My Son attend APU for only one semester. Thankfully he made the decision to transfer to California Baptist University. Best decision ever made!! Not a positive experience for him as a student or myself as a parent. Staff was rude and not helpful in communication when we reached out for help. They gouge their students for fees and this is unfortunate given young people go to them, and they are just looking for an education; not to rack up debt that they can't possibly pay back!! I'm a nursing student at Azusa Pacific University and have been deeply disappointed with the Financial Aid department. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and transparency has been frustrating. Instead of taking responsibility for their own administrative mistakes, they push the financial burden onto students and dismiss legitimate concerns. No student should have to fight this hard to be treated fairly. APU needs to do better in upholding integrity and supporting the students who trust them. read more

This is the worst school ever they tell the kids oh that unit doesn't count and then they make them take other classes. They push it so far that they have to take another semester 25,000 for another semester cause they want to screw the kids. I attended this school for about 3 years, I was attending during the time period the school banned gay couples/PDA on campus in fact. The energy of the APU environment is incredibly close minded and borders on being a cult. I did enjoy a few professors here, but other than that I hated every time I was on campus. It's almost BYU like in nature of an enforced conformity from personality to the cadence of speaking. I attended APU, as a transfer student, for 2.5 years and graduated in 2008. In my experience, I found APU to be a very bigoted and ugly establishment. As an African American, I was subject to dozens of unwelcome racial remarks, both pointedly as well as absentmindedly. A couple of which were: during Black History Month in chapel a student sat down next to his friends and remarked, " Great, it's Black History Month! I guess we'll all have to join hands and sing Negro spirituals!" Another incident involved a professor stating what he felt was a "ridiculous policy" to diversify his curriculum and include true Bible/ Christian stories with other races and in other parts of the world. When I sat with the VP in a meeting to tell him about some of these many instances over the years, he acted like I was totally crazy and confused and downplayed all of them. My years at APU were extremely painful. Even now, years later, it really hurts to recall some of the hateful comments and experiences I was subject to. I'm so glad to be away from there. APU is a very hateful, very bigoted organization. Due to my experiences there I left the Church entirely for several years. I am now a Taoist and am very happy. My son is a sophomore at APU and loves it there! He is receiving a solid education and has matured into a kind, respectable man. When he was hospitalized earlier this year, I had no less than THREE people from APU reaching out to me on almost a daily basis to check up on him. His friends were also praying for him. He made a full recovery and, while his professors allowed him to come back to school gradually, he didn't need to. As someone who personally attended a top 20 university, I would highly recommend APU. Grateful for them every day. read more

I have friends that went to this University. Azusa Pacific is a great school with lots of programs and electives. Some of the top graduated come here from all over the world. They have a big business program for business majors, and great Law Enforcement. It is a good University to attend. read more

I have been trying to get my degree conferred since Summer 2020. I have finished my entire 44 unit program and because of Covid, there have been obvious delays with state specific requirements. Because of this, the school refuses confer a degree even though the program is complete. When questions are asked about what's going on, the staff provides a run around with no clear answer. I have been told check back in January when I asked in December, and now I have been to check back in March. The school keeps moving the goal post without providing any information to its students. I do not recommend this school if you are contemplating coming here. read more

I have never attended or taught at this school. However, for at least 10 years I have received their mail addressed to someone with the same last name as I have but who is not related to me. I have tried unsuccessfully to get them to stop mailing me. I'm hoping this poor review might get their attention. As someone who has been a nursing faculty member for 30 years I can tell you that if an organization cannot manage a basic function like keeping their mailing list correct, they will likely have difficulties with other issues relevant to students ( such as financial aid, registration, grades, handling of complaints, technical difficulties, etc). Consider this a "red flag" that you may find it difficult to interact with this organization's various departments. read more

