When I went in for my results, the doctor's assistant didn't even know I had already completed the MRI -- she wasn't sure why I was there. I had to explain my back issues all over again, and then she said I needed an X-ray. I told her I came in for my MRI results, and she seemed surprised and asked who referred me. I explained it was the Oxnard office. She then said, "The doctor likes to have both." This left me confused, because my understanding is that an MRI usually provides more than enough detail. On top of that, I had just paid nearly $600 for the MRI. When I asked if my insurance would cover the X-ray, she replied, "They should." My complaint is this: patients need to be informed up front if additional tests are being recommended and whether those tests might require another copay or out-of-pocket costs. It shouldn't just be assumed that insurance will cover it. If the doctor wants both MRI and X-ray, that's fine -- but patients should be given the choice and a clear explanation, especially when significant costs are involved. On top of that, I have been trying to get in touch with the office manager, leaving several voicemails, and still have not received a call back. I think patients should always have the right to seek a second opinion and not just be expected to go along with what one doctor says. Extra tests mean extra money to the office, and we deserve transparency and options before being billed.

But in this case, the "experts" are there for you to visit. Right? Wrong! This group (Ventura Orthopedics) of INCOMPETENT IMBECILES has got to be The Stupidest bunch of people out there, dealing w/ patients today! Unbelievable incompetence! After the agony of suffering tearing EVERYTIHNG POSSIBLE in my knee, I made the mistake of letting Community Memorial Healthcare (Ugh, the worst....) REFER me to a Dr. Mark Ghilarducci. (I lost count whatever JOKE this guy is in this story...), He comes in, does his perfunctory little routine, ending w/ "you're going to require a Full Reconstruction of the Right Knee....and we'll get you started on PT, and you'll f/u w/ me in a month or two!" My wife and I leave, thinking this guy's got it goin' on, and maybe we can stick w/ these guys? Nope. After scheduling two months worth of PT, the very next day one of their staff calls telling me that they no longer accept my insurance! Typical. America the "GRATE" sucks too. So I have to go back to my PCP. (A child that they gave a certificate to, but has to get an "okay" from anybody else before doing ANYTHING at all!). I have to wait for them to refer me to somebody else. It's all a waiting game. By the time I get another referral to another QUACK, and this idiot is worse than the first one... I could have driven to Tj and back and gotten healed already!!!!! Then V.O. Calls me back, telling me that the clinic doesn't accept my insurance, but Dr. G does, and he would like to continue w/ my treatment. Great. We make an appointment. We keep the appointment . Only to be told, by the Dr. himself, that they are no longer going to see/treat me, due to the insurance mess! Those of you who are dumb enough to even call this place, don't say you weren't warned. Ventura Orthopedics places PROFIT over people daily.

We went in on their Saturday hours, which are limited, but a blessing to bot have to take time off work. They do have a smaller staff available on Saturday, so the wait to see various personnel took some extra time. After filing out personal and medical history on a tablet (with a rather clunky interface), I was sent up to the second floor. There, in due course, x-rays were taken by a friendly, experienced tech. Then a waiting period in an exam room ensued with DH and I making small talk about having health challenges during the holidays. He's been to the main practice to see an ankle specialist in the past. That's how he knew about the urgent care part of the practice. When the doctor came in, she was very upbeat. She reported the good news that I don't have arthritis in the knee. She then did a physical exam on the swollen, tender joint. She said that an MRI would be the next step, along with physical therapy. She gave a thumbs up to the copper-infused compression sleeve that I'd ordered online. Compression, icing, and limited heating, plus a new type of anti-inflammatory were all recommendations she made. It took several days for the MRI referral to come through / approval from insurance. The practice kept me informed with texts, which I appreciate. After the MRI I will go back for a full diagnostic update. So far I've been pleased with the care and communication / follow up with this practice.
