We hired Cal Painting and Plaster to repair the plaster on the interior of our 1940's house and then paint. The plaster came out beautifully. Better than we could have ever hoped. The paint has been an utter disaster. It has been peeling off in strips all over the house since the job was finished in 2024. Even the repair that was done a year later has not held, and today installing shelves caused the paint on the repaired wall to peel off in a huge strip. The paint detaches from the wall if you bump it, it you put a sticky note on it to show where an outlet needs to be installed, and if you use painter's tape. The repair, where they stripped All the paint off the wall, applied a new primer and repainted is just as bad as before the repair. I don't know why this is happening. Neither Jake, Billy or any of the painters could explain. We heard something about using the wrong primer (on the whole interior), but even the "new" primer didn't hold the paint. Perhaps this is a fault with the paint itself, but since we only picked the color and they ordered and selected the paint, the quality was in their hands. We are teachers. We spent $40K on this job and it took us a LONG time to save that much. We can't afford to have this repaired by another company and we don't trust Cal Painting to do it either. read more

He seemed nice at first and was able to give me a estimate over the phone without even seeing the house and looking on google maps. I thought his price was a little high(this dude charges by the project=making magic numbers appear and homeowner paying more than necessary). This guy didn't go to medical school so in my opinion why should he try to charge people like he did? That being said you do get what you pay for but not in all cases. Costco Carpet via California Carpet Jerry Phillips Jerry was excellent and helped with all the arrangements. You have to be a member of Costco to get the better price and you get a Costco gift card as a rebate. Jerry even arranged movers to move the piano. The 2 men who installed the carpet were excellent, fast, and very careful. They were there all day without breaks. This was a lot of carpet and pad; a 2 day job. I can't say enough about the professional job that I received from Cal Painting. I obtained 3 quotes and Cal Painting is the only one who I felt wasn't over-charging me. I initiated a request for quote from HomeAdvisor, although I will not use them again as they do not screen there contractors properly. But right away on a Friday evening Chris returned my call and we spoke for a good 30 mins about my exterior painting project. Right away he showed me that he cared by taking the time to speak with me. Elizabeth scheduled a time to come out and showed me just how dedicated she was to her job and took the time to understand my concerns and meet my expectations. She mentioned that she would directly manage the project from start to finish which made me feel good. They gave me a very fair price compared to all the others and they were able to start the project within a couple weeks. On day one of the project Elizabeth and a crew of two (Oscar and Alex) showed up right on time and began work. I have dealt with many contractors and this is the first time that I was completely satisfied with the work done. The guys did an amazing job on our home. If I called out anything specific the guys took care of it right away. The guys were extremely polite and professional. Elizabeth did an amazing job managing the entire project. She was at my home 2-3 times a day just making sure everything was going smooth. There were a couple places that needed extra attention with some rotten wood and they were able to bring someone in and take care of it right away. Keep in mind that issues like this could end up costing a little more than it would if you had it repaired prior to painting. Cal Painting did the entire interior of my home to include de- popcorning my ceilings. This company does go the extra mile. Billie was in touch and onsite daily supervising the project. The painters are his employees and they are very skilled - neat and detailed. The popcorning scraping was sub-contracted out and a little messy but complete with Cal painting doing the finishing painting portion. The project was done in consecutive days, except Sunday which was important to my work schedule. Do to the Sunday day off, I had a chance to do my own compete punch list. Billie also did his and it was more detailed than mine. In addition during the job, he noted the need for repair on my baseboard. Cal Painting is without a doubt the best painting company available and I would not hesitate in recommending them to friends and family. In fact I already have shared our experience and recommend CalPainting to my family for future painting projects. I would like to share some of the most important, positive highlights for your consideration: I called for a quote and scheduled an appointment the following afternoon at 4:30 PM. At exactly the appointed time (4:30) a professional and personable Project Manager, Chris Wegman, arrived at my home. We walked my project and I carefully detailed out and my requirements and expectations. I followed up with a complete written "Scope of Word" detailing exactly what we had discussed on the walkthrough and precisely what I required and expected. Cal Painting agreed to all my terms and conditions without hesitation or reservation. As homeowners we all tend to be very concerned about the quality of the work and experience of the crew who will be contracted to start & complete the project. I only want to contract with professional, fully licensed companies who sincerely care about my home and property as though it were their own. No an easy task and impossible for most companies to understand and appreciate! After careful consideration, review and discussion I personally selected Chris Wegman and Cal Painting to contract the painting of my home. We scheduled the week of June 17 to start and complete the paint project On Monday June 17th Chris and his selected experienced crew arrive at precisely 8:00 AM to start the job. Chris and I accompanied the Project Forman, Oscar, and we spent time going over every detail and my expectations. I informed them if more paint was every needed, over and above the allotted amount contracted and expected, I would gladly pay for the addition paint needed to give me outstanding and superior results. We select Sherwin Williams Duration Latex, satin for the