Some of the reviews for this company specifically from Ben P. and Ern D. are absolutely spot on. Wish I would have seen them before talking to these people. These people will push you to get ARMs because they make more money at the backend with ARMs. Keep in mind they are selling your mortgages to the big banks and making huge $$$$$ off them. The only reason why big banks buy from them is because they are selling those loans at higher rates to you. Each broker is making a pretty good commission on ARMs. Ensure that you get plenty of quotes before even getting pre-approved with such mortgage brokers. Definitely recommend getting pre-approval from a well-known bank! This business is basically a honey trap for first time homebuyers or people who don't have enough information about the mortgage business or the housing market. Ask them for details and they will get pushy on you. Pressuring you to close and offering you quicker closing time are some of their tricks to close the transaction. You won't have enough time to delve into the details. Trust them at your own peril! They know and enhance your FOMO as they are constantly creating false impression of FOMO! Remember - You are not missing out on anything, if you miss out on one home that you like, you will find another one. But never fall into their FOMO trap. They have their relatives in the Real Estate business. Husband and wife teaming up as realtor and mortgage broker will take you for a ride that you will regret for life. Be careful and understand every single detail before you ever think of locking your ARM rate with them. They are going to brush aside your questions by saying that these are just standard papers that everyone signs. The hidden numbers are where they will get you! Notice that when you meet these people they will talk more about things that are irrelevant than answering your questions about the loan. This is one more ploy to get you distracted and earn your trust so that they can get you to do what they want you to do. Watch the 2015 movie 'The Big Short'. You will get an idea of how these people reassure you and instill a false confidence in you when you are buying a home. Remember they get their commissions immediately after the transaction closes, even the Title company is out of it. But then you are stuck with a mortgage that could really go south in the long run! Offering you to keep refinancing is also another gotcha as they keep getting commissions each time you refinance your ARM. Also, when they say refinance at no cost to you -- please take time to get a written estimate to understand what refinance at no cost really means. There are several gotchas. I had an awful experience dealing with Cal Coast and I am hoping that this review will help others make a better decision if and when they decide to deal with this company. read more

My most recent purchase was a very complex Jumbo loan situation. This company is filled with nothing but crooks. I refinanced my home with them and I came to learn that after everything was finalized they over charged me for ridiculous fees. The interest rate I received was purposely raised so they could make more money on the back-end. I learned all this by taking my final docs to Wells Fargo a couple of months later, to fix the loan, since I had a feeling I got suckered. I qualified for a way lower rate than what Cal Coast gave me and the only fees I paid were for processing. DO NOT go outside the banks to refinance and stay away from crooks like these! Their only interest is to make money off of you. Go directly to the banks! It's these type of people that have ruined people's lives and helped ruin the home economy. This mortgage company is as good as it gets when refinancing or purchasing. I shopped around extensively and I also went to Wells Fargo like the other reviewer, and they had .5% higher rate than cal coast. Banks always have many hidden fees people are not aware of until they sign their final documents. Cal Coast not only beat Wells Fargo's rate but it was a no cost loan. I ended up getting a 30 yr. fixed on a 500 K loan amount of 4.375%. Eric Bergeron was my loan analyst and Naeem Wahab was my loan officer; they both were very helpful, prompt in returning my calls, and answering all my questions. Eric was determined to do what was best for me, not himself. Believe it or not there are good, honest people at mortgage companies, you just have to find the right one. I recently bought a house in San Ramon, CA. One of the key criteria for the offer was that we should be able to "CLOSE" the deal in 10 Days. This in itself was a great challenge; all the big names like Citi, BoA, Wells Fargo flatly refused and said that they cannot even get Appraisal done in this time. Last month my wife & i were referred to Cal-Coast by the listing agent during the open-house at a Hayward condo. We were told that Cal-Coast had an inside-track on financing for this property, because they had just represented a previous offer that fell through They've taken us for a ride since then, and at present we are their captive-clients. Our initial offer in August to purchase this condo has been extended twice, because Cal-Coast repeatedly failed to meet their own deadlines to secure financing (despite paying a thousand dollars for "expedited" underwriting) On top of this and other conventional closing