I don't regret going to Cal Poly, but... as with any school, it has it's ups and downs. I like most of my teachers and the campus is nice... but I really despise our food selection. Especially during the summer session when the only thing opened is Carls Jr., Panda Express and Subway. You really get tired of eating that stuff!! Awesome school with a do by learning approach! Graduated in accounting and had a few intern opportunities to build my career. After graduation I immediately became a cal poly Pomona employee as a Budget Assistant. I then left CPP for an great opportunity with the Auditor-Controller. Since then everything is pretty much history! Love what I do but overall I'm grateful that CPP prepared me into getting in to a business mindset of the real world. California State Polytechnic University is a great university to study, especially if you're studying engineering like I am. The real-life hands on approach to learning that this university employs is the key to students' success. I don't think this is the place for third-rate students that are merely looking to party and be cool and scrape by their classes. This is the place where achievers come to study. Another reviewer gave this university 2 stars and called it "dweeb city" ... well, one those "dweebs" is going to be her boss one day. And there actually is a huge amount of networking and community if you seek it and partake in it. read more

I'll admit that I didn't start out my undergrad years at Cal Poly, but I did finish off my last two years here and compared to where I started and where I've been.....Cal Poly was really a great experience for me. I loved how the class sizes were small, my teachers knew who I was by name, the advisors were great, and the head of department even knew who I was. There's lots of great "clubs" and things to meet people. I was in PIHRA...a great group to belong to when you are an MHR major! I was a big-time commuter from Temecula and never really had any problems finding parking. I made great friends that ended up being in all my classes since we were on the same track. read more

"Learn by doing" is Cal Poly's motto. Most of the professors know their stuff. They put emphasis on the motto and want you to do things in order to learn. Parking here is pretty bad if you don't come early. It feels like it gets worse every quarter. They do have a free shuttle program but sometimes the wait is long. Good news is that you can track the shuttles on their website. They also have estimated wait times at certain stops. Lots of farm animals. Ducks are a cool sight. Gotta visit the Japanese Garden and the Rose Garden. read more

It is what it is. It mainly just depends what your major you are and if you know how to make friends. Speaking for the Food Science in the Ag department, it's relatively small in student and faculty compared to other local Food Science colleges. With that being said, the budget and opportunities to experiment are lower, although it's doesn't affect gaining not learning because that falls on the individual itself to seek out and become involved. The FS department does their best to make sure you know of all community and national events/conferences to brand yourself out and become more aware. Keep in mind, not everything is going to be handed to you on a plate. read more

It's a beautiful and clean campus. I like this school because the teachers are excellent. My first teacher is a beautiful woman who called Rebekah, and she also is a helpful and patient teacher. So far I have loved this school...I transferred from Ventura College after a few years of going there while working full time in the area. I'm stoked to be going here, the staff is awesome and the students are pretty nice. All the services you could want for a university are offered, and for those who fail out or can't cut it, honestly it's your own fault because every kind of study service that you could think of is available. The food selection for on-campus dining could be a little better, but that's usually par for the course with school campus's. LOVED this university, and wish they offered my master's program so I could have stayed. I transferred in from Mt. San Antonio College and received a BA in Gender, Ethnicity, and Multicultural Studies (GEMS). Transferring in when I was 23, I was not interested in the Greek life or any of those social events. I was there for myself and wanted to get in-and-out as quickly as possible. Having graduated from GEMS with priceless information that I can use on a daily basis, I've acquired the upmost respect for this school and the faculty and staff who assisted in my undergraduate success. The school itself is a little outdated and only the most popular majors (business, engineering, architecture, etc...) get the newest buildings. The smaller majors, such as mine, gets older classrooms however, the rooms are typical and are in no way distracting to ones education. The absolute best thing that I loved, that I felt helped with my academic success, was meeting with the chair of my department and having her tell me what was expected of me before I entered the program. This alleviated stress and I began to form a relationship with her, which came in handy the two years I was there. I would advise anyone to do the same with chairperson of their department. The library is wonderful and I didn't know it had so many levels until a few months prior to graduation. The new WREC Center, gym area, is also very nice though I never got a chance to use it. They also have so many places to eat! I never understood the "freshman ten" until I got here! Because of the age in which I entered Cal Poly, my mindset was very different than that of an incoming freshman however, I think anyone would love the amenities this school has to offer. Their textbooks are VERY CHEAP compared to Mt. SAC and my current graduate program (that I miss), although 1-2pm is prime time for classes and can take you over an hour to find a parking spot at times, so give yourself enough time to find a spot! The only con I had with this school was the parking. In the two years I was here I received three parking tickets, one of which was not my fault and I showed the discrepancy I found on their parking website. They could care less. They are also REALLY FAST at giving out parking tickets, my other two tickets given 10-15 minutes after parking my car. Don't mess around with their parking attendants. Other than that, I loved the experience here. I now understand why people have so much pride in their alma maters. This school introduced me to a major that was 100% meant for me, put me in the presence of the most educated and open-minded faculty and staff, and awarded me my bachelors. I love this school and will always speak well of it, as well as my GEMS program. read more

