I was so disappointed with the product I received. It took two tries to finally receive a DVD program made from family slides. The DVD's were inferior, there were slides copied sideways when it was a slide of a person standing so there was no confusion as to which way to copy it. At least half the slides were out of focus and not a clear and sharp picture, when looking at the slides through my slide projector at home were sharp and clear. Several slides had too much light on them so the picture did not copy. Beware if you want a good product for the money. It was an expensive mistake for me. read more

I have been telling everyone what an outstanding customer service experience I had at Calagaz in Mobile. I have not had service like that in years. Natasha was amazing!!! I was able to get several accessories to compliment my new camera. She helped with filters and screen protectors and getting setup with the software and application communication. I was so impressed. She didn't rush me through, she was thorough and explained everything to me so that I understood. I am now using my equipment because of her. Natasha and Calagaz are a treasure. I'll return to them for all of my photography and printing needs. read more

With today's society of digital media, it's refreshing to see a full-service camera and photo store still open. They have a really nice building, a bit hidden down a side street. The staff was very knowledgeable and they even offer group training on cameras, as well as one one one training. Their prices aren't really the best, but they make up for it with their fine service. read more

Calagaz has been in Mobile for ages, and really, they've outlasted all their competitors. Now that I don't get as many pictures printed and I don't shoot as much film, I don't go in as often, but any time I need a new piece of equipment, I try to call to see what they've got, and they ALWAYS work with me to make sure I get what I need. I think their salespeople go out of their way to be nice, and they host some cool photography-related events there, and have promotions periodically. They also do commercial printing now, which I didn't know before, so you can get your business cards or anything else printed there and support a local business instead of just ordering them online. read more

We are so fortunate as a town to have an ACTUAL camera store right here in our town. And one that is so helpful with the products after the sale. Once I did have a problem with one of the items I bought from Calagaz and it was exchanged without argument. I am a local professional photographer. Both of my digital cameras were purchased from Calagaz from their used collection and I couldn't be happier. I often have to use them for last minute items such as replacing broken lighting umbrellas or needing background paper for an unplanned shoot. Calagaz prides themselves on having been open for 50+ years, but it's not that hard to stay open when you have no competition to speak of. 95% of the times I have shopped there, I've been helped by one of a crew of young women, who all seem haughty and completely disinterested in being of any assistance. It's almost as if you are offending them simply by asking them to do their job. I would never shop there if it weren't for the times when I need paper or film and can't wait for an online order to arrive. It's unfortunate that we don't have a photography supply store in Mobile that is actually capable of providing friendly service to their customers. But, I suppose that when you have a monopoly on the business, you can afford to treat your customers like dirt. read more

I called up Calagaz to order a new Nikon Camera. At first they were very friendly and eager to help. I spoke with a gentlemen in sales named Jason, who promised he would put aside a camera for me. He told me to go ahead and place my order via the website and he would take care of me. I then logged onto their site, http://www.calagaz.com, and tried to place the order. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the option to add the camera to the cart, and something seemed off. So, I called the shop back to speak with Jason. He said he would take care of it and call me back. A few minutes later he called me back and said he would get me a camera if I over nighted him a cashiers check. This seemed very odd. I suddenly realized I was being scammed. I told Jason this and he said, "yeah I need the cashiers check if you want the camera." I didn't understand and repeated that I was happy to pay with a credit card but Jason said he needed cash or a cashiers check or he wouldn't help me. AVOID CALAGAZ. THEY ARE SCAMMERS WHO WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF! read more
