I wish I had read the reviews first. The store policy is to take your money, make you sign a binding contract and then charge you more money ($945) because they provided an incorrect estimate. Then you get to wait months while the fabric that was in stock that is now surprisingly back ordered gets delivered. Finally you get your seat cushions and they are crooked. I can't believe this is place stays in business. I will never set foot in this store again. All of the staff are super friendly and chipper when you talk to them. read more

Calico re-upholstered 2 Bergere chairs for me. I have had the chairs for over 20 years and they really needed some updating. The chairs turned out great and I receive compliments on them whenever I have visitors to my home. Lynn Cain was great to work with and very knowledgeable as a designer. I ordered custom draperies and was told the fabric was in stock so no problem. I get a call while on vacation and was told it indeed was NOT in stock but on back order and wouldn't be available for another two months plus delivery and work room time of approximately four weeks. I may not even have the drapes by Christmas!! This is July now. I called to cancel order and was told I had signed an agreement so couldn't do it!!! I had a chair and ottoman reupholstered about a year ago. This included new padding and arm covers. I admit to spending more than it would have cost to buy a new chair, because this chair had been so comfortable but was starting to look worn. After spending a lot of money, the chair is no longer comfortable, one of the arm covers does not fit correctly, and the height of the ottoman is now higher than the seat cushion which is lower than it was before. The wait time is incredibly long. This service is totally not worth the price! read more

On Monday, March 15, 2021, I decided to check out Calico Corners in the Fair Oaks Trader Joe's shopping center. It was my first time setting foot in the store. As I entered a woman from across the way yelled, "sign in and sanitize please." I gladly complied. Suddenly, I was the only one standing there in the store, there were no other customers. I walked once around the small shiwroom but the three unmasked women, apparently all employees, had already retreated to the rear of the store where they were engaging in, "casual conversation." I got the message loud and clear, and walked out of the store. Apparently my kind (AA) are not welcome at Calico Corners of Fair Oaks. It's a new day with pitiful customer service at Calico... Called to make an appointment and was pre-screened before setting up a time. I wanted to come in and browse fabric, not 100% sure what I wanted for my chair. I was forced to give info I was not sure of. The questions kept coming, do you think you will want curtains or pillows along with your chair, do you think you will want calico to provide any other chairs or bedding in room. I told her one chair I want recovered, not 100% sure of anything else. She said the manager would pull fabric for me to look at so I asked her if I could browse and she said yes. She quoted approx $800 plus fabric. Ok, I figured around that. Get to store for appointment, door locked but person at front desk saw me at the door, Was with a customer and ignored me. I was two minutes early, waiting outside another 5 minutes past my appointment, totally ignored. Ahh..okay, bye.. For me, I was over- pre-screened on the phone. My piddly $1,000 chair didn't cut it for them, hence for sure leave her at the door past her appointment time and ignore her. They can say they pre-screen so they can better help but it felt like a fishing expedition. Maybe I should have said I'd spend $5,000 instead of $1,000. Maybe that would have at least resulted in a head nod From the lady at the front desk while I waited outside. Things have drastically changed due to virus but Calico please rethink your customer service skills. Install an intercom or something so people waiting outside know they have been recognized and you will be there as soon as you can. fabric took 8 weeks to receive, then back ordered. Roman shades cut wrong and left a gap in window . Lengths were wrong- 6" too long. poor service as they try to justify reasons. They would make it right, but it was a tug of war . I'm a 25-year purchasing customer and this has been a nightmare experience. much more transpired and misinformation provided. they are more worried about their cost to correct than really providing 100% satisfaction as they say they guarantee-- far from it. I've never been so disappointed and pissed. now I'm out $1500 and without Any shades for another 4-5 weeks And can only hope they get it right. i would rather use allied upholstery , Sacramento, now as Lori has amazing fabric selections and does beautiful work. also many places on line that are priced competitively and do nice work . read more

We bought drapes here on March 12th, today, May 8th, they were installed. We were told 7-8 weeks, so right on time. Our experience was wonderful, from start to finish. Our drapes are beautiful and appear to be very high quality. Casey, the measurer and installer, is punctual and professional. The drapes were costly, but, you get what you pay for. read more

I ordered a custom made chair in January it arrived in mid September with a broken leg- the carrier advised that we not sit in it or accept it- and we did not. When I called Calico Corners the manager said we should have accepted it and went on to chide me for doing so. Never did she say they were sorry for the inconvenience nor did they take responsibility. I called the 800 number to complain and they said the local office would call me- but its been a week and no calls. read more

