In 2019, I had my right hip replaced with Dr. Calderone. I am now more than one year past surgery and it is fantastic. No more constant pain. Dr Calderone in the entire staff have done an excellent job. In fact, he was so good that when I had to have my left hip replaced I went back to him. I am now two months post surgery on my left hip and, once again, the results are amazing. I highly recommend Dr Calderone as a surgeon. read more

We have had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Calderone's office in Camarillo. Dr. Calderone himself may be a perfectly capable orthopedic doctor, but unfortunately, the overall experience with his office has made us decide not to return. The biggest issue is the staff. Whenever we need paperwork, medical records, a referral, or really any type of request, we are made to feel as though we are bothering them. There seems to be very little urgency or concern, and it routinely takes days just to get a response. The office experience isn't much better. Every time we have had an appointment, we have waited at least an hour in a small, uncomfortable waiting room with the television blasting soap operas or other programming at a volume that makes an already unpleasant wait even worse. Even more surprising for an orthopedic practice, the restroom is not conveniently located inside the office. Patients have to go out the door and down an outdoor hallway to use it. Many of the people coming to an orthopedist are dealing with broken bones, serious injuries, pain, walkers, crutches, or limited mobility. You would expect an orthopedic office to be designed with those patients in mind. Our biggest concern, though, is simply the overall lack of care and compassion we have felt from the office staff. When people are dealing with injuries and pain, a little kindness, responsiveness, and understanding go a long way. Dr. Calderone may be a good doctor, but in our experience, he needs a more caring and responsive staff and an office environment that better accommodates orthopedic patients. Unfortunately, based on our experiences, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this office. read more

5 years ago I was unable to walk with sciatica.......my original orthopedic surgeon was subsequently relieved of duty when he told me, "You cannot be in that much pain." My nurse at St. John's, Kat, got me hooked up with Dr. Calderone. Surgery was flawless, and I was able to walk the next day. Cannot say enough about how he helped me. read more

Well I now have two new knees and I could not be happier. Dr. Calderon is the best. He knows exactly what to do for each person and what will work best. I had my first knee done last year and my second knee done in November I'm back to walking over 15,000 steps a day without pain. Dr Calderon is caring, compassionate, and will help you get back to being the best you can be if you put in the work. One thing that I truly love is that he did not use the robot because when you use the robot you have to drill extra holes. I am grateful that he did it the old-school way, and honestly I've healed way better than everyone. I know that has had the same surgery with the robot or even without. August 2020 mid-covid my left ring finger was broken and twisted in an accident. The surgeon said he would take care of me, and that it would correct my hand 100% with surgery, with stiffness being the most likely side effect. My ring finger was not set straight. It now collides with my pinky. The joint will neither open nor close correctly. I can no longer play guitar well (omg) and had to relearn to type for my living. I wish I could post pictures here for you to see. My last appointment I went in to vent my concerns with the doctor to ask about fixing it, they charged me, and send it to collections when I refused to pay the $201.00 visit on principle. I called Linda at the billing office on 6/8/22, and she stated that she could not just cancel the billing. I was forced to pay the collection agency to have them try to put a "deletion" on my credit report to purchase a home. My life has changed permanently with no options due to my choice to seek treatment there. read more

They are only open 13 hours per week. They only answer the phone before 12pm. They are only open two mornings per week. So this office is very difficult to communicate with. I don't understand the short hours. Maybe he is partially retired. Would recommend finding a different Dr. with normal business hours and save yourself the frustration. read more