My Alma mater, the professors whether they were hard or not were all very helpful and would do as much as possible to aid you during their office hours. Oh boy did I need the help in some classes. My first 3years I was a pre-med student w/ a minor in anthropology whose mind started to ache the minute I stepped into class. Than I switched to anthropology as a full time major and doubled in biology. I was one of many to take the 5year route but I wouldn't trade any of my 5years at this school because I met some of the greatest loves and people in my life. The university is spacious and has close to 25k students with great agriculture surrounding it. Parking is a pain sometimes but if you don't mind walking than so be it read more

Their Engineering program kicks ass - very humbling.

Engineering Technology major. This was the worst experience of my life. I had Massoud Moussavi as my Dept chair. I started doing my senior project early during the summer, and was planning to finish by fall. However, due to a glitch in the Oracle software and user error by the staff, Moussavi claimed many students got into senior project without meeting prerequisites (which change every year). Even though he approved me in the previous Spring, he claimed to not even know me or have ever met me by Fall. He then told me to forget my senior project after 5 months of work, and gave me an F in senior project class. When I tried to stand up for myself and work something out, professor Moussavi snapped, and started screaming at me 5 inches from my face. He shouted that there was something fundamentally wrong with me as a human being and to get the hell out of his department and quit school. Not only was this unprofessional, it is unacceptable behavior in any setting. Not only did Massoud Moussavi ruin my future and force me to pay for another year of school for no reason, he verbally abused me in front of other students and destroyed my self esteem. When I went to student affairs and the Dean of my department, they told me I had no evidence and no case, so I should just shut up and keep my head down. If you are ready to get treated like crap and have your self esteem ruined while competing against everyone around you, by all means attend Cal Poly Pomona, the worst cal state university. read more

Now, I am a student at CPELI. I think when I learn English well in the future, I will go to Cal Poly Pomona to have my college's lessons. I love the environment here and every noon, I like to sit under the tree near by the playground. It makes me feel relaxed. However, the parking lots here are a little bit few. read more

Currently an ESL student there, the institute is basically 3 shacks, but they're not really bad, the teachers there seem to enjoy teaching us. The university it self is very beautiful overall. But be warned, there WILL be traffic, all the time, if there isn't any traffic, know that people got abducted or something. Overall a nice university with great potential. read more

The campus is beautiful and green. Just like any college experience it is what you make of it. I have been fortunate to get some great professors during my time here. Of course there have been some not so great professors but that comes with anything. They have been adding more and more parking to accomodate students. Make friends with advisors and professors especially if you plan on going to grad school. Overall, I've had a good experience even though I've stayed longer than I should. Haha read more

I'm absolutely disgusted with this school at this point. While on paper many may say this school is "decent", it seems this university finds new ways to prove that UC's are superior in every way. Speaking from a college of business student's perspective, it seems many of their professors are very incompetent and have no interest in actually doing anything productive for students, preferring to read off powerpoint and simply assign work. Most tend to be foreign with thick accents and impatient behavior. The Selling point that made this school deserve one star in my opinion is adding classes. Ranging from one professor teaching 2 sections for the entire Finance department to some classes simply having one section, there's a severe lack of quality and care regarding the instruction of students. The final straw is their registration. Today marking a registration day, the administration decided to have every single student have the same enrollment date and time resulting in the website crashing. On top of that I'm currently waitlisted for 4/5 classes. It really is not a joke when others tell you you will not graduate in 4 years here. Do the smart thing and go to a UC or CC and transfer. you'll be happier for it. read more