Wanting to take advantage of a sale, I recently purchased Hunter Douglas Powerview shades for two rooms in my home. The sales women were eager to make the sale and were full of promises; including that it would only be a couple of weeks from purchase to install, that the installation would be done by someone from Hunter Douglas (we had problems with Powerview shades we had purchased from another company and wanted to be sure that any problems could be dealt with immediately), and that the $125 measuring fee would be credited to our final payment. The reality was different than the promises. It was a month before the shades were installed, and although I had supplied the saleswoman with all the details and numbers/codes on the shades we already had, the shades that arrived were a cheaper quality than what I thought I had ordered, although the sale price was very similar to the better quality shades I had purchased from another dealer. That could be attributed to misunderstanding (and I am unable to prove what I information I had supplied), but given the other issues I am disinclined to give Calico Corners the benefit of the doubt. Our installer, who is a very nice and competent person informed us that he is a general installer, and while he has been trained on basic programming of Powerview Shades, he has no knowledge of setting up programs for automation, so we were on our own - despite repeated assurances that our installer would be an expert from Hunter Douglas. Lastly, when we were charged for the final payment after installment, the measurement fee had not been credited, necessitating action on my part to get the credit that had been promised. Calico Corners should bear the responsibility of assuring that I am charged accurately. It shouldn't be necessary for the customer to catch the error and act to rectify it. Apart from the shades, I also purchased fabric to cover 10 dining room chairs. The order went smoothly, the fabric arrived in a timely manner, and I was happy with the quality. All-in-all, Calico has a nice selection of fabric, but I feel their sales are of questionable savings and the sales people will tell you what you want to hear. read more

Two years ago I purchased over $4,000 in hunter douglas blinds for my home. Due to ordering errors by calico corners, they have never been done correctly. The store has had to re- order blinds several times. Not because the blinds were defective but the pulls were on the wrong side and/or one would be rolling in one direction while the other blind rolls in another direction. The store still has not fixed all of them! They promised to re-order it but now they are no longer returning my phone calls. I suggest they get out of the business of selling blinds. read more

Arrived at Calico today not knowing an appointment was required. Door were locked and someone came to the door asking if I had an appointment. When I said I did not realize I needed one, the woman at the door said she would see if a designer was available. When the woman at the door approached the designer, the designer went onto say how busy she was but would allow me to come in. I was then told that I couldn't just look around at the fabric because I could not touch anything. I said I did not want to touch fabric, just look for a project I was working on for my home. At that point I decided to leave because of the attitude of designer and other staff member. I know it is a very difficult time for a small business, but there is no excuse for making a potential customer feel unwelcome. I wont shop there again. read more