costs, they're also charging an additional 2.5% origination fee for their so-called Service. Meanwhile, they continue to promise results "next week" At this point, we would gladly pass on the buying opportunity & are actually hoping that our loan will simply be denied - so that we can be released from dealing with this loan broker, and still get our deposit back from escrow ! Until recently we've always refinanced through BofA, Wells Fargo and other big names. We were referred to Cal Coast Financial by a close friend of ours and I would sincerely say these folks are the only people who had our best interests at heart. They worked aggressively with the lender in our favor - something that never happened with any of the banks that just gave us whatever was on the table. Cal Coast got us the best rate bar none ... and we shopped around. I don't know what to say about the folks who are sabotaging these reviews because my experience was completely different. I wouldn't be surprised that some of these folks who sought the "security" of a big name bank were also persuaded to believe that anything other than a big bank will be shady. That clearly wasn't the case here. People commented about lapses in communication. I've never had more than a couple of days without a reply to my emails or calls. Sure, I would have preferred to get contacted in the next 12 hours every single time but that's never been the case with anyone we've ever refinanced with. BofA and Wells Fargo kept us more in the dark than anyone else. In our case the loan was for a large amount (over 1.5 million) so we had a unique set of hurdles. Unlike the big banks, they were actually able to explain a lot of the nuts and bolts of how they were going to get it done. As usual there were obstacles but our agent was willing to explain them and detail out potential solutions ... the big banks always seemed to keep us in the dark as if it was an inconvenience to explain anything and only relayed information to the lender. IMO, the proof is in the pudding. Regardless of the process or details, Cal Coast came through with a better rate than anyone else. It's unfortunate to think the negative reviews are orchestrated attempts to sabotage their business. I say it doesn't hurt to give them a call to discuss your needs. I had been in the US for just a year, with just over a year of credit history and work history. I still wanted a jumbo loan with less than 20% down. Nearly all the other lenders rejected my case outright. But Naeem and George of Calcoast were open and responsive. They took my case seriously, negotiated with multiple lenders, got the necessary exceptions approved and gave me a good deal on my first and second mortgage for a new purchase. I was already working with another lender and these guys were the backup. Even after making this clear to George, he was still as diligent as ever and went through the entire process till the very end. The loan agent left after we signed papers,(literally), he failed to answer calls, emails, etc , even though we verified he was still with the company! Our realtor finally made everything move for us! However we did not get the keys until 13 days later after we signed because the loan agent's total lack of professionalism! I wish I had read the other comments before pursing my home mortgage thru Cal Coast Financial, because I would not have chosen them had I read the other negative comments. This review is specific to the services received for acquiring a mortgage for a new home purchase thru broker Kathleen Senna. We are very unhappy with the services rendered and we DO NOT recommend her for new home purchases! Her conduct was unprofessional and deceitful. We were not given our entire lender's credit to which we were entitled because of some bogus calculations she rendered. We had the documents reviewed later by a 3rd party, who also cited that our full lender's credit was not given to us. She said she does not read the preliminaries to the property or all emails sent to her, which is an unprofessional practice when you're handling such important financial information. This negligence caused us more trouble during the loan process. Since we were referred to her, she had promised several times that the person giving the referral would receive a referral 'thank you' once she was paid. After she was paid she backtracked and did not follow-thru with her word. Overall: VERY UNHAPPY with the lender and the broker, would give a 0 if possible. We will be moving our loan elsewhere ASAP. Maybe they are ok for refinance services, but definitely do not recommend for new home purchases. read more

We were referred to Cal Coast early this year through my husband's friend and although I was hesitant because they were not a regular bank, they were fantastic in helping us refinance our home and get out of an FHA loan that was costing us a lot extra for mortgage insurance and also getting us almost a half percentage point less of a fixed 30-year mortgage rate. I went to Wells Fargo and requested assistance to help us refinance but they were not at all as helpful as Cal Coast and they were not offering us as low of a rate. Cal Coast worked very closely with us to get all the paperwork we needed together which really was a big help. So in late March 2013, Cal Coast was able to get us a 3.875% fixed 30-year rate!!!
