It's kind of hard to find a solid breakfast spot when traveling down 74 West, without having to drive 2 hours. Cakes, Pastries, & More did not satisfy our need for some good breakfast. We have never been to a restaurant that serves you your breakfast cafeteria style! I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing if a breakfast joint does it like that. Our first impression when walking into Cakes, Pastries, & More is that there is no character to the restaurant. It's just a spacious square. We both got breakfast plates. The eggs were their best item, but was still not very good. The hash brows had no flavor and were undercooked (if you can imagine that) and bacon tasted like it had been sitting out for a day. The "sweet" tea is not sweet. The restrooms are nasty, but the rest of the restaurant is clean. Why just the restrooms? It's a local favorite and I see why. It's not fancy, Actually nostalgic-Cafeteria style. The food is hot, seasoned southern style and the portions fill you up. The staff are always friendly and then there's dessert! They have a bakery that serves these croissants that are stuffed with cream, lemon fill, strawberry fill, etc. Very tasty people come from nearby towns. Holy diabetes Batman! This place is a must stop if you love delicious sugary baked goods. I don't even try anything but the croissants. Usually I get 3 creme, 3 chocolate, and then a variety with the other six. A dozen runs just about $17. Get them first thing in the morning when they are hot and fresh. It's located in a sketchy looking shopping center and you park and enter around the side, not the front. They have a secondary restaurant inside with a bunch of tables and a couple of restrooms. Sometimes the lines here can be super long, I recommend calling your order in ahead. This way you can skip the line and just pick up your order. They have a ton of different flavors, lemon, apple, strawberry, raspberry...all worth trying!! A dozen is good for 2 people ;-). They will keep a couple days if you don't eat them all the first day. My only complaint is that I wish they were open Sundays. Usually I pick them up when I'm passing through on a Friday or Saturday morning headed out of town. My favorite item is the glazed croissants. The filled raspberry and creme is good but simple glaze is best. Regular croissants are in the glass case so if you want croissant minis, they step to the back to put them together right away. So the line will get backed up a bit. I've tried the chicken and pastries with mash potatoes, cornbread, and fried chicken. The fried chicken was tasty but a bit moist. I didn't care for the chicken and pastries. Some buffet staff members are super friendly and some are easily irritated to move you along the line. read more

I came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I like that they open at 5:30 AM. This is definitely a local place. They have cheap pastries and cakes. We ordered a couple of plain and cream filled croissants. The croissants were fresh and delicious. The staff were very nice and helpful. I have been coming here since I moved here in 2000. This is my favorite place for pastries. As far as I am concerned there is no place better. I like the breakfast and lunch as well but the pastries rank #1 for me. I was very skeptical when their business was bought out but they retained their bakers who had been with them for years so nothing has changed. Every pastry is just as good as it has always been. In addition to the food menu, there is a variety of pastry delights. I went here during lunchtime and it was packed. The dining area was almost filled to capacity and the lines were long to the food and to the pastries (separate lines). I ordered a (3) veggie vegetable tray to-go and it was only $4. I could tell from the smell the veggies were seasoned well and they were. I ordered 2 donuts, 1 iced croissant and 1 Bavarian croissant. The Bavarian croissant was my favorite. Glazing croissants is brilliant. stuffing them with cream cheese/vanilla/jelly/whatever your heart desires is pure genius. I'll definitely be coming back here for the glazed croissants with cream cheese! the combination of the flakey croissant with yummy warm glazing makes this pastry melt in your mouth! The coffee here is not that great though- it was really watered down. This place also offers lunch options- it comes in a cafeteria style plate (protein + 2 sides) the green beans looked like hospital food so I took a pass on the actual lunch options but my co-workers really enjoyed the lunch food so maybe i'll give it a try next time! read more

He ordered a pimento cheese sandwich thinking that maybe it would have been homemade... We watch the lady pull out a giant tub it appeared to of come from Sam's club, slap some pimento cheese on a piece of bread that was not even toasted, and then charged us $2.50 for that bad boy...