Wish I could say something more positive, because it is my nature to see the silver lining, but my experience was similar to other reviews as well. I was so excited to go here and check out fabric. Walked around for ~20 minutes without being acknowledged at all. I realized I was not going to let this store steal my joy and found a SA in the register area doing something on the computer. I asked her for help and she did for a bit then went to check for something and she was MIA for 5-10 minutes. I find her up by the registers again. She apologized and was sweet though. If I would have not sought out help, I don't think I ever would have been helped. Really sad! I have a great eye for style, fashion and design - and was coming for their great reputation and selection I had remembered being a young girl shopping with my mom for fabric. I was able to order 4 samples that will be mailed to my home. Something told me to check their website to see if there was a big selection there once I got home. There is! Even though the work is still in progress, I want to compliment Kathy and her outstanding expertise and professionalism as she guided me through the entire procedure: help with choosing the right fabrics to reupholster my sofas, a large sectional plus sofa-bed and love seat combination, and complete detailed explanations about the reupholstery work involved with these particular sofas. Furthermore, during a second meeting with her, she was of great help choosing the perfect decorative pillows to compliment the particular fabrics chosen for the sofas. I've had the most wonderful experience with Calico Corners in Fair Oaks, CA. Mari is an outstanding manager and sets a great example for her staff who have been lovely and courteous. The customer service has been unparalleled so I'm not sure why anyone would be disappointed. I was fortunate to enter without an appointment and Mari finished up with checking out a customer so that Lynn Cain would be free to assist me. After several visits and lots of great suggestions from Lynn, I have had a loveseat recovered, a custom chair created, decorator pillows for both, and three rooms treated with Hunter-Douglas blinds. Everything has exceeded my expectations! I have felt like a family member every single time I've entered the store or been called by the staff to let me know my product was ready for pickup. Until recently, I was a long standing customer of Calico Corner. In 2005 I ordered custom bedding for my daughter at around $1,600.00 - this was a special project and the staff then were well trained and had a solid knowledge in design. The customer service was excellent. The staff were very engaged and researched other complementary choices for my project. Because of my previous positive experienced, I returned for a larger interior designing projects that included upholstering all of my upscale furniture pieces - some antique pieces. The staff completely ignored me until I asked for assistance to look up fabrics. The staff's attitude change once they look up my information. Initially, I felt measured by my appearance as I wearing my weekend scrubs. I did ordered samples and eventually made a large purchase of several yards of fabric at a later date. however, I pretty much was on my own looking up several fabric books samples. The staff were so disengaged and uninterested. Calico is the type of business you expect high-end customer service, their price point certainly reflects that. Going forward: I ended up making the rest of my upholstery needs purchases on line, over $3,000.00 worth silk velvet and other complimentary fabrics. I also contracted a local upholstery business to do the labor. It is fun to have a place like Calico where you can, theoretically, get help with your project, select the right fabrics and get your work fabricated. They no longer provide that level of service. Calico Corner must employ staff who are excited about making people's dream come true through design and the transformation of spaces. Staff must be well educated and have a solid understanding of design. Most importantly, treat all customers with regard by avoiding any prejudice. I have purchased material and used services from Calico Corners on quite a few occasions. This review is simply for this last purchase from them in September. The woman who waited on me was both pleasant and knowledgeable, however that is the begging and end of anything positive about her. She was easily distracted with idle and un-necessary conversation and other things going on in the store. She would excuse her self to wait on a another customer or answer the phone, gone as long as 20 minutes most times. I ordered the product and paid the deposit. Over the next 8 weeks the service was not acceptable. No return phone calls, no follow up on questions and lost documents that had to be completed again. After product received there was an issue with one of the shams. Again no return phone calls, no follow up. I finally called and spoke with a manager. She was extremely pleasant and apologized sincerely for the sales associates deficiencies. She solved the problem. It's unfortunate the service is so bleak because they have great material, etc. There services and material are very expensive raising the bar on customer expectation around customer service. We had a 20+ year old leather couch and loveseat with good bones. Still a sturdy frame. Decided to reupholster. Worked with Shelly at the Fair Oaks location. She was great! We picked out our fabric, took home samples, ordered, and then our pieces were picked up, completed and delivered. We couldn't be happier. The end products were even better than we could have imagined. No one can believe this is the same set. Shelly and her team are great. The timeline was as promised, with updates along the way. We went to Calico Corner to buy fabric for curtains, cushions and pillows for our breakfast nook. The store was packed with beautiful fabrics. We selected four fabrics and Calico guided us on the quantity. We ended up with way too much fabric in three rolls. The forth roll did not arrive and instead we received two rolls of fabric we had not ordered. I drove the two rolls back and found the missing fabric in the store and ordered it. We are now waiting for that to be delivered. We had no experience in buying fabrics but we brought the measurements for the bench with us and we discussed our ideas with Calico Corner. We relied on the advice from them on how much fabric we would need for our project. Our recommendation is to get a seamstress or a friend who sews to guide you on what you need, if you do not have the expertise yourself. That would have saved us quite a bit of money. And we would not have had yards of fabric left over. read more

I placed an order for one custom Roman shade in March. Turn around time was 6 to 8 weeks. June 27 still no shade. I went in to the store to see what was happening. I gave them my name and the woman helping me came back with my shade. Meanwhile the woman, the manager, who initially helped me place my order saw me heard I was asking for my shade. She left to the back and stayed there when I got my shade. The sales person helping said I was called but a message could not be left. The had my correct cell phone number. I asked how many times did they try calling me, but she did not know. I also asked "well do you have my address, where a letter could have been mailed?" She said yes but no answer as to why they didn't. But the most important thing is that they had already charged my credit card for the remaining balance when the shade arrived a month ago!! I will never go back there again! This was my 3rd order with them. I'm very disappointed that the manager went to hide instead of apologizing for forgetting about me and my product. I'm hoping this had nothing to do with the fact that I am not a middle aged white woman who is their typical clientele. read more

I have been to this location several times for multiple reasons, (school, personal, and professional). As a 20-something, I can't help but call the staff a bunch of ageists. I have never been helped by the staffs own free will. The one time I did get assistance, it was after nearly an hour of walking around the store and eventually camping at the counter for nearly fifteen minutes. Their fabric is beautiful and reasonable compaired to some of the other custom workrooms and the design center in San Francisco, however their workroom prices are a bit high. read more

