I was super excited to come and try this place, the marketing on social media and their website was on point - everything looked delicious. Upon coming in, I was most excited to try their specialty donut (eggnog), but we also got the chocolate eclair and the pretzel twist (cinnamon swirl donut). I am sad to say that this didn't live up to my expectations, I thought the donuts were somewhat dry and was missing that chewy bite you crave from a yeast donut. The filling for the eggnog donut was nothing more than regular vanilla filling & the icing on the top was hard and crusty. Truthfully, there was nothing special about the donuts or the eclair. The cakes and cupcakes did look incredible, and I might come back one day to try them. The space was clean and the staff were attentive. I really wanted to be blown away by Suárez bakery, but it was quite unremarkable for me.

Picked up a key lime cheesecake for Pi Day (yes cheesecake is a pie). It was creamy with the perfect amount of tang and a nice light crust. I've also had the tres leches, which was great too!

Beautiful and delicious cookies and other treats. One of my friends is obsessed with it so we always stop by if in the area, even if just to look. I have a gluten sensitivity so I bought items to give as gifts and everyone enjoyed. No seats - takeout only. Convenient location with a parking lot.

    Cake

I've been going to Suarez Bakery since they opened. Great bakery. I got this cake (5/26) and once we cut the cake, we were very disappointed. The cake layers were not a complete layer, and they compensated with over an inch of frosting in between each layer. After we sliced the cake, everyone was commenting on this odd cake. We were embarrassed.

Enjoy coming here for cookies for the kids. We also get cakes for parties. Very convenient in and out. People don't really eat inside just pick up and go. We ride our bikes from the nearby greenway. Good service never have to wait.

    Yum

I just left Suárez Bakery and what a pleasant experience. One of my coworkers is getting promoted and i needed cupcakes. While calling around Suárez was the only one that said they had grab and go services. When i got there the wait was not long, the cashier was very helpful (with a smile) and the presentation was so good i had to grab a slice of carrot cake as well! Thanks for the convenience, service and the smile!

Food I stopped by to try the strawberry shortcake June flavor of the month doughnut and left with much more. All of my items came refrigerated - I'm okay with that. Presentation was 10/10 - everything looked picture ready. I had so many things to try I forgot to take a picture of the chocolate mousse cake. I thought I would like that item the best, but I thought it was a little dry - same as the chocolate cupcake. The chocolate flavor was great and the icing was very silky - however, I didn't care for the texture. My favorite was the carrot cake - 10/10. The cream cheese icing was fluffy and not too sweet. The texture of the carrot cake was soft - not dry. I'll definitely get this again. The brownie had a great flavor, but the texture was not it for me. It's more like a fudge texture or some vegan brownies, with a modicum amount of crumb. The key lime cheesecake had a nice buttery graham crust, and some tartness from the key lime cheesecake section and then a standard layer of plain cheesecake. The layers were velvety smooth goodness - 3/5. The coconut cream cake was very light/airy - not too sweet, which I appreciate. I wasn't blown away by any of the items - maybe the carrot cake, but only due to being underwhelmed by the other 7 items. I didn't like the way the strawberries tasted in the chiffon cake. Reminded me of strawberries soaked in wine without the sogginess between the cake layers. The icing was great on all of the cakes. The cake textures weren't consistent for me. Although soft a bit dry with the exception of the carrot cake. They were refrigerated, but thawed out a bit from the trip back home - still a little cold, but not too cold. The strawberry shortcake donut was okay. The icing is a hard candy like shell - similar to a chocolate coated candy apple. I didn't like the artificial taste of the coating, but I loved the strawberry cream on the inside. The doughnut texture was a little dryer compared to Your Mom's donuts. I also stopped by there. 1. Strawberry Shortcake doughnut 2. Salted Caramel Brownie (2) 3. Key Lime Cheesecake ‍ 4. Carrot Cake 5. Coconut Cream Cake 6. Strawberry Chiffon Cake 7. Chocolate Mousse Cake (not pictured) 8. Chocolate Cupcake Service 10/10 - I had two people in front of me, but my wait wasn't long. It gave me time to look at all of the options and get things I didn't need. I came in on a Saturday afternoon to pickup some treats. Ambiance Bright lights and outside day light - made it super easy to see all of the treats.

Guava pastelito, apple fritter, donut holes

Tasty, affordable Cuban-style bakery conveniently located in Park Rd Shopping Center! We got the guava pastelito, apple fritter, and donut holes. Right now, there's a Yelp check-in offer for a free pastry (up to $5 value), so our pastelito ended up being free! Service was speedy, patient, and friendly. Note: this location is different from the Optimist Hall one, which also serves coffee and sandwiches. This is JUST a bakery. (TBH, I wouldn't mind the cafe offerings here too though! Love a Cuban cafecito.) Of what we got, I really enjoyed the guava pastelito since it was perfectly flaky and had an apricot glaze, adding a little something extra to this pastry that scream Miami to me. I also thought the apple fritter was nice since it had little chunks of apple in it. This was especially delish after we got home and heated it up. The donut holes were just ok to me, so I wouldn't be coming back here just for those, but it's nice to have the option to get something small and sweet if the craving hits. I'd love to return and try more baked goods! The cakes look divine, and looks like they also have seasonal offerings.