Dr Calderone was amazing and helped me with my broken foot. I was scared I needed surgery and he assured me that it would heal just as good without surgery. That was a relief!! So far he is correct pain is subsiding and I'm getting back to normal, even able to hike again. So thankful he gave me great instructions while healing on the do's and dont's!! Don't waste or health time and money on this horrible office. It takes months to get in. Once you're there the ladies are rude the Dr pretends to examine you. He does not submit Vidal documents. Dr. Calderone has been my orthopedic physician for over 25 years. My first appointments in my early 40's, were dealing with management of a neck injury involving herniated discs and nerve impingement, where I healed naturally. Over the years he has treated me for muscle strains, bursitis, and arthritis related complaints. More recently he performed surgery on my (dominant hand) right wrist after an accident. He was able to place a plate with screws, and do corrective surgery for carpal tunnel, as well as refine a previous thumb artho-plastic surgery. I was left with significantly improved strength and mobility from my pre-accident state. I have a hand intensive profession, and was able to return to part-time work, after being disabled for over 5 years. He is now treating me for a compression fracture of a vertebra, and age related degeneration (neither work related) . We are utilizing conservative methodology with a brace and exercises. I am healing naturally and preparing to return to work while he monitors my progress. When my mother fell and suffered a compound fracture of the her right wrist (dominant hand) with the bone protruding through skin, Dr. Calderone was the emergency surgeon on call, and performed surgery at 11:00 p.m. My mother, who was an artist, and over 70 years old at the time, regained over 90% mobility. I read x-rays in my profession, and was impressed to see the even fluidity of the mending of the bones with no visual discrepancy at the break line. Beautiful results! So, in summary, I would tell a friend that Dr. Calderone is conservative in his approach to a problem, but if surgery is needed, his skills are exceptional. He is professional and concise. He has a warm and efficient staff. I would not hesitate to recommend his office. read more

I don't usually say bad things about Dr.s but today takes the cake. I came here when I broke my ankle May 1 for Dr Ballard not knowing he retired. I stayed even though Dr Calderone wouldn't do my surgery until May 15 and I was in horrible pain, what choice did I have at that point. Broke my fibula on the right and a few metatarsal bones in the left foot so it was difficult to get around needless to say. Surgery went well but the after care OMG!!! It seems like they book appointments every 15 minutes and then make you wait for an hour. This is my 2nd follow up and they made me pay because they are too busy to get you in in the time frame for the insurance. What a disappointment to come to this office after my last experience with Dr Ballard. Maybe they should be more into patient care and not into bearding ya through for money. read more

In 2011, I slipped on a rug at home and fell backwards against a wall, My back pain was still getting worse after a week. Because he had done such a great job with my mother's knee replacements, I went to see Dr. Ballard ... but he referred me to Dr. Calderone in the same office. I explained what had happened, filled out the charts to show pain in my upper back and they took an x-ray ... Dr. Calderone assured me nothing was broken, prescribed pain killers and said he'd see me in a month. My pain got worse. I saw my regular doctor, who ordered an MRI and called to tell me I had 2 crushed vertebra in my upper back. Turns out Dr. Calderone had mis-diagnosed me ... he'd x-rayed my LOWER back! By this time, bones had started to fuse so there was nothing to do but live with the pain, which I have now for 8 years. My advice, find a more thorough doctor ... IMHO, this guy runs a slip-and-fall "mill." read more

Dr. Calderone is an excellent doctor who has the WORST office staff I have ever experienced (and I am not a spring chicken!). I've never been able to get ANYTHING out of his office with less than 5 phone calls. Doesn't matter what it is....Rx for meds, Rx for PT. The morning of my surgery, his "assistant" still had not submitted my Rx for pain meds! Sad really cause he's very good but unfortunately you have to interface way more with the staff than the actual doctor. He needs to do himself a favor and fire them all and start over. read more

I read the reviews here before going to see Dr. Calderone , iI thought this is great I like the sounds of this doctor. Sadly I am greatly disappointed. I've seen him twice. He took a phone call during the first visit. Second visit very short and he told me I needed MRI and x-rays. I waited two weeks then I called his office, his assistant said the could order direct from there but that there was no mention of the tests in my file. She stated she would check with him and order them. after 10 days I called and left a message on her voicemail a week ago. To date, no response and I'm in pain. read more