Would get 5 stars except parking is the absolute worst. It's like going to downtown LA trying to find a parking spot. People sit in their cars and pick up students saying hey let me take you to your car (as if thats totally cool and couldn't be dangerous). The campus is cool modern but very academically focused. I get in and get out , so easy to stay focused. read more

Low standards. Many (most?) students lack basic English skills. Students only interested in "getting out". Note students here don't speak of graduation, but "getting out". More like a prison than a college. No one goes here by choice. Either they didn't get into a good college or their parents wouldn't pay for one. read more

Graduated from here in 2011 with an undergrad in Business, I am so glad I picked this Cal State over the other schools I got accepted to. The teachers really care, small classes, beautiful campus, and there's always something going on. Tuition is not too bad, compared to UC's or for profit schools. This school is definitely a school where you get out as much as you put in, so make sure to get involved with clubs, orgs, and activities to get the most out of your Cal Poly experience. read more

Their English Language Institute is great. I've studied here for just over a month and I'm loving it. They have fun events almost every Friday. Not to mention the great teachers, especially Rebekah. Cal Poly Pomona, this is a large University with many educational services. they have a good environment to explore and learn about your career with the modern building as well. the campus is so nice when there are lot of place to have fresh air. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience about my ID card. my name was incorrect in the system and they asked me to come back to my program to fix it. after 5 times walk up and down, the error wasn't fixed. I got mad at that. there was not enough parking and they are building a new parking structure which will take approximate 2 years. bad luck for someone who enroll in this and next year because you will need to fight for the parking. I have no problem with the educational program in CPP. read more

I transferred from Citrus to Cal Poly and I'm so happy with my choice. I visited many colleges, but it doesn't get much better than Cal Poly for Veterinary Science! I always feel safe on campus and can't wait for my first semester to start in the fall! read more

Horrible staff. In the administration building (aka the CLA), they are absolutely the most unhelpful people I have ever encountered. For one, they never seem to have enough staff on duty, whether it's busy or not. When the line goes around the building, 3-4 windows magically stay closed, while if there are 5 people in line, they shut down all but one. The most infuriating part is seeing the 20-30 other staff members behind them twiddling their thumbs at their desk. Then, you ask for help and the under qualified student at the front desk hasn't been trained to help you, so now they need to go get their manager, who just happens to be the meanest, angriest person in the office. This person treats you like the plague, and redirects you to another floor for someone else to treat you the same way. Also, in the 7 years I was here I never encountered a single male staff member (admissions CLA second floor), which I thought was strange. read more

The Mechanical Engineering program is amazing. After you finish the program you will easily make over $100,000 shortly after you graduate. The girls here are delicious especially around spring and summer quarter. This is the time they wear short shorts and mini skirts. This place rocks! read more

I am totally surprised of the lack of support Cal Poly is giving their students due to the Corona Virus. Classes are virtual which I understand . Stay safe stay home. Although with that the lack of communication with the Professors and students it can make it very frustrating. There NEEDS to be better communication. Not all students can learn the same . I thinks some of these professors are just compiling the work for the semester. Then breaking it down for the week. Checking their computer when the week is over . Not there to answer any questions or concerns of the students. Plus the cost of the semester is going up. Where is the fairness to the student . The professor is not suffering . The students are . Students are not getting paid to go to school. Students who might have worked on campus now can't have lost their income. THE COST OF THE SEMESTER HAS GONE UP. So on top of the LOSS of going to school on campus and the LACK of communication from professors, how are students supposed to feel the support from the school they chose to be there for them . Students DIDNT see this coming . Professors DIDNT sed this coming . But please work together and stop giving a half ass job to the student . WORK for your check and stop and get a LITTLE creative for your students. You would be surprised what the difference you would make. PLEASE HELP YOUR STUDENTS. read more

Good university, offers a great experience if your open to it. parking is at an all time low, very rare to find any unles your cool parking two miles from the campus and waiting an hour for a shuttle or walking for thirty minutes. the campus has made several new construction projects that are keeping the university very competitive and current. read more

I love this campus! Parking sucks during u-hour, and it suffers from some typical CSU bureaucracy, but overall I'm proud to be a bronco.
