We went to Cake Me Away bakery for a wedding cake tasting and had a nice experience with lots of flavors to choose from. We ordered our cake months in advance of our October wedding and paid 50% up front. We provided a picture of exactly what we wanted our cake to look like and we were assured that they could replicate the picture. One week before the wedding we get a text to pay the balance and we did. Then we get a text that they don't have the picture. So we resend it. We paid for delivery of the cake to the venue by 9 am. The morning of the wedding they text a picture which did not resemble our picture we provided but we were out of time. They delivered the cake; dropped it off and left. They did not stay and try to add the flowers or make it look like the picture. The cake tasted good except the frosting had an after taste of bacon. Like someone frosted the cake by bacon grease or had it on their hands. Overall not happy with the experience. read more

I placed an order for a Graduation Cake on May 6th & also for some cookies. I sent a pic of the cake I wanted & they said they could make it exactly like the pic. They sent me a text about the cake 2 days ago to confirm & I responded. They did NOT mention the cookies, so I thought I would double check on them. The girl that took my order did NOT even turn the cookie order in. These were specially made cookies for the Grad Party. I was originally supposed to pickup the order at 12:30 today!!! Well they said it would be 4:00 before the Cake & the cookies were ready. The party is at 6:00 so that's pushing it since it's a Grad Party & we have to decorate also! I received a text at 2:50 about a detail on the cake! Give me a break! You're NOT even finished with the cake! Is this NOT poor Customer Service!!!! I have used them before, but this time they totally messed up! I haven't seen the cake yet, but NO MATTER what it looks like we have to take it!!!!!! Soooo disappointed in them & their Customer Service!!! I will really have to think twice about ever using them again!!!! Very upset & disappointed Customer to say the least. I placed an order through Cake Me Away for my best friend's baby shower, and unfortunately, my experience was far from professional. On the day of the shower, I arranged for a mutual friend (who knows both me and the baker/owner) to pick up the cake and cupcakes. When she arrived, the cake was not yet finished, and she had to wait while the baker rushed to complete the fondant work. Despite placing the order a month in advance, the baker appeared unprepared. After hurriedly finishing, she loaded the cake into my friend's car, and it was brought to the event. When I opened the box, I immediately noticed the rushed craftsmanship. Both the cake and the cupcakes had lumpy fondant. The biggest disappointment, however, was with the fondant decoration. I had specifically requested a hotdog design, but instead, I received something that resembled a thumb (or worse). I promptly sent a photo to the baker, pointing out the mistake, but instead of addressing it, she tried to shift the blame onto me. Although our previous conversations clearly specified a hotdog, she chose to interpret it differently without consulting me. When I expressed my dissatisfaction and her lack of accountability, she continued to deflect and even used religious references to dismiss my concerns, which felt inappropriate in this context. Overall, if a baker is hired to do a design, they do the design. They do not make decisions on their own. I think she was just rushing and didn't put a bun on and thought it'd be fine, but it wasn't. I arrive to pick up my cake and it actually took quite a while for it to be ready... I could see them scurrying in the back throwing it together. I thought it would be ready when I got there. I overlooked the long wait time and when they gave me my cake, which wasn't a huge cake and had no topper, they didn't even have a box that it could fit into properly. For the amount that the simple cake costs, I would think that I would get a box that at least closes all the way. Let me start with how the last two weeks have unfolded. Last Tuesday (a little more than a week at the time of writing), I sent in a request form for a custom cake via email and got a response almost immediately. The following week I called to follow up and was able to talk to the owner of the bakery who said she had been sick for a few days and she would have a quote to me same day or early the next morning.... 3 days later and 1 day before the event she texted me saying she could still fulfill my order but I let her know I had moved on and had gotten our treats at another bakery in Charlotte. She apologized and said they had just changed management. My only concern with that was the fact that the same number I used to call the owner was the same number that texted me... so is this just another excuse to keep doing bad business or did she genuinely replace management? I guess I'll never know as I won't be returning. Please let this story be a warning to those who have an important event ahead and need a good bakery. THIS IS NOT IT!!! read more

I wanted to use them again and reached out multiple times only to get no response and then finally excuses. I ended up reaching out to another bakery. The manager of CMA contacted me and was very apologetic and the communication with her, Jessica was on point. She was quick to respond and helpful. I'm big on communication and when I didn't get anything back I was set on not giving them my business any longer. Jessica is the reason I'll continue giving them my business for needs. My father ordered my wedding cake from this bakery. The cake itself is delicious. The frostings they make are good. The only issue I have had is with customer service. When my father purchased the cake over a year ago, he was told on our anniversary to come back for free tier to celebrate our anniversary. I called back to place our order. The girl on the phone told me it would then be $10. Fine. She then asked me to send a picture of the cake to their cell number. Odd since we didn't ask for it to be decorated. So I sent the photo. She asked me which flavor I would prefer. So I told her. She said that she would see me when we came to pick it up at the date and time we set up. I called back to confirm the day before I was supposed to pick it up, and was then informed that I would have to pay $35. Odd. I asked what had changed and why the price continued to increase because I had been told 3 different prices in one week. The manager, I believe, got very snotty over the phone and said something along the lines of "the cake you got wasn't expensive enough for the free tier for the anniversary", which my father wasn't informed of over a year ago. I then told her we were told it would be $10. She informed me that the information I received was wrong, and that she would speak to the girl that took the order. The conversation was basically over. The next time I heard from them was via text message. Which I think is pretty unprofessional. She informed me over text that the information I received was wrong, but they would still honor the $10 cake deal since the girl informed me wrong. I got my cake for $10. No complaints. I've been to Cake Me Away twice and both times I was absolutely thrilled with their work. The first time I ordered an assortment of cupcakes and requested a vintage, floral design on each (Google "hand painted cupcakes" and you'll see what I mean!) When I saw my order I was stunned; they were GORGEOUS! The artwork was spot on and they tasted good too! I do remember enjoying the vanilla flavored one the most and the strawberry flavored one the least. The second time I ordered a carrot cake for a birthday. Let's start with a text that my friend received the day of the party asking that she pick her cake up later than the scheduled time. Ok that's no biggie things happen but they also asked her to resend a picture of how she wanted her cake!! At this point I'm nervous because it's 11:00am and she's supposed to be picking the cake up at 2 now. So my friend picks up the cake and the lady instructed her to sit the cake in a refrigerator for another hour. Well we didn't know why she said that because we couldn't put it in the refrigerator because we were going straight to her daughters party. An hour and a half later as we are singing happy birthday the cake is melting and when we cut it.... it begins to fall apart . My friend spent a nice penny for her cake for it to look like a one year old played smash face with it. We had to put what we could salvage of the cake in plastic wear but this is how her cake looks. I picked up a birthday cake(almond joy)and cupcakes on 2-27-16 when I seen the cake it was so pretty so I just knew it was going to taste as good as it looks. Well I cut everyone a piece and tried mine I was so disappointed when you think of almond joy you think coconut and almonds didn't have any of that, it had 3 layers the top two were good but the bottom one was over baked and the outside of it had a bitter taste, in between each layer was more thick icing it really took over the whole cake. As I looked around everyone was eating around the icing and just eating some of the cake. The last thing you want is being responsible for getting the cake and you get it and it's not good so I'm left with the rest of the cake that nobody wants to eat read more