After an x-ray of my back I waited 45 minutes while the doctor was chatting with another patient. I had to leave. Rescheduled, and all he offered was an operation without discussing alternatives. I've been a patient of Dr. Calderone since 2007 In that time, he has successfully replaced both hips, my left knee and am currently waiting for the insurance authorization to do the right knee on March 22, 2012. There is no other Dr. I would want doing this as well as my prior procedures. Dr. Calderone takes the time to go over every aspect of a treatment plan. He never rushes you, and has an awesome bedside manner. I always know that once my procedure is completed, he will call my family back east letting them know I'm fine. It Might seem like a small thing, But Believe me, my family is always so grateful that he takes the time to do this for them. I have recommended Dr. Calderone to anyone I know that is in need of Orthopedic help. He is by far the best surgeon I have ever had, or could possibly hope to have. I was very lucky in finding him, and anyone that takes the time to contact him will be almost guaranteed to have the same feeling. At this time, I would also like to comment on the office staff who make his practice what it is today, Kelly, his surgery scheduler is a pleasant person to talk to and deal with. She knows all the ins and outs of dealing with the various Insurance companies, and always makes it a point to keep the patient appraised of where they are in the process. Mary, Who is the Doctors Nurse is always pleasant to deal with and always has a smile on her face no matter how busy she is. She always makes it a point to ask how I am doing, and also tells me about things she has done recently. This doctor has zero bedside manner. I met him once in his office and after that I dealt with Rosa, his nurse who was great about explaining the process of getting surgery done. I never saw.the doctor again until the day of suegery.I had surgery on 3/5/18. He was 30 minutes late to do surgery, NO explanation from him.The staff was not happy he was late and they had to call him to find out where he was. When he arrived, he did not even address me by name. He acted like he was agitated, and in a big hurry and like I was an annoyance. He explained nothing to me, just asked if I had any questions. He flipped through my paperwork and left tongonget ready for surgery. He gave me no crutches. I was handed a paper with what I might experience after surgery. It was very generic, none of the boxes were marked as to which instructions I should follow. He never even met with my husband after surgery to tell him how it went. I asked him to fill out a form for my employer and all he did was sign it, never filled it out. It has been horrible trying to be mobile with no crutches. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of respect care and concern this doctor has shown me. We shall see how my follow up visit goes. I doubt he will be anymore helpful than he has been. I guess I better have all my questions ready for him because it is obvious he doesn't offer any information, the patient has to do his job for him. read more

We changed doctors because of the colossal incompetence of his staff. Dr Calderone was fast but listens. But his staff is an altogether different matter. We went to his office months back. He ordered injection and xray. The staff took at least a week to get the auth started then after add weeks of follow up told us it was denied because we did not have xray (which they insist needed approval)- yet they did not submit it for approval until after the procedure was denied. After some more follow up- injection is available- but we need to go to Bakersfield to pick it up. When I commented, that's highly irregular- staff told me they'll check then after months of waiting said okay it's in the office and we can set up appointment. Only to be told day prior to appointment that the auth has expired. Nobody seem to know what to do or care about the patients and the delay in service. Everytime you call them, it's like they just heard of your concern for the first time. And as mentioned in another post here- we have to deal with the staff more than we do the doctor and his staff makes it not worth going back. read more

Excellent surgeon and a really nice guy! My elderly mother fell and broke her right wrist and Dr. Calderone's office was able to get her an appointment within 36 hours of her being released from the ER. Then Dr. Calderone's amazing nurse, Rosa, got her scheduled for surgery 48 hours after that. Dr. Calderone performed the surgery then met with me and provided details and instructions for after-care. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the Dr. ran a little late, but I believe it is because he is taking quality time with his patients and that is more important to me and my mother, than being perfectly punctual. 2 weeks after surgery, Dr. Calderone took another x-ray and determined she was healing well, he explained the x-rays, how to rehab the wrist, provided a physical therapy regime and asked to see her again in 6 weeks. Overall, my mother received great care from Dr. Calderone and his very helpful and friendly staff. read more