Suarez Bakery - Park Road Charlotte Now I wish I had tried additional sweets! Only got four and they are absolutely phenomenal! We will definitely be back, on a Saturday to get the Cuban bread. Salted brownie cookie? Absolute favorite! The little almond horn was equal with the number one slot. Then came the apple fritter, that glazed doughnut was fabulous! Super nice girls at the counter. Extremely underwhelming. I've heard nothing but good things about this bakery, but the products themselves fell short of expectation. The coconut cream cake was average at best, and not memorable. Disappointing for a tiny $5 piece. It's hard to mess up a doughnut, but somehow they did it. The chocolate sprinkle lacked flavor and flattened as I ate it. It wasn't fluffy & airy like a donut should be. They weren't "awful" or the worst thing I'd ever eaten, so I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.

The Aesthetic: Funky, colorful, and hip Cuban bakery, sandwicherie, and coffee stand at Optimist Hall with the best desserts in the food hall! The Price: The prices are very good for the size of the pastries you get, my donut was very filling and it was only $3. The value for the price is just right. The Parking: There is abundant parking all around the food hall, but on a busy night you may be circling around to find a close spot. The parking is free for the first hour and a half then increases to $5 an hour. My Order: I recently tried the eggnog cream-filled donut, and it was perfection! However, the best dessert I've had here is the Tres Leches cake. It may honestly be the best in town. They also have Cuban food that I need to go back and try. The Conclusion: I'd highly recommend it if you can fit dessert after your meal at Optimist. Don't miss the Tres Leches cake with a cortadito, you will love it!

Who doesn't love donuts? With so many donut shops in CLT, Suárez stands out with its Donut CAKE! The icing is tremendously sweet and donut is super fluffy. The employees are very accommodating to build this with short notice and at a good price. Their shops are more than just donuts, so if you're near Park Rd Shopping Center or Optimist Hall, I recommend going to their shop and seeing what else they have to offer behind the glass of goodies! Also shoutout to their extremely fudgy Salted Caramel Brownie mmmm.

Do you make anything that's both vegan and gluten free? I know that's a tough combination, but I would love to try your bakery if you offered something that is both 😬

Hey, Lillian! While we do make vegan goods, and also make gluten-free goods, we don’t currently make anything that’s both vegan and gluten-free (you’re right—it is a tough combo).…

They had offered samples of their lemon tart at the event, which stayed on my mind--so I came back and ordered the Lorraine-style quiche. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced by a fresh side salad. I paired it with a café au lait, which was equally well done. The ambiance is effortlessly chic--very much reminiscent of a European café--and it was lively during lunch. It's the kind of place where you can sit, linger, and people-watch... and SouthPark definitely showed up in style. At one point, several guests seated near us were speaking French, which added to the authenticity and overall experience. Service was warm and efficient, even with the crowd. The bakery itself is on the smaller side--you order inside and then head outside to sit and eat. I went on a Sunday, so it was very busy with a long line, but it moved quickly. When seating fills up, the neighboring restaurant allows use of their patio, which is a thoughtful touch. My friend enjoyed her quiche as well, and we both agreed it's a spot worth returning to--whether for a casual lunch, coffee, or a pastry break. I also order a few macarons to go and my family enjoyed them.

Review for Renaissance Patisserie…read more After relocating to Charlotte from San Francisco, one of the first things I searched for was a proper kouign-amann (pronounced queen-ah-mahn). It's a staple where I'm from, and when I discovered that Renaissance Patisserie carried it, I made the drive immediately. I'm happy to say--this place is the real deal. The kouign-amann here reminded me of the ones back in San Francisco. It wasn't quite as buttery or rich as some of the West Coast versions, but it was absolutely enjoyable--and most importantly, I finished every bite. That alone says a lot. Location & setting: Renaissance is tucked into the upscale specialty shops of SouthPark, in a lovely, polished shopping center surrounded by quality retailers like Williams Sonoma and several restaurants. Parking is plentiful and convenient, and once you step out of your car, you're welcomed into a charming outdoor courtyard that feels relaxed and refined. You'll immediately notice the bright yellow awning--it's cheerful and inviting--and inside, the bakery is just as charming. The black-and-white tile floors, small bistro tables, and beautifully arranged pastry case create a classic European feel. It's not a huge space--maybe six or seven tables--but it feels cozy, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. What makes it special: * A stunning pastry case filled with beautifully crafted desserts and laminated pastries * Skilled bakers and decorators--you can tell there's real craftsmanship behind the products * Friendly, efficient service * Apple Pay accepted (always appreciated) * Self-service water and condiments station * Clean, comfortable environment * A lovely outdoor patio that's perfect when the weather cooperates I do wish they occasionally experimented with more creative variations of the kouign-amann--perhaps seasonal fruit or specialty flavors--but even in its classic form, it's consistently a hit. I've brought these pastries to friends and gatherings, and they're always well received. What I appreciate most is that Renaissance delivers on quality and consistency. It may be a newer trend here in Charlotte, but these pastries have been a long-standing favorite in cities like San Francisco, and it's wonderful to see that level of craftsmanship available locally. Bottom line: Beautiful pastries, fair prices, great service, and a polished, welcoming atmosphere. This has become my go-to bakery in Charlotte, and if you appreciate well-made French pastries, you will not be disappointed.

While some foods are still a mystery to me - barbecue I can just take or leave, mostly leave - I know coffee and I know baked goods. The croissant I sampled was dry, implying unkindly that the flaky pastry dough was either formerly frozen or not fresh, and while croissants aren't exactly the moistest pastry to be found, the idea behind making them is kneading and rolling in a lot of butter, which I truly could not taste. What a disappointment. And somehow, somehow, my latte, albeit freshly prepared before me, was lukewarm when I took my first sip on the way to the car. How is that even possible? At the last minute, I asked for caramel to be added to my drink, but that was imperceptible too. I'd forgotten to ask for it to be half sweet, so I guess that was a blessing in disguise.