We were in parking lot gridlock trying to get out. Took forever. If we ever go there again we will park way far away and walk. I attended this university from 2019 until 2023, as a biological sciences major, psychology minor, and a student athlete. I was always excellent in my courses, I was involved, I was well known amongst my professors for being an overall good student who did their best to do what was asked of me. At this point in my education, I was about 95% complete with my degree. In February of 2023, I had two significant deaths in my family. My grandmother passed in early February, and not even a week later my mother passed unexpectedly as well. My mother declined over just a 12 hour period from the time she walked into the ER to the time that myself, a 22 year old girl, had to make the decision to take her off life support. Attending a Christian school, you would think that I would have received endless support from the staff for what I had endured. I was left a 22 year old girl, no siblings or extended family, alone with my widowed father. Suddenly I was now responsible for the finances for our family, I became a landlord, I had to figure out how to take care of not one but two family members who needed funerals, cremation, etc. all within a matter of weeks. At this university, everyone knows everyone, and these staff members who I was confiding in during this time KNEW me personally. They knew what kind of person I was, how much time and effort and struggle I had put into overcoming challenges in my life, I felt like they were on my side. However, when all of this transpired, I had decided that I needed to maintain one semblance of normalcy in my life, and I wanted to continue my education through the grief I was experiencing. I spoke to my professors, who were more than happy to accommodate my needs so that I could honor my mother by continuing my education. I had asked my professors if for the remainder of the semester, that I could attend my courses remotely via zoom or lecture recording, and come to the university to take my exams in-person on the day of the exam so that I would not fall behind. I did not think it was too much to ask, just to be able to do the lectures from home where I could be available for my father. Again, my professors were more than happy to assist me in doing this, as I said, I was close with all of them and the grieved for me too. For 2 weeks, I went on with this new plan, attending classes virtually, when out of the blue I received an email from the department of biology & chemistry stating that I was not permitted to continue the semester. They told me that I was breaking their attendance policy, and I needed to withdrawal for the semester and return in the fall, or withdrawal from the university entirely. When I proceeded to tell the department that continuing school was the one thing I had left in life, everything else had been taken from me, their response was that "I needed to take a break from school so that I could heal." It was laughable that the department felt as though they had the authority to decide what was best for me during such a horrible time in my life, especially when my tuition pays their salary. If I wanted to continue school, and I felt competent enough emotionally to do so, as I had already been doing successfully for the last few weeks, why should they interfere? I was receiving the same education as my peers, just virtually, which was seemingly no problem during COVID but suddenly IS a problem when a student undergoes lifelong trauma. I was not asking for much, only to continue my education that I was so close to finishing after years of funneling money into that university. So they proceeded to remove me from their Christian university when I needed support the most. They turned me away when I needed a community to fall back on, all because I couldn't sit in on a few lectures. read more

APU overcharged me by $11,400, but when I contacted their financial department to ask for a refund, they just said that graduate school is expensive and that they'll pray for me. I'd take them to a small claims court, but I can't afford a lawyer, so all I can do is learn from this experience and recommend future students to stay away! I got my PTA license for $10,000, so it was much more cost-effective (the salary difference between PTAs and DPTs does not make up for the high cost of DPT tuition). For more detail: I attended 6 months of DPT school at APU from January 2019-June 2019 until I realized how expensive it was (I got a bill for $30,000 when I thought that it was going to be $18,600). $30,000 equates to paying $5,000 per month for 6 months, which was much more than I had planned on paying. To arrive at $18,600, I had referenced the total cost of tuition for the degree and saw that it is $111,600 for 36 months. If that was the case, then I should have been charged approximately $111,600/6 months = $18,600. read more

I currently go to school here and in the nursing program. I think it's pretty great. The only thing that can get you down sometimes is the chapel requirement. However, if you're the least bit religious, it can be uplifting sometimes. The atmosphere here is pretty great and the food isn't too horrid. They're building a Chick-fil-A across the street to cater to the students so that should be good. (: The people are awesome. Like in most places, you choose who you surround yourself with, but for the most part, people are nice and very welcoming. There's two campuses so if you get lost, ask a student or go to the directories located in the front of both campuses. read more

