Funny enough, at first glance, this tasting room felt *very* corporate - there's tons of space to spread out, but the overall vibe of the place was something like "museum gift shop". You can tell the receptionist is just a receptionist and has nothing to do with the wine's creation, which isn't inherently bad, it just sets a different tone than some of the *smallest* port tasting rooms. That said, their prices were extremely reasonable pretty much all across the board, including a base flight for 12.50 euros that had multiple standouts for the trip, enough so that this was the only tasting room where I went back a couple days later and self-constructed a second 20 euro flight that included a couple of their more somewhat more bottles. Though, funny enough, it was mostly their cheapest bottles that impressed me the most in their complexity of flavor - their tawny reserve, the Lagrima das Damas, the Lacrimosas, the base (slightly less sweet) white, and one truly interesting bottle, a Vinho Quinado, effectively a tawny port turned into an amaro with quinine and other botanicals, which as a cocktail nerd, obviously I loved learning about and trying. They *have* plenty of very expensive bottles, but the ones I mentioned were, as of when I visited a couple months ago, just *ludicrously* well-priced for how good they were. (I bought the most bottles here of anywhere I went, 3 including the Vinho Quinado - and would definitely have bought a couple more, if luggage weight hadn't been such a consideration.) I totally wasn't expecting to love their cheapest bottles, honestly, more than some of the much pricier ones I tried, here and elsewhere.

Good history-buff tour. Warm in the museum. Bit stuffy but a great place to view memorabilia and learn the history of this influential family. Ended with a port tasting that was quiet nice. I prefer smaller tasting groups thene being part of a large scheduled group. Service was very good.

BEAUTY ALL AROUND!!!! DELICIOUS PORTS AND SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF!…read more This is the most picturesque winery I have ever been to! It is also one of the oldest wineries in the valley. I booked the tour to the this winery because it was recommended by our hotel (24€ pp) . We got there 10 mins before the tour. Parking was right at the entrance and plenty of space to park. Next we headed to the wine shed for our checkin. Then we waiting for our tour to begin. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and explained us the details the difference between port and wine and walked us through the different stages of wine making! The last but not least was tasting the wines and I have to say that QDP went all out on this. We have tasted some of their finest selection and all 5 were phenomenal. We eneded up buying 20 year aged Port and 40year aged port. After visiting here we came to know that this is also a hotel. Next time I am definitely staying there .

The hotel is beautiful and the room was one of the bigger ones I had in Portugal. The wine tour and tasting experience was top-notch. We had dinner at the Wine House restaurant and did the tasting menu with wine pairing. Everything was delicious and fresh and we were able to taste amazing fish, foie gras, steak, and more. There was even a ginger palate cleanser and a tasty dessert. The wines were excellent. And the price was so reasonable I had to read it again! It was a little jarring the next day when we went to the same restaurant for breakfast and it was not a lot of selection and poorly prepared.

The…read morepeople of Portugal have treated us with courtesy and smiles all over the country, and there are amazing sites and vistas here. But if you want to immerse yourself in the feel of Porto as a living, breathing city, a day with Cook in Ribeira will epitomize the magic of Porto through wonderful food, wine and vitality. Vitor, our host, driver, market guide, chef and entertainer was completely marvelous. We had a market and cooking class for myself, my wife and our two daughters. Vitor took us to a real Porto food market (not a tourist stop), and talked with us at length as we selected the menu for the day to suit the tastes and needs of our group. His teaching kitchen in the heart of Porto was divine, and perfectly suited to a casual day of cooking and conversation. We made sautéed prawns in rosemary and garlic butter, mushrooms with red onion and peppers, sea bass and prawns cooked in shrimp stock, tomato and rice, and a caramelized almond tort. All made from scratch by one of us under his gentle supervision. I forgot to mention the other add ons: amazing Portuguese bread, chorizo roasted in a terra cotta dish over an open alcohol flame, fish roe in olive oil and cilantro, and fresh cooked barnacle snacks. Plus a lovely selection of local white wines to accompany our meal. But the best part of the experience was Vitor himself, whose friendly, welcoming style made everyone feel like we had dropped in on a friend and cooked a 7-course meal on the spot of the moment. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with the world inside of Porto.
