This restaurant is a little difficult to get to from Ferguson Ave however it is worth the zigzagging. We went on a Tuesday so the special was 2 tacos for the price of one; only bistec or pastor. The corn ribs were a delicious appetizer. The tacos were just as delicious. The beans had pieces of beef fajitas, veggies and not spicy but full of flavor. My husband said the stuff potato was really good tasting, so big he was only able to eat half. The service was good; however there were only 3 staff waiting on the incoming customers. This is a super chill place! The music, the service, and the food! I got the carne asada papa & oh my gosh it was supposed to be an appetizer but it was HUGE! Hot & fresh! Went for a little hang out, first time there. When we entered, we were greeted and seated right away. No wait time, it was around 7:30pm on a Friday night. The murals on wall were very cute and decorated, I love how creative it is. We ordered our drinks and food and got our order right away. The food was delicious. My favorite had to be the elotes, it had a chipotle sauce and very savory. I loved that our waiter was very attentive and always asking us if we needed anything. One of my favorite places in the Valley to get some great-tasting tacos! I'm so glad that there's finally a location in Pharr. It's a little hard to find due to the highway construction, but it's well worth the journey. I have to complement the service here because the waiters are attentive and efficient. Be sure to come hungry because the portions are big! I started with a 32oz cucumber limonada preparada. It was refreshing and helps cool you off on a hot Valley day. For tacos, I highly recommend getting the Baja fish tacos because the fish is juicy and is wrapped in a nice crisp batter. It's also topped off with a generous portion of pickled red onions and their signature chipotle sauce. Overall, Calacas is a great addition to the Valley food scene and I'm glad they're expanding their locations. If you're in the mood for any kind of tacos, then give Calacas a shot! read more

Went for lunch on a Sunday despite their website stating otherwise. It was our first time eating and the food did not disappoint. For starters we got the frijoles rancheros. I was told they were good with the right amount of spice and flavor. We ordered the costilla de elote. Those were a hit. I was surprised to see that it was yellow and not white corn, however, despite that, they were super tasty and delicious. We actually licked our fingers which is so unusual for us to do. The tacos that we ordered - birria, al pastor, bistec, and fajita were great as well, especially al pastor. Overall, the prices were fair, service was good, ambiance was nice, and food tasted great. read more

Went to a work training and this place was recommended by several people. Tripitas street tacos were perfect. Extra crispy with good balance of avocado and onions/cilantro. The charro beans OMG so so good. They were tender and flavorful and served super hot. Service was quick , our waitress was attentive and checked in on the table frequently. The decor was bright and festive with sugar skulls throughout the pkace. Will definately be back to try different items on the menu. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Went here for my dad's birthday dinner. Made a reservation by calling ahead because we were a party of 9. I brought a cake and upon arriving our server asked if we wanted them to keep it cold in their fridge until we finished eating which was such a nice gesture. The service here was excellent! We were well taken care of by the entire staff. The aguas frescas we ordered were huge and you can add as many flavors to them as you like. The tacos we ordered were all delicious and a great portion for the price and the quesadilla my niece had was enormous. We ordered a couple of guacamoles for the table and they did not disappoint. After the meal when I went to ask for the cake, our server gave me a firework candle and a Mexican hat and told me that they would play "Sigo siendo el rey" and then sing las mañanitas to my dad. It was a hit and we all took turns wearing the hat and taking pictures. All in all, I highly recommend this place for the food and the great service. We will definitely return and this time I'll make sure to take some pictures of the food. Check them out! read more

Wow!!! Awesome place for tacos!! Great variety to choose from. I love mollejas so was curious about theirs. Very good but a bit different from others I've tried. Theirs are fried so I believe gives it a bit of a chewy kinda stick to your teeth type texture but I did enjoy it nonetheless. Good size chunks too vs chopped up style. Also orders the Baja fish tacos...great..Ribeye chicharron tacos...very tender meat and great presentation. The pork tostada...very good and fresh...and birria quesadillas...which I think were ok not very wow from others I've tried birria. The tamarindo drink was good too!!! Only thing I'm disappointed was all taco places I've been too serve complimentary charro beans...here they don't. Overall definitely coming back read more

Nothing like Brownsville, service was tough seems like we were rushed out of the restaurant. Burn tortillas and food a bit bland.

Started out with Barracho beans as an appetizer then for the entree Right now delicious Delicious Baja Taco's & Street Tacos. Cool atmosphere and the wait staff were friendly and well attentive. Would definitely come here again when we come back to McAllen. read more
