I went in to have a Movado watch changed to another band that had to be resized as well. I don't think I waited more than five minutes, and both the service technician and salesperson that helped me were very personable. I would like to share the positive and negative aspects of my experience with Calhoun's Jewelers. As a reference, I'm getting married this year, and my fiance purchased my engagement ring and wedding band from Eden Garden Jewelry, where we had an exceptional experience. My fiance and I visited Calhoun's Jewelers to purchase his wedding ring and to have my ring set resized and soldered together. We were assisted by Deb, who was wonderful throughout the process. My fiance ordered a tungsten ring, which arrived promptly and was perfectly sized to fit his finger. I needed my rings resized down by half a size and soldered together. My fiance had paid extra to have an engraving on the inside of my engagement ring, which read "Forever yours." The engraving was clear and easily readable due to the font size. Deb made several comments about the engraving and noted it down on the order form for them to be mindful of it. When I went to pick up my rings for the first time, they were beautifully soldered together. However, the engraving was missing entirely. A different staff member assisted me during the visit and seemed skeptical when I asked about it until I showed her a picture of the original engraving. She consulted with the jeweler, who informed me it would take another week to rectify the issue, as they needed to take the rings apart, engrave them, and then solder them back together. The rings were ready the next day, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the engraving was crooked, misplaced, and too small to read without a magnifying glass. While I expected some wear on the engraving due to the soldering process, I anticipated that the engraving would be restored to its original state. Instead, there was a lack of communication, and the engraving was not redone as expected. The final result left me disappointed and saddened, especially when I look at the ring now. In summary, I would strongly advise against bringing an engraved ring to Calhoun's Jewelers or requesting any meaningful engraving on your jewelry. While the men's rings are satisfactory (hence the 2 stars) and the staff is generally helpful, the engraving service was extremely poor. read more

This was my first time to shop at Calhoun's jewelry store. My whole experience was wonderful. The young man that helped me design my ring was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and patient. With his help we designed a ring using an old ring of mine and a beautiful sapphire ring that my mother left me. I can't wait to see the finished product. It will be passed down to my granddaughter. She will have a beautiful custom made piece from her great grandmother and her grandmother. I can't say enough about how helpful and friendly all of the staff was. There was also a young lady that helped us. She had a beautiful chain on that I ended up buying one just like it. Last but not least their pricing is very fair especially for what you get. read more

I have been using Calhoun Jewelers since I moved back to my hometown in 2011. Every watch that I own, which is more than a dozen, has a free replacement battery in it. The only reason that I have not been to the store since early 2021, is because I am wheelchair bound and spend all of my day in this wheelchair. It takes a medical van to transport me anywhere that I go. The folks there are very simply the best, as Tina would say. BTW as a young teenager I was able to see Ike and Tina at the Theatre across from the Topeka Municipal Building. Topeka officials forced them to close, and the theater was demolished. I have a watch that is a mix between funky and classic. Recently, the band wore out, along with the battery. I went to a mega retailer to get a new watch band and the battery changed, but they refused to do it because I had not purchased my watch there. However, the salesperson there told me that Calhoun's did watch batteries. I was greeted promptly by the watch person and a saleswoman. Both of them came over to introduce themselves, shook my hand and assisted me. The watch person was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He worked on it right away and did a phenomenal job. Although I live in South Carolina, I chose to take my wedding ring, and another important ring, to Calhoun's because my mom had had some rings worked on there. After talking to Lindsey at Calhoun's a few weeks before my trip to see family in Kansas, she assured me they could make all of the repairs needed to my ring within the short time I was visiting. My 22 year old wedding set was sized, reshanked, and had 8 new prongs replaced....all within 3 days! When I went to pick up my ring, in my opinion, the rings had been made too think and did not fit together well. Calhoun's immediately gave me their full attention and offered to fix the ring within the hour. They called within an hour and my ring looked incredible! My only disappointment was that I was told my ring would receive a written value as well, but when I picked it up, I was told by the actual jeweler that values were only given when a customer pays an $80 fee. This was not explained to me at all, neither by phone nor in person, until I picked up my ring. All is good though as my rings are great and the people were extremely careful with my precious jewelry, and were very kind and helpful. Thanks Calhoun's!!
