Great quilt store! They have a great selection of fabrics, kits, pre-cuts, batiks, and a huge selection of cotton prints. Staff was super friendly. I also found an adorable sewing basket, and some needle minders by the cutting counter. I found a scissor minder there too - never seen one of those before. Since I first reviewed this shop (8 years ago!), many MANY beloved local quilt shops have gone out of businesses - including several of my favorites. So, even though it's a bit off the beaten path, Calico Creations has become a place I can rely on to grab the perfect fabric for my latest project. So I try to stop there when I'm passing near (or through) MV. They carry all of the major designers and latest lines. From modern prints by Tula Pink and Kaffe Fassett to more traditional calicos and Civil War style fabrics, you will find it here. Not to mention they have an extensive collection of solids and blender fabrics, baby fabrics, pattern books and even some pre-cuts (not many, but I'll take it). Not in a sewing mood? Find inspo from their ever-rotating samples adorning their windows and walls. On a budget? They have an impressive (and huge) sale area in the back, where fabric is $10/yard (or lower). My only criticism is their small space. They could easily fill a shop twice the size, and as a result many MANY of their bolts are sitting on the floor. They try to keep it organized, and do a pretty good job, but it bears mentioning you'll need to "file" through bolts on the floor that aren't as easy to view as the ones on the shelves. read more

In 2011 I bought a magazine with instructions for a quilt top I wanted to make. The limited amount of fabric had been bought previously. It wasn't until I made my first visit to Calico Creations, in 2022, that I found the perfect fabric for the border! I can recommend a visit if you are in the upper NW of Washington State! read more

This is by far my favorite quilt shop in the area! Cinda and Krista are just the best, always so helpful. Calico Creations has an outstanding selection/variety of high quality quilting fabric at reasonable prices (quilting cotton is not cheap). They have sales periodically throughout the year and a sale room (that doubles as a classroom) for when you need a quilt back at an affordable price. It's an hour drive for me but absolutely worth it - I drive up here instead of going to Quilting Mayhem, which is closer but is way more expensive and doesn't have nearly the same level of selection. They also sell online and you can pick up or have it mailed to you. read more

I can't say enough about the incredible selection and top notch service at this quilt shop. The selection of high quality, beautiful fabrics is amazing, especially since many fabric stores have a sparse selection right now. The staff member was so helpful when I asked for assistance designing a quilt. She pulled out her phone, used a quilt calculator app and sketched out the dimensions for me to take home. She had such patience at the end of the day and was so knowledgeable. She wore her mask the entire time we were together and it's a very clean and safe shopping experience. I loved shopping at Calico Creations in the past however on my last visit (earlier this week) I walked in to find that none of the staff or owner were wearing masks. They also didn't make attempts to grab any as customers were coming in. Really disappointing. read more

Normally I love shopping at Calico Creations. The store is packed with fabric and they have a huge sale section that can't be beat. Unfortunately, at my last two visits in Oct and Nov 2020, there is an employee (or owner) who wears her mask under her nose. Her nose is continually uncovered, and that is exactly the same as not wearing a mask at all. So, sadly, I can no longer shop here until the pandemic is over. Two Thimbles in Bellingham is a smaller store and 30 minutes farther away, but they are doing a good job with safety these days, so I will be shopping there for awhile. read more

Stopped in for the first time this weekend. Wow! What an amazing selection! There are just things to look at in every nook and cranny. The woman working (owner?) was very helpful. Took the time to help me coordinate fabrics even when other customers walked into the store. As I marveled over her Kaffe Fassett collections, she pronounced the designers name correctly and I didn't even know it! She was too kind to correct me. It wasn't til I got home and checked for myself I realized she was actually correct. I love this store. I get paid once a month and this will definitely be where I go to treat myself. read more

This ranks as one of the best quilt shops I have shopped in and I have been in a ton of them throughout the country during my travels. The fabric selection was extreme in a good way with very up to date quilt samples on the walls. If a traditional or modern or art quilter this shopper what you need to get the quilt done. The amount of sale fabric was a lot but would have liked a bit more discount on some of it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you are in the area definitely put it in your shop in list. Yes,I did buy just the right fabric for a quilt back and I had never seen the fabric before and it was in the sale fabrics which helps when you need enough for a large quilt back. read more

I stopped in the other day and really should have turned right around at the front door. The place was way overcrowded for Covid times and there were multiple people not wearing masks. The staff all had masks on but the lady helping me had hers riding below her nose. I'm disappointed. I think maybe businesses should post on their websites and front doors that they aren't enforcing masks so folks don't need to waste their time. I won't be back. read more

This shop has a pretty good selection, though it's mainly (all?) Moda, and the prices are only slightly more than relatively close-by independent shops (which I'd be willing to overlook, given that it's the only one in Mt Vernon). But the two times I've been in, the woman at the counter has acted majorly put out that I'm there. No pleasantries, no hello, no "what are you making?", no thank yous. She cuts the fabric like she's in a very annoying race. I'll be fabric shopping in Bellingham from now on. read more