complete project. Every morning the same crew arrived at 8:00 and worked until 5:00 with a small break for lunch. Each day the site was left clean and all the equipment and paint materials properly stored. They always arrived on time, willing and eager to start the day. There was never any loud talk or music, everyone was polite and respectful, and all truly enjoyed and took pride in their work, painting my home with caring and detailing as they would their own. They all loved their work and functioned like a professional "Team". Each day Chris would come by to inspect and go over every step of the project. Where he felt the need to enhance or improve the appearance, he would discuss with me for approval then instruct Oscar and his crew to complete the task. I was most impressed with the meticulous care to prep work, which took the better part of two days to complete. There were never any short-cuts taken and each painter had the same care to detail to the project. I wish I had never hired Billy and his team. In my opinion, I paid for the job to be 100% completed. It's not. Right now, I have overspray on my sidewalk, door knob, mailbox and iron work. I have a bare patch on one of my fascia boards. They didn't tape to paint around my windows so I have wiggly paint lines between the wall and the windows which is very obvious on my front porch. I haven't heard from Billy in three weeks - and I'm okay with that. Also, check his math carefully. When he told me the balance due, I knew it wasn't right. So I added it up and he was overcharging me by about $200. First the positives: the gutters and stairs look fantastic. Also, Billy and his team were always on time and the job was completed on time. The workers were friendly. After the job was completed, I started to notice little errors here and there. When trash day came and I moved my bins out to the street, I found their empty paint buckets behind my bins. I can't just put those out as garbage. That was the final straw. I contacted Billy right away with a list of about 12 items. While each item was small-ish, they all added up. Things like overspray on my sidewalks, a holiday (missing paint), paint drops on EVERY window. Oh yeah, they didn't remove the door knob, so I had a nice red door with white circles around the knobs. He agreed to fix all of those. My biggest grievance is that my contract clearly shows that the eaves would be caulked and painted and that my fascia boards would be sanded and painted. Neither of these was done. Billy swears the fascia boards were sanded. I disagree. They look bad. Billy did fix the little problems. Well, the fascia boards still look bad and I expect them to peel next summer. And as far as the caulking and painting (which is clearly written in the contract), he said it would be $150 more to do that. He said the contract refers only to the front porch area where people will see it. No where does the contract say "front porch only." While this was part of the contract, I agreed to pay more just to get it over with. He said it would take his team two half days. They finished in under three hours, and it looks it. I sent him a photo of the work I wanted to talk to him about. It's been three weeks, I haven't heard a thing. And really, I don't want to hear from him again. Side note: Billy spoke with his crew in Spanish when they came back to fix some things. They didn't think I could understand them. While they didn't say anything rude, they were speaking in a way they shouldn't have in front of a customer. If you decide to hire Billy, consider offering 15-20% off the quote as that is the quality of work they did for me. read more

I use this company for the first and LAST time. I met with Chris and he seemed friendly and up-front. We talked about what I wanted to have painted and we seemed to be on the same page. When we talked about the work to be done he said he understood what I wanted painted which included the kitchen cabinets.The initial quote he sent me was $3175.00 after everything we had discussed. So, I was under the impression that was the full amount, WRONG! He said that he didn't include the kitchen cabinets even though I specifically asked for the cabinets initially. So he charged me additional $625. Pretty sneaky Chris. He also sub-contracted another painting company to come and do the work in my home. Billy and his crew painted the exterior of my house last week. I must say that it was a pleasure to work with such a pleasant bunch. They did a good job, though there were some glitches. One of the wood panels on the front wall needed to be scraped and sanded before the painting. This was not done very well, so the new paint began peeling off. I had them scape it off, prime it, and paint it again. Some cracks in the rafters were also not caulked and I had to point that out as well. But they completed the necessary repairs cheerfully. I painted our 2 story house 15 years ago when I was still younger and daring. House located on downslope so the top of the fascia and gable area very high. I wore helmet and harness and did the whole exterior myself. Nearly slipped off ladder a few times. Scary days indeed. Now the merciless sun (where is the el nino?) has flaked my paint job and cracked the stucco it was time to repaint. My loving wife adamantly refused to let me go up again....too dangerous. So it was a blessing that Cal Painting's Elizabeth Cho came out very promptly and gave us a meticulous and detailed estimate of the work to be done. She is only one of the 4 to 5 companies that specified missing stucco repair for smooth, finished look. Since her price is reasonable, we decided to go with Cal painting. Elizabeth as project manager was on site daily to oversee the prepping, patching, and caulking of the exterior, and all through the final finishing touches. It took about 2 days prepping and 3 days total painting to finish the job. It looks marvelous, the colors compliment each other perfectly, as suggested by Elizabeth. OMG, Chris/Luis make an appointment for 9:00 AM. 9:20 AM no show, no call. 40 minutes later I get a call with sorry but I have a good reason. Several calls later I decided to give Chris/Luis another chance. When I didn't want to hear how Chris was gonna charge me more than others would, he started speaking to me like I was an idiot. He then asked "what was I expecting?" I stated I am expecting repair and painting. Chris said I don't understand the scope of the work and the project was way to big for him.