I submitted a five-star review two or three months ago and it was posted. It is gone now. Why is that? I have re-posted it below: My visit to Calico Corners in Fair Oaks was fantastic! I had seen on their web site that it was possible to make appointments, so I made one with Peggy. We arrived almost a half hour early and while Peggy was finishing up with another customer, we enjoyed looking at the beautiful and endless selection of fabrics in the store. As we browsed, no fewer than three other sales associates offered to help us, one telling us they had the exact fabric as the small fabric swatch we had with us of our furniture at home that we were trying to compliment with valence fabric. Another sales associate offered us bottled water. Peggy was available right on time and pulled their large sample of our furniture upholstery so we could use it to compare to fabrics we were considering for purchase. I fell in love with the first selection she pulled, but we continued looking through many more as she brought them out. We narrowed our selection down to three which Peggy suggested we take home, look at in the light of our house and decide there. We were very glad we did that; the fabrics looked completely different at home, especially as the light of day turned into evening. We ended up purchasing fabric of the first sample Peggy had pulled. When we returned to give back the samples and order our fabric, Peggy gave us outstanding service that only someone experienced could have given. I had a general idea of how I wanted to make the valances and she made several helpful selections that made the construction easier and the final product look nicer. She also helped us select the trim. I really did not think there were stores any more where a person could get exceptional service like this! And added to that, it was about a month after I purchased the fabric before I got around to sewing the valances and I hadn't taken adequate notes when Peggy gave me her much appreciated advice. I called her and asked if I could come in and have her explain it again to me, but she remembered me and the fabric I had ordered and was able to explain it over the phone, saving me an hour drive each way. Beautiful store, beautiful fabric. Found what I wanted right away. I was ready to order and pay then stood at the register for 6 minutes while the sales clerk chatted away about personal matters with someone taking a sample home. No, "excuse me I'll be with you in a second". I've worked in retail so I know how customers are supposed to be treated. I placed the items on the counter walked towards the door and commented on that their customer service sucked. The sales clerk had the nerve to say, "was anyone helping you?". This after I had stood at the counter listening to her chatting away. read more

I ordered a tablecloth, for which I was charged $360. I paid, thinking that I cannot find that material anywhere else. After 10 weeks nobody called me, so when I called I was told that the product arrived and that they left a message, which I did not get. The actual look of the product was very poor and sloppy, nowhere similar with what I had in mind or what we agreed on when the order was placed. They even promised that they will give me the reminder of the material, so that if I want to use it later for something else, I can do that. Because it was not there with the product, I asked to talk with the manager. I was given a business card, so when I called someone else answered and mentioned that the manager will call me right back. That did not happen, so the problem is not solved yet. read more

I bought hardware for all of the windows in my large home and also purchased installation. I paid $1000 for installation, thinking I would pay in order to save my husband a lot of grief, and get it done right the easy way. For $1000, the installer put in about 3 hours of work and went home. I realized later that he was not measuring and the rods are not straight. (This from a professional installer.) So my curtains hang funny. Also, he actually left my home without filling in with spackle and painting the holes he left in my walls. I had the installer return to make some fixes in one room, but did not realize at the time that the problem was throughout my home. I recommend against using this store's "professional" installer. read more

I have ordered several window treatments from Calico and their customer service is either great or terrible, you never know which you are going to get. First of all, Kendahl is the only sales associate with any brains on how to treat a customer and how to deliver good service. The rest of the group might as well work at McDonalds, especially the manager Maureen or whatever her name is. These people try to sell custom window treatments that cost thousands of dollars while providing low end service. And they wonder why people don't go back? With so much competition, you would think that they might get a clue and realiize that the way to win a customer for repeat sales is to treat them kindly, professionally, and to go above and beyond basic service. We all could pay a lot less going online, but when we don't we expect top of the line service. You will not get this. So, go ahead and order if you don't care because you really need their measuring and color/style advice. And yes, their installation service is a joke due to the prices they charge, which is based on a per foot price, which makes no sense since it is about the same work to install a 4 foot curtain rod as a 6 foot rod . . . . They wanted about $1,000 to install 3 window treatments. Right. read more

Since I cannot select have of a star, I will have to select one star. This is my second purchase with Calico Corners on Fair Oaks. I have had nothing but problems with this store. The individual that I worked with had to rewrite the work order several times which required me to return to the store to sign a new contract in addition to an increase in the price of the contract. When the order was finally completed, we received a phone call while on our honeymoon. Without seeing the product, we were charged for the remaining 50% balance...TWICE! We contacted our credit card company that we had two transactions. One was done at 4:23 and the other at 4:50....someone in the store did not obviously communicate this. Credit card company could not reverse this change until Calico Corners called them. Calico Corners claimed they didn't charge us twice...but how could that be possible?! The charge was eventually reversed a few days later. When we believed this was all finished and we were ready to have the install completed, we received a call that there was still an outstanding balance for 50% of the increase due to the rewritten contract that was due to an error when the original contract was put into the system. With the amount of money that is spent at this store, you would THINK that we will have better customer service. read more
