Again, so many options to pick from. I ended up going with this huge brownie thing, two cookies, two cake pops, and a cream puff. I thought I was going to break the bank, but man I was wrong. They also had treats displayed around the store if you didn't want to pick out of the case. For wedding cakes, they have their own part of the store! Your cakes can be ordered online ahead of time and await your arrival for pick up. I ate my goodies before taking pictures but it was all good. On top of that, they called me back after noticing I ordered a small cake as a smash cake and let me know they offer one for free for first birthdays. Such thoughtful service. This was my first time getting a whole King Cake, and it did not disappoint! They offer a variety of flavors, but I went with the classic cinnamon and it was delicious. The cake comes with a baby Jesus inside, so be careful since the figure is quite small. The outside of the cake was festive and beautifully decorated, though I do wish it had a bit more filling. One suggestion would be to add iced coffee to the menu, as they told me they only offer hot coffee on the day I visited. The service was great, friendly, and efficient. Forgive my ignorance but I always thoughts bakeries are akin to donut establishments and also since the last time I went to Ambrosia , it served breakfast I assumed it opened early---thought it did open early 5 years ago---so when I showed up at 7:40 am today I was shocked it was closed ---but Instead of just leaving I went to the front door and saw that they opened at 8:00 am---so I ran another errand and returned between 8:15 am and 8:30 am and Ambrosia was busy filling orders for the 6-7 people in there----so, what did I get---after all this place has a lot of things to offer--cookies, cupcakes, cake, pies, cinnamon rolls, bear claws and many different pastries--including fruit based offerings---well, I ordered a cinnamon roll, a croissant, 2 fancy fruit tart, and 2 chocolate covered strawberries---all turned out satisfying & yummy. As I write this, we are beginning carnival/Mardi Gras season so of course there were many king cakes with different flavor options tempting the shopper who looks around. My shopping experience at Ambrosia had none of the impoliteness and or negative activity other reviewers indicates they experienced---the 2 people who served me were polite, patient and knowledgeable---just what this fella needs when he walks into a bakery not knowing what to get and desiring suggestions/assistance. I live in Lake Charles and buy about 6 king cakes from Ambrosia each Mardi Gras. On one of my trips I bought a cream cheese strawberry. When I cut into it the cream cheese was slimy. 2 weeks later when I was back in BR I asked Ambrosia to credit that one as I was there to buy another one too. Ambrosia Bakery used to be really good. Now I find the service a little shotty. The owners are still awesome but some of their workers well, let's just say they need to be vetted a little bit better. I've noticed that they're not really consistent and a lot of their items taste like box pastry. Also, their new way of taking orders is really interesting. You order at the counter and you don't get your items until you actually cash out at the cash register. Maybe they've been duped a couple of times. Also, when I go to a bakery, I want to pick the item that I want not the item that the person is serving me wants to give me an all truth. I'm paying for it so give the customer what they want. I stopped in on New Years Eve to get a Strawberry Cake and was immediately greeted by the same girl who assisted me, her name was Sam. She was extremely outgoing, made recommendations on other items and even sold me cookies along with the cake for the party. It seemed like she was the only one that wanted to help as she was helping other customers while the other employees were talking and cutting up. The cashier that checked me out, Harley was also kind and was outgoing. The store it's self is some what dated. This was my 1st time in and the cake was ok, not the great cake I heard about, not fresh and was average. Ralph's in Gonzales has one that has a much better flavor, fresher and half the price. Great Job to Sam and Harley for at least making the visit a good one, they are the reason I will return. I ordered a strawberry cake which was horrible. It tasted as if there was no sugar in it. Also the strawberry on top of the cake looked old. This is my second and last visit to this business. The first time I ordered a Danish it was stale. The second visit was the deciding factor for me. They were very nice when they responded to my concern but I didn't feel it was sincere. I ordered a cake for my daughter's graduation event for Friday. I staff that takes the order states I can't pick a cake up on Friday but it can be ready for Thursday at 2:00pm. I picked the cake up and stored it properly in my fridge for event. It was the worst cake I ever had. It tasted like cornbread with icing also the decoration of the cake was lacking. I called to complain the very next morning left several voices and no one called me back. I simply want what I pay for.. this cake was subpar and a disgrace. I will never use their service again.
