminded me of how it used to be when I was a child. You can place and order for certain desserts and come pick up at a later time, but if you would like to just have a quick sweet treat, there is a variety of items located in the showcase where you could purchase for minimum prices. read more

My father sent a praline filled king cake for Mardi Gras and it arrived smashed into pieces. Gambinos refunded the cake two weeks later, understandable since the city sort of shuts down the week of Mardi Gras. If you ship a king cake from here, I recommend getting a plain cake without filling. FYI, these cakes have to be decorated by the receiver, which could be fun, but potentially also a nuisance, given the sugars are coming in prefilled bags. Honestly, I'd rather just pick up a king cake at my local Whole Foods on Mardi Gras Day. read more

Gambino's has been part of my history for 50 years. I live away and was really excited to visit the bakery. I remember the amazing aromas when I walked in. It is so sad to see an iconic bakery whose ambience has changed. No going home. The people were wonderful- friendly and so accommodating. The king cakes were luscious with so many different new varieties - even chocolate cream cheese and praline. Yum! Still has the racks of cookies, individual little pies, and doberge cakes. My only disappointment was that the wonderful bread is only available as take and bake frozen loaves. Such is progress. read more

Ordered 2 King Cakes for a party on the evening of January 10. I get a UPS notification that it was delivered at 12:45PM. I'm home, so I immediately check the front door, and behind the garage. I also check all of my neighbors houses. There is nothing there. It was never delivered. So I don't have the King Cakes for my Mardi Gras themes party that evening. I contact Gambino's Customer Service, and all they can do is say UPS delivered. They have the tracking number that says it was delivered, but no picture showing the package at my location. I've gone back and forth with customer service many times, but the gist of it is that "Quantasha from the Customer Service Team" says that "unfortunately, we are unable to process a full refund at this time...the only accommodation I can offer is a refund of the shipping costs. I'm a regular customer who orders a few times a year because I love the product, however, after this experience with customer service, I will never order from Gambino's again. We were satisified with the cost of the cake; it fed over 250 guests and there was more to bring home; which was simply delicious; not a piece wasted. Last week I had called in to reserve a cake for my mother's birthday and asked for writing on it. 10 minutes later, I realized I reserved the wrong type (misremembered the type she likes) which was German chocolate and quickly called to cancel. Was asked to come in and look at the cakes they had to choose which design of the other cake I wanted. When I came in, was not able to choose which cake I wanted (outside of it being the almond cake with chocolate icing that I was looking for)... which is no big deal, it was a nice cake. I was very apologetic about the early mix-up and the staff was sweet about it EXCEPT for the woman that iced my cake. I was just about to pay for it when she came up to the counter and very loudly and rudely told the person checking me out to 'make sure they pay for it first then i'll write on it. we already wasted one' (I saw them put back the 'wrong' cake, so I know it wasn't wasted). There was no need to act like that when I was literally paying for the cake right that moment, and was also obviously sorry! When I got the cake, the words were written very aggressively like she GOUGED the cake with the icing while she was piping it. It really soured my experience and made me feel a bit awful for absolutely no good reason. She did not need to treat me that way for an honest mistake and allow her anger to give the customer subpar service... The cake was good and everyone enjoyed it, at least. I ordered four (4) cakes online to arrive the day before the event (as recommended by their website). They arrived late and were horribly smushed!!! When I contacted the bakery with my disappointment, I was originally told by Jackie-Sue that I would receive a full refund. Weeks have passed, several messages have gone back and forth, and today, I received a message from Ashley acknowledging that even though there was a "glitch" in their system, she could only offer a partial refund of the shipping. I called to speak with someone in person and was pretty much told that they are not responsible for their product after Fedex picks them up. Then we went over the picture I had to create the cake of my dreams. She also worked so well with me when we had to change our date three times because of covid. I called and left a voicemail with contact information and submitted an inquiry Monday, 02/12/24. As of today, I still have not, at the very least received a courtesy call about the status of my order. What is the purpose of the option of a "deliver by date" if you are not going to honor it? Gambinos never disappoint me! First lest talk about how clean the bakery is! Every time I go there it is impeccably clean. It smells amazing. I know you are thinking "aren't bakeries supposed to smell amazing?" Yes but I have been to some that doesn't. The staff are always welcoming and smile and can answer any question you have. I also noticed they they have had employees with this company for 46 years! There is a sign in the bakery and that in itself speaks volumes to how they treat their employees Now let's talk about this cake!!!! My ABSOLUTE fave is the vanilla cake with praline filling. Placed an order through their shipping company Goldbelly for a cake that was supposed to be for my girlfriends birthday. They just straight up never shipped it. No explanation no apology they just left Goldbelly hanging. I will never do business with Gambinos which disappoints me since this bakery was a nice childhood memory I had. I went in today because I'm getting married in September and asked how can I get a price for a cake. She advised the dates and time they can do cake tastings. I don't know what happened but the quality is gone. i bought a two layer pineapple cake. I don't know how long it was in the display case but the cake was so dry and the pineapple filling was just a very thin layer of brownish jell with no pineapple and the icing was hard. This is the second year in a row we ordered a king cake from Gambino's where they have sent us regular cake icing. As a long time baker I know the different between cake icing and king cake icing. The reason we ordered last year is because we had one from there with the correct icing. It is supposed to be runny (like a granulated sugar and milk mix). When I complained last year she accused me of lying to get a free cake. Well here we are again this year, hoping to have correct icing. But nope, sent us this thick (powdered sugar, Crisco-like mix). The almond flavor is always amazing and the cakes light and fluffy with just the right amount of icing not overly sweet like some I've had in town. On a my most recent trip i found a coconut macaroon with Turkish delights and pecans which was amazing and totally worth a stop on their own. Gambino's staff is always friendly and helpful and they always provide a wonderful product be it Doberge or cake squares. There are a lot of good bakeries in BR but Gambino's has some items that continue to make it a go to staple for sweet treats. read more