If it hadn't been for an APU preview weekend, I wouldn't have been born! My parents met at APU about 30 years ago. I have Cougar blood running through my veins (not to be confused with the Tiger stuff that Charlie Sheen raves about)! I had a fantastic journey here, from walking on campus as a junior in high school participating in a preview weekend to the day I stepped into my car and moved away after 5 years as a student and another year as staff. As a student I found myself competing and captaining the Track and Field team, learning amazing side skills in my manager position in the IT department (IMT), had a blast with my residents in my 2 years as a Resident Advisor, learned a ton about art as a Graphic Design major (taking a couple classes in London wasn't to shabby either), and grew so much closer to God in every one of these situations. Did I also mention that I found my wife here as well!? Oh and that my mom runs the Cougar Walk BBQ grill venue? (Find Mama Mo and tell her Staphon sent you) This is the place I was forged and molded into a man of God, and I couldn't have asked for a better college experience! read more

I'm writing this review based on my experience of attending from 2011-2012. So forgive me if I don't remember all the different names of places and prof names/: as you read the review you'll know why I left. The tour is never what the university is ever like. From the student tour I had I thought this was filled with many (not all) Christian students. Come to find out it was completely opposite. Maybe a handful of Christians. I think I expected too much realizing that people that age are still trying to figure out who they are. Also being that it isn't a ministry school. If you come here as a transfer student it's hard. Actually it's just tough in general. I know for me I experienced depression. I tried to get out of and reached out to a few people to befriend, but they were standoffish. Come to find out later they both suffered with depression as new students. Even the school newspaper wrote an article on depression at Apu and other universities. Pray you get great roommates though! Idk why I paid for a private school because from the looks of east campus and the location I feel like I'm paying for a community college. Apu doesn't even have their own football field. It's in an unsafe neighborhood and citrus is a better looking college then Apu. Profs: Justin smith is the most chill and modern bible prof. He talked a little about Kanye west and we listened to Jesus walks. I loved it! Most of the bible profs are pretty cool. I had one bible prof that gave me so much grace twice on turning in late assignments I was so appalled! I forgot his name though /: If you're not white, you might experience some racism like I did. Ive got dirty looks from some white people and hated it. Especially if you're different from the norm. There is not much racial diversity here. I talked about racism with some of my friends in class and one girl who dressed like simple, but is gorgeous and probably white said she didn't experience racism. Yet the cool black sports guy admitted he experienced some racism. There was also something that went down on the trolley. It was Latin celebration week at school and some Latin students and their friends that I believe didn't go to that school but were part of the events ? Tried to go on they trolley to go to west campus but the white trolley driver refused. So they all walked to west. It was a mess and in the school newspaper. I think having to attend 3 times to church a week is too much. They should change it to two. I would typically go on Fridays at west campus since they gave you free donut holes outside of the campus. By the way, liturg puts you to sleep. Unless you're into hymns and old school church. Food: the mexi/cali or whatever it's called food is good. Similar to chipotle. I'd typically go to west campus for food. I love the panini sandwich at the hillside cafe or whatever it's called. If you're attending Apu for your masters. I hear Apu is a whole different school. I've only heard positive things about it. read more

Note: This review is about their exposition of the Dead Sea Scrolls. What a fabulous exposition. From the beginning... displaying the real fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, through the miraculous journey of the makings of the bible as we know it today. This is a Must See opportunity! Whether you are of Christian faith, or Other faith, or no faith at all, I believe it is still worth the few bucks to study and see firsthand the history of the bible. It was amazing to see the actual fragments of the Dead Sea scrolls. You can actually read parts of what made the bible text from these fragments. Simply amazing! I was in awe to learn of the many people that sacrificed their lives in writing and publishing the bible. The exposition is being held in the Darling Library of the Azusa Pacific University. Parking was great, but refreshments were scarce. There was a line when we went, and not a lot of sun shade, so be prepared. In the end it was totally worth it. If you are a student at all, bring your ID! $10 off!! I do not recommend this university to anyone I know, and thank goodness they listen. Not this location itself but the establishment is horrible. They advertised a discount because of where I was employed, so being the financially responsible person I am I applied for this university. I reached out to everyone I could about them giving me the discount they were still advertising online and they never did. They didn't stop advertising the discount until months after, I wonder who else they took money from. Make sure you don't rely on their website information before giving them your money. The school's motto, "God First," informs all that happens on campus--classes, chapels, events, etc. I've been especially impacted by my time in the Honors College, a faith-oriented, great texts program. I consider the Honors College to be one of the greatest parts of APU--a place where students come together to discover what is good, true, and beautiful. read more

