The line always moves fast and the food comes out quickly too. What compelled me to write this review was because I had a delicious pescado a la diabla, which was a daily special. The fish was a huge portion -- a whole filet with a delicious spicy sauce, perfectly cooked and flaky. The rice and beans are always great, perfectly seasoned and cooked. I also had a passionfruit margarita which was big and well balanced. The salsa bar is very good; the habanero salsa is really tasty but their old version without cream was one of the best salsa I ever had and I'm so sad they don't offer it anymore. It was legitimately spicy. I always love coming here with my friends after a movie so we can discuss the flick over some great mexican food.

My friend and I swapped a taco from each of our plates, so I was able to try their tacos al pastor and tacos del mar with halibut. The al pastor was particularly flavorful and well marinated, and to my surprise, I enjoyed the pineapple bits in the taco. The halibut tasted fresh and the chipotle sauce on top paired nicely. I also love a good side of rice and beans and I can't even put my finger on it, but it was just so tasty. It got pretty busy during the dinner rush and I was seated right along the order line, but nothing too disruptive to our dining experience. Overall, the food was solid, the staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the vibes were upscale-casual and lively.

I wouldn't get this again as it was way too filling for me and instead would opt out for the taco or quesabirria next time. Service was friendly and quick. I really enjoyed the vibe in there and understand why it's a recommended spot.

All I can say is that this restaurant has really tasty food along with a great and clean establishment and helpful workers. I've been here only three times and I'm still surprised with how friendly the workers are. They greet me with smiles and do their best to keep customers happy. Not only that, but when it came down to the actual food, I was very pleased. The food was ready in a few minutes and it was hot, fresh, and delicious. My favorite are the fish tacos, which are pleasing to the eye and taste buds. The burgers are really something. You can definitely taste the hand crafted goodness and quality is high. Breakfast burritos are a must from Cal Taco. I'm personally not a big fan because of the egg part but the burrito I had was packed with flavor and filling and I ate the eggs, too! Overall, I love this place. Im even going to invite some friends to join me on my next visit. I'm always happy when I leave and I can't get enough of this place. I've been in Goleta for awhile and have stopped by Cal Taco for the special ($1.49 burger Sun-Tues), which is great, but I'm not so impressed by the other food. Maybe I just come in when it's really slow, but today I tried to have another go and Cal Taco fell short for me. It's called Cal TACO...so I decided to try out a taco this time. The meat they use is delicious, but for $2.25 EACH I wasn't really impressed. The shell was small and looked like a taco shell I could buy off the shelf at Albertsons, and the taco itself wasn't really full. I also got an order of fries, and they were mushy and bland. I'd say either bulk them up a little or reduce the price some. I normally don't like to nag on local businesses cause it's great they're around, but my last few visits at Cal Taco haven't wowed me like the Yelp reviews say. If I come back I will probably only get burgers from now on, but we'll have to see. read more

This place is definitely a place that you have to visit every Sunday with there special Burger Discounts. My friends and I hit this place up all the time especially with the late night munchies you want to get the Steak Burrito. I find the best time to show up is when there a little slow, which is actually hard to do, because you actually get to talk to the people who are behind the counter who are always smiling and talking about random stuff. Fantastic place for pick up. The menu is diverse and well-made across-the-board. I really recommend stopping in for a breakfast burrito or evening pick up burrito. I also got pink lemonade. Classic. Guac tasted quite oily. Needs more salt. The burrito was certainly a two meal kind of dish. Pretty giant. Love the salsa bar. I would love to learn how to make the marinated onions. I could eat bucket fulls of it if I had the capacity.