I will never recommend Azusa Pacific to anyone I know. My son got injured playing basketball representing their school. He tore his achilles during a game, and after his surgery they offered no support to him. He could not get to class or to any of his appointments. Because of this, he had to stop going there and come home to rehab. Thank God for his basketball coach- they did not expect us to pay back the scholarship money that was given to him....but the school has demanded he pay back the $4,000 in grants that he received. Well of course we cannot afford that payment...and they are holding him "hostage" by not releasing his transcripts. On one hand they want their money, but on the other they are preventing him from going back to school (another college) to finish the 1 year that he needs...and also they are preventing him from getting a decent job (so he can start to make payments), all because they won't release his transcripts. He wants to eventually pay the money back...but Azusa is making it almost impossible! I think every situation is different and should be evaluated as such. I would totally agree with their decision had he woke up one morning and decided he didn't want to go there anymore, and just quit school....but that was not the case at all with my son's situation. If my son would have never been injured he would have finished and received his degree. I honestly do not view Azusa as a Christian school at all. They have showed no grace or compassion. I went to an Azusa-Pacific football game in Azusa, CA on 9/8/2018. I've seen several of their games before. This year (2018) they are playing their games at Citrus Stadium (which is actually in Glendora, CA). The Azusa-Pacific Cougars defeated the visiting Simon Fraser Clan by a score of 58-14. The Simon Fraser Clan are from British Columbia, Canada. Entry to the game was $13, I had free parking and the only programs are now online. Plus, I took photos. read more

I began reading and I was surprised by the many negative reviews of APU. I have found the credential track to be fairly solid. The people I have met are interested in and engaged in the classes; I lucked into being around so many good people. I am troubled by the Canvass system and the lack of symmetry that exists among the professors with the use of Canvass. It has taken me a great deal of time to work to figure out how to navigate each teacher's individual instructions on Canvass. Tech support is needed. I would like to see at least three to four hours of a class dedicated to the orientation of Taskstream, Canvass, and e-portfolio. Professors all use the system in a different way, and it has been a challenge to keep up with many changes. The complaints that I have read about APU otherwise are, in my opinion unfounded. read more

Okay, so I will start this review by doing a little bit of background. I was born into the Roman Catholic faith and even though I no longer attend Mass due to issues concerning the Church and the state of Islam in the eyes of the West, I do affirm to my beliefs. I did not attend Azusa Pacific, and based on some of the reviews on Yelp, I do believe it was a smart and logical decision to earn my degrees at Long Beach City College, Long Beach State and Keller Graduate School. The reason I do rate Azusa Pacific highly are a number of things. First, their graduate degree programs are being advertised in the same mold as DeVry, so getting a Master's Degree from APU is like getting that from Keller. Secondly, their athletics program is what attracts people to the school. Azusa Pacific has won eight straight Director's Cups at the NAIA level and because of their athletic success, they are now playing in the NCAA Division II. Third, and most important, is the football team. Azusa Pacific is the only Southern California school that plays football in Division II and represents the region the same way Humboldt State represents the North. In terms of value, it's a steal. You can spend about $40 buying tickets for average football from USC and UCLA or spend $12 watching a consistent winner in Azusa Pacific, that has won a national championship in the NAIA and also earned some conference titles in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. So if you decide to attend APU as an undergrad, the religious and financial obligations will need to be your responsibility to bear. Otherwise, it's all about the grad programs if you want to take a dive but it's more so about watching the sports because the athletics are what makes Azusa Pacific worth visiting. (The only school that may be better that APU in terms of athletics at their level is Cal Baptist, but they don't have a sponsored football team.) Also, bear in mind that they play their home football games at Citrus College's Citrus Stadium, located just next door. read more
